― his parents had always battled with their own addictions which left yoonsu to fend for himself and his younger brother, until the day when child protection services came to take them away. 
― as a result of this, his grandparents were the only people they had left to turn to for support, despite how nobody wanting to be involved in the two child's life. yet, that never bothered yoonsu as he grew up living an ordinary healthy life in the hands of his grandparents. his brother, however, didn't when he was diagonsed with a rare disease, one that was treatable but uncurable. 
― due to the tight conditions they lived in, yoonsu looked for opportunities to make money off of and worked as a newspaper boy throughout his childhood. though it was easy money, it wasn't enough to continue to pay treatment for his brother along with his grandparents retirement income. 
― eventually, when the day of his brother's funeral came, yoonsu swore on his death bed he'd do everything in his will to help others who suffered from his brother's condition. thus, motivating him to excel further into his academics while caring for his folks and working multiple part-time jobs to make enough for a living.
