nlike many in Galini who came from the Golden Providence, Amethyst was born in Neptune's Deep. It was because of this that she was cursed with eyes as silver as the mist that laid against the waves. She was raised to believe she was unloved by Galene. She was less than the others. She wasn’t good enough. People like them were shunned by other Thalassans and nothing was going to change that.


Onyx, her father, stood by his words until his death by an unknown sickness when Amethyst was 15. His passing prompted Sapphire to find Galini and give her daughter the opportunity to have something better than what they had. It was then that she learned that his hatred was unwarranted. His stories weren’t true. They were just as loved by Galene. They were just…different. His hatred had stemmed from his parents judging him for being with a woman with Sikken eyes. He loved Sapphire, of course, but he hoped that his stories would deter his daughter from facing a similar fate. He figured that if she were already scared, then the unkind words of others wouldn’t hurt her.

Months later, Amethyst and her mother arrived in Galini. In hopes of further protecting her daughter, Sapphire believed that if the living weren’t going to be as accepting of them, then perhaps the dead would be. She would later get a job tending to the cemetery and presiding funeral processions, eventually teaching her daughter to do the same. Upon her death three years later, Amethyst took her place as the village’s funeral director.

"Well, I'm not the biggest fan of them. I don't exactly hate them, but I was raised to believe that they only exist to terrorize us. I know now that it doesn't quite work like that. However, I'd much rather scare one off or annoy them rather than become their friend. It's not like I'm intending to hurt them, but don't get mad if they come home with a few little scratches."
