so the way i usually run mafia is that first i will gather everyone who is playing in a list, then using a random list chooser, i will pm those who have a role.
the roles are mafia, police, doctor
whoever is not pmed, is a citizen
mafia will pm me who they want to k word
police will pm me to find out the role of one person
doctor will pm me who they want to save
citizens will wait until nightfall

when i receive those pms, i then construct a story and tell you what happens during nightfall
then everyone will have a chance to discuss and vote one person they think is mafia
once gathering the votes, the person with the most votes has a chance to defend themselves
if votes change, then that new person had to defend themselves
if not, then that person dies
day starts again and we repeat the process


we continue on until all mafia are dead, or mafia has killed enough people that citizens cannot win

depending on how many people play, there are different numbers of each role
