೫  summary。 TWs: Mild Violence, Death | Under very minor revision

Being the son of an aristocrat-serving artisan and a scholar’s maid—though not much to be particularly proud of—somehow became enough leverage for fate to intervene and give Gyeoru a brighter and steadfast future. A mountain’s peak, however, cannot be shared – upon reaching the crest, one is bound to keep it or be pushed to topple over. The latter happened to Gyeoru, but with all that is left of his honor and valor, he shall tread the mountain again.

Chapter One: The Life

F

or a son to be born from a couple who recently sent their daughter to wed was worth a humble celebration. The first part of it being bestowing him a name that will set the tides for him: Gyeoru, to compete in life without losing. Secondly, to wish him good health above all else. He did grow up vigorous no doubt. His father would often liken him to the countless sculptures he had crafted.

“Father, don’t your calluses hurt?” The meek Gyeoru asked, words laced with concern and curiosity.

The patriarch of their household gave him a warm smile and held out his hand, “Why don’t you feel them for yourself, my son – to know why they don’t hurt.”

Calluses do not hurt for they appear to adapt to what one is fond of doing. In his father’s case, it was carving intricate details on wood. These handiworks were considerably impeccable, for they sold not only as coins for staple food but also for luxuries people from their status do not regularly enjoy – for some, still untouchable until their departure.

“They do not hurt because these calluses are for you,” Gyeoru’s father clasped his hands together and then enveloped it with his, the bumps despite feeling rough against his skin felt guarding.

“I do not mind getting them if it means you will be able to live the life of your dreams the more they form. You are my son, the greatest sculpture these calloused hands could ever form.”

Thirdly was what has been exhibited – to grow curious but not prying; to be questioning but not hostile. Gentleness was taught by his mother, a maid for a meticulous scholar who desires everything to be kept in place at all times, his chambers spotless. Gyeoru grew in a home where that orderliness was valued and maintained. Although his mother was not always present, her few but candid words always echoed.

“What you present to the outside is what you should also be on the inside. If you wish to appear presentable to strangers, you must remember to appear presentable to us first – to me, the most.” The matriarch had always been very articulate, perhaps due to her livelihood or simply because she was innately smart but how things work, she will always be a cog that can never fit. Thus, she wants her son to be the vessel of her wisdom.

“I understand, mother.” The woman smiles, unmasking herself to the only person who was allowed to see her mellow core. She gives him a soft kiss on the forehead and sends him off to fulfill his chores.

Although unbeknownst to him, having these wishes fulfilled, Gyeoru, throughout his childhood, can be mistaken for a noble. Nevertheless, he was born to taxpayers, and the only way to live such a life was to hold the best wishes closely, for the gusts of wind by the edge are much more violent – all might be blown away.

Chapter Two: The Competition

I

f not to follow his father’s footsteps, Gyeoru does not really have a volition but to try and serve the kingdom as a knight. Still, if one is deemed unworthy they will not have such a title and are to be dishonorably sent back home.

It is not a case wherein Gyeoru deems his father’s work humiliating, it was honest work and his father’s craft is worth all the pride he could muster, but both of his parents wanted him to succeed in something that they did not decide for him.

The fervent young man, still in the process of flourishing at age 16 was drafted and qualified to train. Considering his status, however, he was not trained to be a knight at the very beginning. He was merely a helper, alongside the others who in the future, gave up and chose to follow the laborer path instead.

The situation remained like that until Gyeoru turned 18, his enthusiasm remained compelling and that was his clout – that was all that he had as an advantage over those who were evidently younger who clung to their social status throughout the grounding. Now, the evolving repository of wishes rides the waves of destiny.

“You poor and lowly thing, do you really think you will have a worth for this kingdom? You have no place here, you insolent being.” The taunting Gyeoru received every single day for some, might be unbearable, but he remains firm and manifested healthy stubbornness.

A deep and steady breath – that was all it took for Gyeoru to channel his mother’s dauntlessness when it comes to speaking, “If it were not for us lowly beings you call, you people will be the most inferior – do not speak as if you govern this land.”

There was only silence after that, but bells of defeat were resonating loudly in his adversaries’ auditory chambers.

To twenty-six moons, Gyeoru whispered his troubles – hoping that their waxing would also vanish such sentiments. They did, and after twenty-six moons, Gyeoru was dubbed a knight, sworn to protect the kingdom, its leader, and most especially, its people.

For two long years, his mother waited for his son’s return – and for whatever nature of the ebb would bring him back, she would embrace him for he was her son, her pride and joy. “Welcome home, our knight.”

That was the night she appeared most vulnerable, an unfazed woman, sobbing due to her child’s return. “Thank you mother, I apologize for having you and father wait for so long.”

Chapter Three: The Defeat

T

here are no noteworthy tales to be archived from Gyeoru’s experience as a knight. His duties were somehow laid-back: intervening in folk quarrel, aiding the aged, and responding to petty crimes. Nonetheless, he valued his duties and always made sure to resonate with how his parents did theirs – with fondness and precision.

He was admired, for the most part – some even claiming that he was the model knight. Gyeoru did not mind the flattery and instead, continued to work hard. Some were beginning to become threatened. After all, why would someone born from servants be deemed as an exemplar? Thus, a few of his resentful companions tried their very best as well to ruin him.

They succeeded and the tides changed. Gyeoru was swallowed by the vortex of a catastrophe.

There were rumors of brigands plotting to disturb the kingdom’s peace: to rob merchants of their goods and to steal jewelry from the rich. Gyeoru was part of the troop who were tasked to patrol and promptly respond must there be any signs of impending turmoil.

Come the time where the bandits attempted to overwhelm their forces and they were forced to fend them off. There were casualties from both sides and after the clash, they were asked to patrol yet again, to check up if there were any injured civilians.

Gyeoru went towards the courtly part of the kingdom along with the person who would twist his fate. Upon entering the vicinity of an affluent individual’s courtyard, Gyeoru was knocked unconscious along with the owner of the house and a few servants. The vile soldier planted jewelry in Gyeoru’s possession and left him – he was found by a higher ranking soldier.

Everything from then on was unforgiving, the antagonist’s fabricated story was solid – enough to put the defenseless Gyeoru to trial. There was not even a vindication, only discrimination and blind belief towards the false accusations. After all, what could the son of a destitute couple want more than the wealth of the wellborn?

Rid of his title as a knight and ousted from the cradle of the kingdom, all Gyeoru felt was contempt towards himself. There was a fleeting moment even that he almost believed he really had done such transgression – but he did not, yet all he could do was to accept that it had been done.

Gyeoru, one fated to tread life without experiencing a downfall, was now free-falling on a seemingly bottomless pit: a sculpture broken in half, a cog unhinged.

Chapter Four: The Redemption

A

courier arrived months after his expatriation and with him was Gyeoru’s only opportunity to acquit himself—or so he thought. It was an assignment, to be a personal guard to a princess. The moment Gyeoru read through such a statement, he was dumbfounded. A chastened knight, accused of theft and aggression, is being appointed to protect royalty. Though, as he continued he recognized the figure whom he will foster: Princess Yeonah, the exiled.

Nevertheless, the dwindling fervor in his core was now ablaze again, and with the steed provided by those who delegated the role, he went to where her royal highness lived in seclusion. Gyeoru was not the one to care about disreputable accounts regarding the sovereigns, hence the most he knew was that Princess Yeonah was banished – akin to his fate.

The first few months were vague, he received no acknowledgment from the princess and he was simply there, spectating. The princess would often flee and that made Gyeoru agitated. He cannot fail once again and thus, after those rather uncomfortable weeks, he mustered what was left of his courage to reprimand the rebellious liege.

“Pardon my intrusion, Princess Yeonah, but I respectfully request for you to stop your evasion from the premises. If there is anything you desire, delicacies, clothing, and any other, I am at your disposal – simply heed my concern.” Gyeoru swore he spoke without catching his breath even once, only to be dismissed and for the princess to escape once again.

Such was the situation for at least a year or so, then Gyeoru tried to change his approach by solely making sure that the princess returned uninjured—even providing an alibi when suspicions arose. Morning or evening, he waited – contemplated in between, often so, replaying the unfortunate night he continued to brood over.

“Milady,” The man paused, the sensation of such a title felt bitter against his tongue. To address someone of such status so casually – but, it was the princess’ command and that he shall treat as absolute. “Have you been told of how I came to be here?”

Recollecting the shards of what had been broken pricked Gyeoru but if it meant there would be a way to put them together again, he would do it. At that moment, it felt that the more he abided by his duties as the princess’ protector while respecting her decisions—at times even helping her—he would find his worth again, rekindle with the essence of his pledge.

Then came the threat of the invasion, together with the princess, they were sent to seclusion among many others. What coursed through Gyeoru’s veins during their voyage was fear with a tinge of anger for he was not certain if he was ready to face those who persecuted him. Yet, at the same time, there too was pride, for he managed to hold on for so long.

Perhaps, what his name has prophesied for him would still be fulfilled: he would overcome the trials and emerge as a perfect sculpture and a cog that completes a mechanism.

OUT OF CHARACTER    타자수
J4G97mT.png

೫  introduction

basic。

I don't really mind being called by my character's name or username. My pronouns are she/her. I am of legal age.

activity。

My timezone is GMT+8 but my activity here is rather inconsistent. I could stay here for a whole day or be on/off depending on my mood. As of the moment, it's more likely the latter. The online sign can be trusted most of the time but it doesn't guarantee a response. As of the moment, I am attending online university classes.

೫  writing

point of view。

Strictly 3rd POV since I tend to write a lot of details.

locations。

I almost always prefer rooms. My walls are almost always closed unless I have agreed to write and/or the premise of the plot is too heavy to be done on rooms. My PMs are for OOC matters only and nothing else.

genres。

Genres I prefer depend on which trope my character falls. Mature themes are fine (if the roleplay permits it, that is). -centric plots, however, will be rejected without any hesitations. I write but only if it's just around 10% of the whole plot.

starters。

For the most part, I prefer to drop the starter. However, if it makes more sense for you to do so, then we shall go with that.

length。

I almost always multi-para unless my muse is low or the pacing doesn't require that much of a length. I love writing about my character's thoughts and some fillers, so I hope you don't mind that. I am capable of writing novella although at my current state at the moment, that would be somehow rare. I don't usually care about mirroring as long as I have something I could work with.

style。

My writing style is between lyrical writing and purple prose although as of the moment, I would most likely lean more towards beige prose. I use figure of speech a lot especially metaphors. So, if my writing is kind of hard to interpret, you may always ask for clarifications and such (or request me to lessen it; I accept constructive criticism on my writings).

speed。

I usually try to accomplish a starter or reply as soon as I can. Although most of the time I don't have equal muse for every thread, I tend to reply to/start them chronologically. Poke me after 7 days and only after 7 days, any time earlier, I would mostly just ignore.

೫  description。 Perhaps due to the years of being banished, Gyeoru longed for something. Though it is not particularly romance as Gyeoru had long abandoned his wishes to delve into that, fate has once again changed the tides. And so, come forth his bud of a feeling for you – will it ever blossom? Probably, but only rapidly wither.
