All had been peaceful until the guard went missing. In fact some would say it was too peaceful, but sometimes the fact I am in prison slips my mind. One moment I am alone, and the next something sharp is pressing against my middle back, and a husky voice is mumuring some insignificant words in my ear. Words I have heard a million times, words that have long since lost their meaning, words veiled and sandwiched in between threats and violent promises. My mind goes blank, and in the next moment I am instead holding the weapon- which turned out to be a kitchen knife. Though rather dull, it seemed this inmate had attempted to sharpen it with something else, the blade knicked and slightly bent. I turn to stare at them on the ground with the water from the shower pattering behind myself, the handle of the knife gripped so tightly between my fingers they were beginning to turn white. The prisoner seemed terrified, shouting for help as he scrambles to his feet and books it out of the room. My mind decays into shambles. The hand that had so confidently held the weapon begins to tremble like a leaf, and the steamy shower room wobbles into a watery blur as I stumble to the side and drop onto the floor, kneels pulling into my chest. I could hear other inmates calling for the guards, the word 'armed' being tossed around.. but all that echoed within my head were those filthy words the man had spoken.
'You're a pretty little thing aren't cha? All the others want a piece but I tol em' you're mine. You do it on purpose eh? For attention.. walking around with your hair all long like a girl.' My fingers stop trembling as the tears streak down my cheeks. I turn the blade towards myself and begin to slash at my hair, the silky locks falling onto the shower floor.
