Henry was born in Toronto, Canada, to his mother and father of Taiwan and Hong Kong descent, respectively. He has an older brother and a younger sister, and the three of them grew up with music. His mother was a homemaker who taught them the piano, and Henry picked up the violin at 6 as well. He is a classically trained musician and has had a successful career in music with an accolade of awards from the Royal Conservatory of Music and the Canadian Royal Conservatory of Music. In his youth, Henry trained to become a professional violinist, but also picked up many instruments and vocal techniques. 

At 16, Henry studied between Beijing and Shandong for a music performance major and to further his knowledge in traditional music. He entered his first serious relationship there as well, and had planned to settle with her after they graduated and stabilized their lives. After she moved overseas for her career when he was 21, Henry toured with The Sympony Orchestra of Central Conservatory of Music (Beijing) and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra as concertmaster for 5 years.

A little past his mid-twenties, Henry settled in Seoul for a fresh start, where the music industry was beginning to reach international audiences thanks to breakthrough of select k-pop groups. With a strong background in music theory and composition, he produced music for several companies as a freeland before signing with DSF at a much higher rate than working on his own.
