My Tumblr Roleplaying Horror Story [A really long rant and exposé of sorts]

Some of you who I rp with or who admin a rp that I'm in might have (hopefully) been wondering where I've been lately... well, I have a rant and exposé of sorts... and it's about tumblr roleplays.

Or rather one tumblr rp in particular... I'll call this tumblr rp I joined... "E".

Now keep in mind, in no way am I completely bashing them. I'm just exposing a few ed up things those admins did and some ed up things that happened while I was in this particular rp. The rp itself is just... lovely... but as someone who is new to roleplaying on tumblr via a group rp and just new to roleplaying on tumblr in general I was definitely chewed up in that rp and spat out like a ing wad of gum.

I know that some people here on RPR used to rp on tumblr and probably have horror stories. I've been rping on RPR since maybe 2015 so roleplaying on tumblr is brand new to me.

So without further ado here's my tumblr roleplaying horror story...

(Happy Halloween by the way)

Okay so, there were two main admins both were friendly gals and understood that I was new to tumblr roleplaying. At the very start is where we get to the red flags. I only noticed that some were red flags afterwards and some I noticed right away.

1st red flag: They had me get an all new separate account instead of roleplaying with my side blog I had created just to roleplay.

- This one really and took up a bunch of my time that I can unfortunately never get back. The admins of "E" had me make a whole other blog to rp with when I already had a blog ready. They didn't want me to rp with a "sideblog" even though right after I joined they changed that rule so literally there was no point for me to make a whole other tumblr account with a new email account and everything.

2nd red flag: Ignoring my messages.

- This one just made me feel like but I haven't even scratched the surface with the one that really made me feel ty. So with the tumblr app (as crappy as it is) you can see if someone is online and if someone has been active fairly recently. Long story short, the admins and others in the tumblr rp actively ignored me when I sent them messages. It made me feel like an outsider, like I didn't fit in at all no matter how "nice" they were.

3rd red flag: The wanted character connection fiasco.

- There are two separate issues where this happened. The first was a character connection I wanted to be filled and had posted in their ask box like I was supposed to. The faceclaim I had in mind for the connection was a male actor and I had already sent in the post to the main rp blog and the main admin posted it immediately in the wanted connections page. NOT EVEN A FEW MINUTES LATER the main admin had posted a new character on the main rp blog page and sure enough it was the male actor I wanted as the connection faceclaim but it wasn't even my connection or the role I put in my connection it was a completely different role and everything for that character and the main admin was roleplaying as them as their oc so my connection was completely null and void!

The next connection issue was with my second character. I answered a wanted character connection and had responded to the poster who just so happened to be the other admin of the rp. I made my bio and posted a starter for the character and everything. The admin didn't reply to me for days until a couple days after my second character bio and starter were posted. I was excited and ready to rp... until they messaged me and told me that what I had in the bio and the starter wasn't what they had in mind for the connection when I followed the connection they posted precisely! They then told me that there were things they neglected to put in the connection and told me that I can drop the character if I wanted to... after I spent all that time developing the character from their connection and made a starter in anticipation of them responding to it but that wasn't even good enough. I got pretty exasperated at that point so I unfortunately left that character only to replace that character with another one... which brings me to the biggest red flag that both pissed me off and made me feel kinda ty...

4th red flag: The tale of the trigger warning.

- So after I left the second character (I still had my first one) I replaced her with another oc of mine (OC's were allowed in the rp in fact it was OC only). My new oc was a warrior viking queen who's faceclaim was Katheryn Winnick. She's gritty, she's bloodthirsty, she had tragedy, she had romance, her character bio had it all because I put my blood, sweat and tears into it and worked on it for hours. Of course because she's a warrior queen of the vikings she had trigger warnings at the very beginning of her bio. The trigger warnings were the first thing I typed up before I started her bio. After I was done, the main admin reblogged the post and put it in their archive for others to see and that was that. I posted my new character's starter as well and waited for people to respond to it. My muse was high once again I was excited because my character was a bad and I couldn't wait to let my muse flow.

Hours later.... it happened. I checked my messages and lo and behold I got kicked from the rp because of the triggering content in my character's bio. But I followed the rules and listed the triggering content in her bio at the very beginning. I checked the archive and when the admin had reblogged it they removed the trigger warning at the top of the post and put it in the tags where no one would see them and it wasn't even ALL of the warnings literally only ONE of the warnings was in the tags. And it's also worth noting that the rp didn't have rules against triggering content either. So, I was removed from the rp AND they have a system where they tell the members of the rp on the main blog page to unfollow certain people if they are inactive or are removed by the admins themselves like I was and therefore I was up there on the main blog page with the words: unfollow this account. And everyone could see it and unfollow me from there.

It was horrific and it all happened within one whole week plus the weekend.

So, I unfollowed just about everyone, I got rid of all tags that had to do with the rp and I got rid of my first character in retaliation and kept the character I got kicked out for. I kept the trigger warnings and turned my blog into an indie rp blog where anyone can hit me up to rp.

I vowed that my horrible experience would not get me down and it won't. My rp tumblr blog is moomoo1blog.tumblr.com if any of you are interested in roleplaying with me there.

I will still be roleplaying here of course and I hope that my story is a cautionary tale for people who are curious about tumblr roleplaying. Thanks and let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.

This makes me both curious to join a Tumblr rp and stay away! I've only tried to rp there with friends years ago but I wasn't too good at it. I'd like to try it again but stuff like this make me unsure...
