He was born in 1817. He died two decades later, in 1838, during an influenza pandemic. He'd been the youngest son of a scholar, had held no inheritance, and had had no meaningful relationship in life. Death came easy.
He was turned two days later and awoke in 1840. His body, half-destroyed in his battle with the disease, had been rebuilt to the lanky shape that he'd held before his illness. But his apathy for life hadn't been cured, no matter how perfect his rebirth had made him. His creator had plucked him out of the chaos of the dying civilization because Jungshin had had an interesting quality about him, a disregard for life that made him both dangerous and boring at the same time. At least he wasn't squeamish or disturbed the first time he fed; his meal was the local magistrate's daughter - a nasty girl with a penchant to use her body to get what she wanted. She had tasted sour and the rancid sensation lingered, even as her body withered into a pile of dust.
Roaming the world for the next century, he parted ways with his maker with an amicable goodbye when he opted to travel to Japan to settle instead of remaining in Korea. There, he maintained a job as a "Wish Granter", trading his services for an equivalent amount of blood.
Sometime recently, he received word that his old maker had settled down and Lee Jungshin booked a plane ticket back home.
He wonders what'll happen this time around. But until then, he'll be in the antique shop with his partner - in - crime, waiting for someone to break the boredom in his life.
