I'm really curious, so help me with some answers.

So as the title says, I'm really curious about a few things, I'd appreciate some answers.
I need to say this, I'm NOT being a snob, nor am I trying to throw shade, just 100 % curiousity.

1. Why is there so many roleplays around where it is only or yuri only?
I know it's the admin's choice what to do with their roleplays, but why should there be a need for that?
I mean, I have seen many blogs in my time about how we all have our freedom to choose if we want to play as a gay character, or if we want to play as a lesbian, that we shouldn't be shamed about it, and everyone have the right to be what they want. Then why does it feel as if we now play as a straight character then we are being shamed?

2. I see in so many rps that the password to the application which used to be something to make sure people read the rules is now becoming like a big riddle or mystery, that we have to move from room to room, look back and forth to find it, and it's not even plain written. Why the big trouble?

3. Why is it now a part of every roleplay, if you join then you have to get 50 or 100 post within the first few days? most of these posts are being posted in the ooc room, so it's not even in being active for the roleplay. I see so many people, they are super active at the ooc room, but when it comes to the roleplaying, they post a single reply in a week, so I don't find it that helpful, unless one doesn't care where the activity happens.

4. Why does so many talk about no (in the roleplay) for underage fc?
And here I don't mean kids, or fc of a 4 or 5 years old girl or boy, that is pedophelia, and IT'S NOT ACCEPTED at all..
I mean more like a character with the age 16-18, that is being underage, but in many counteries, specofically here in Europe, the ual consensual age is either 15 or 16, so howcome that is not accepted? Am I missing something, or many here in this website haven't had intercouse before the age of 18?

5. last but not least, why make a public roleplay if the admins only roleplay between themselves, and if one dares and say something to them about it, you get a warning and get kicked out right away? I mean the admins should be fair with everyone, even those who aren't their friends, and should also abide their own rules. Almost every single roleplay have the rule about, no face chaising, no bubble roleplaying, and try and roleplay with everyone.
So why bother put the rule their, if the admins themselves doesn't follow them?

That's all from me, sorry if this is unappreciated for some of you, as I said above I'm just curious, I'm also at work, and there isn't much to do, so also bored :P

Have a great day everyone <3

i'm so glad you asked tbh not enough people ask these questions

1) most people on roleplayrepublic come from asianfanfics, which is a platform for fanfiction. since mainstream media doesn't portray same relationships often or well, fanfiction is the most accessible form of lgbt content that fills in the gaps mainstream media leaves. aff writers and readers are on rpr and wish to fulfil the same thing that fanfiction gives them with the intimacy of being in the shoes of their characters and interacting with their favorite characters. also, the taboo of same love seems to strengthen the bonds of these relationships that occur in both rpr and aff. the idea of loving somebody despite the world rejecting them is something that a lot of people hold as a sincere act of love and wish to have somebody love them despite the world telling them no. a lot of us here are deprived of affection and we just need to know that it's possible for somebody to love us for who we are and not what we have. it feels like straight relationships and people are shamed because being straight is the norm and a lot of people who find comfort in taboo relationships find that, in most straight relationships, everybody settles. you, a straight woman, settle for a straight man because he's good enough, not because you would defy society for him. you, a straight woman, are attracted to this straight man because your biology says you want to have children, not because the moment you set your eyes on him you couldn't stop thinking about him despite every fiber in your body telling you no. what i'm trying to communicate is that straight relationships are considered inferior on rpr because there's no resistance, no fight, no struggle to be together and you can have your happily ever after without having any obstacles in the way.

2) passwords used to just be one word in one of the rules, which led people to only searching for that one word instead of actually reading the rules. people still don't read the rules despite the passwords seeming to be riddles. we just want people to read the goddamn rules because everybody here is so comfortable with the rules being // 1) favorite & upvote 2) don't be rude 3) you'll be kicked within 48 hours of being inactive 4) relationship ban of 3 days 5) no facechasing // that it's become hard to manage a roleplay that has rules that expand beyond this simply because people don't read the rules.

3) we just don't want anybody to character hog, which is when people reserve a character half-heartedly, then apply either immediately or last minute, only to never actually have any activity in the rp. while some people /do/ have activity going on in pms and walls, if there are no signs that they're interacting with anybody in the rp, then we can only assume that they're not actively participating. having 50 or 100 pts within a certain window is there to ensure that people are actually reaching out to others within the community of the rp.

4) i'm going to honest, i've been on this site for a very long time and i know a lot of people who've been here with me and when we were underaged kids, we'd all the ing time - but this was also when we'd just rp without any detail like '/s you' and '/s' and a lot of what i did were jokes between me and my peers. but now, as an adult, i refuse to let anybody underage or any underaged fc participate in ual actions because there are actual adults here that want to participate in ual activities with other adults, not teenagers. i do not know anybody who wants to a teenager here and none of them would consent to ing a teenager. but also, no underaged fcs for activities regardless of what country says they're able to consent solely out of respect for these underaged fcs. and honestly, i don't feel comfortable even letting 18/19 year olds in these rps, but i know that when i was that age, i wanted to play somebody that reflected my age better, so i respect that as long as they don't come near me lmao yall kids can play doctor on your own

5) from an outside perspective, it may look like admins are just rping between themselves and their friends, and honestly, i feel the same way - just not to that extent. a lot of people in this community are growing up and going to school and beginning their careers as adults and don't have the time to be friendly and open to everybody anymore. this was a lot easier in the summer during our high school and early college years, but it's a lot harder these days now that everybody is getting older and it's unfortunate for the newer people in the community who didn't get to experience the fun of those days. i find that there's a huge problem with cliques on rpr these days and the community is only getting smaller, which makes the problem even more prevalent. a lot of people have found what they're comfortable with writing and stay in that comfort zone since rpr is not a priority in their lives. while you may feel resentment toward admins who don't rp with you, remember that they're in charge of tens of strangers and only have time to write 3-5 threads across all of the roleplays that they're in while still managing their rps from behind the scenes. the real issue here is within the community. literally everybody i know complains about nobody rping with them. the people who do reach out don't get any responses back and the ones who don't reach out complain about there being nobody worth their time to rp with. this is because chatrooms have become so ooc that it's hard to get into a rping groove and finding people you actually click with rping wise rather than ooc wise. i've seen a lot of rps try to be as ic as possible, but the ooc cliques still stick together and make it hard for others to join in unless they either know each other from another rp or they're playing a desired fc that everybody is about to facechase. it's an issue that i'm still trying to configure, but because the community on this site is so thin and i have absolutely no time for the site anymore, i don't think it's a problem i can fix lmao yall gotta figure it out on your own and it's going to have to be a big change

honestly i have an issue with statement four and the way you've spoken about it in these comments here.

i've read all the comments to this blog and i've read the comment replies to see the discussion because i didn't wanna just reiterate everything that's already been said.

now of course, the website rules themselves state that you cannot rp anything ual with anybody under 18. this has been spoken about to you by many people.

now yes, in europe the age of consent is fluctuating and it's 15/16 whatever, i don't live in europe. but one, you have to take into consideration the types of face claims used, where most of them are asian and have a variety of nationalities.

most of us rp south korean face claims, and the age of consent is korean age 17/international age 16
in mainland china, the age of consent is 14
in hong kong, the age of consent is 16
in japan, the age of consent is 18 (and used to be 13)
in macau, the age of consent is 14
in taiwan, the age of consent is 16
in thailand, the age of consent is 18

do you see the discrepancy between all of these different nationalities? a lot of us are at the age where anybody younger than 18 rping is a big no no, and then of course people using face claims who are younger than 18 is also a big no no because there have been MANY times on rpr where somebody has ualised a minor (but nobody ever releases the usernames of those who have done so which means some of them are still just hanging around rping freely).

it's easier to blanket statement that since koreans have to be 19 or up, to just generalise the rule to "you can only rp anybody 19 and up" because of the fact that people are very good at ualising minors on here. especially because koreans are not considered actual adults until they are korean age 20/international age 19, which is as far as i know the oldest age to still be considered a minor (i could be wrong though i'm not all knowing).

and look, i understand. you've said to people that you would never do it, that you wouldn't break these rules that those have stated on here, but then on the other hand you're also trying to justify the fact that in other countries the age of consent is younger than eighteen and it "should be okay if it's your preference". did you know that in yemen, if a female is married, they're legally allowed to have at the young age of nine?

my point is, if we ONLY go by age of consent in other countries, then we would be ualising face claims who, in the more conservative countries, probably haven't even been thinking about because they've been so focused on school and their future careers and all of that stuff. and while the site runner is from america and you're not considered an adult until you're 18 years old, it's MUCH easier to generalise the rule as "if you wanna be considered an adult and do all the mature stuff on this site, since most of us are rping korean people, you have to use someone who's 19 years of age or older".

and yes, it can be implied or whatever that was had younger than that, but we don't need to rp it.

now this! especially the 5th statement .. i just dont understand at all why it has become like that

My eyes burn reading the blog plus the comments rip me :crying: but ill have to say i disagree with certain things.. i wont pinpoint what exactly because majority ‘seemingly’ have the same views and it wont do any good to try to make them look at it a different way, but (1) with the straight one.. i have seen people complain about why everyone is gay, ect its not enough straight people, ect. So its not as if straight characters are being shamed its just majority places occupy a bunch of bi or gay characters but thats not to say straight chRs are shamed the only places are /in my opinion/ to assure everyones on the same page and not feeling left out because all orientation can get like that.

(2) i do hope people go back to making things less complicated because it do be hard getting the password lately and idk why to be honest.

(3) i think its kind of useless because that roleplay could still very well fall inactive even after people have gained those points, or it just fabricates the actual activity of the place, even though its meant to assure the participants activity.. it hardly does that though.

(4) i cant really answer this one, simply because 1 im not from america so ages 15-16-17 doesnt bother me when they began exploring their uality in that way, however but one of these recent years people of rpr began to be more concerned over that because of *insert majority of the commenters answers for 4* so theres that, i just sometimes believe its way over the top when pedophelia & CP is brought into it because thats NO ONES intention but yeah thats it for this one

(5) that isnt very good admining skills, because its for 1 bubble rping and its noninclusive which is terrible if they’re preaching in the rules to be welcoming inclusive blah blah but they dont do that.. as a admin even, so i hate to see it and hope those kind of people should just stick to personal friends only rps and not waste other peoples time who’s trying to HAVE a good time

But yeah thats my thoughts on it, if you have an opinion about my opinion, please address me how you would want to be addressed and not be rude, otherwise have a good day /night everyone!

Hi,

1. People can be whatever they want to be and love whoever they want to love. Just because there are many roleplays on the website doesn't mean that they are shaming you for choosing to go for other orientations. They just want to be in a safe place with people that have the same preference as them. Nothing bad about that. If you want to make a straight roleplay, too, that's fine. No one's going to say anything. I don't know where you get the idea that there are many yuri roleplays because my friend (who enjoys writing for lesbian characters) said that it is very scarce to find that on the website.

2. I am not sure about non-aus, but I can understand why it is adhered to au roleplays. Some roleplayers barely read through the information on the first page without checking other rooms that may contain more information. Hence, there may be questions that have been answered in the FAQ, but some don't bother checking it. If an admin keeps receiving the same question, they would feel disheartened too.

3. To be honest, this rule is implemented to prevent roleplayers from hogging a character. And that's it. However, I do believe that there are other ways to prevent such an issue without requiring them to post in IC rooms, such as "- having this amount of active threads in a week," or "- contributing to this event," and so on. No rules are perfect. Hence, admins will come up with new creative rules to ensure activity, participation from the roleplayers, and hopefully, this time, build a solid bridge between the roleplayer and the roleplay itself.

4. If it's cursing, I guess that's plenty of normal because kids curse. We all know that. But we also have to understand that (A) these faceclaims are underage (B) the person behind the faceclaims are underage. You have to adhere to the law of these countries too. Hence, everyone on the website unanimously agreed to make it +19 IC/OOC so no one is being used or put in danger.

5. Being an admin is tough and not many realize the responsibilities that come with the role. You not only have to create rooms, manage masterlist, send warnings, resolve issues, but you also have to ensure that everyone is having a good time in the roleplay. That's including helping other roleplayers with their character (brainstorming), plotting and roleplaying with them, taking in suggestions and discussing them with the team, implementing them, and stuff. It's not easy so if anyone wants to open a roleplay, make sure to have plenty of time, willing to work and manage, and have a good team.

all this based on my personal opinions. you have a great day too ! :D

1. i would say some of us really just want to be in /yuri rps only rps and its not wrong, its their own preferences. might be influenced by their ooc uality, no offense. trust me, there's no such thing as you're being shamed if you played straight character. it's just back to everyone's preference tbh. and i can say there are still plenty of all orientation allowed nonaus and aus out there that people who don't do yuri / can join.

2.its really just to make sure that those who wanted to join to read the rules carefully because some really just gonna turn on their selective reading mode and find the pw and skip the whole rules. tbh i also find it annoying when the font do be like super small in size making it hard to read the rules and find the pw all together but until someone discover a new way to make people read the whole rules without having to hide the p/w somewhere in between, ig this is the only way for now.

3.right. it used to be about your activity on walls, your replies and all but somehow the trend had changed to to consider a rp being active is by having a very active chatroom. often people will dip / rp will be drafted or closed once no one talking in chatroom which is sad. but to reach certain pts within the first few days is just a way to prevent a rper to hog a chara. i mean, some will still do a die after reaching the required pts but at least not all ig ?

4.for this pt, every country has their own ages of consent and since we mostly rping korean idols so we of course will follow korea legal age. after all, these idols are humans. they are out there living their life and dont even know that we're here rping as them. best is, we show them some respect doesn't matter if in their real live, they'd do the worse thing compared to what we are doing here but as long as we're using their names, their faces, their identity, it's best for us to show them respect. and honestly i get it if at your place, legal age is 15 / 16 but i'd also say, if you have like 125672 idols with age 20 and above out there, why must we use a 15 / 16 yo face for ing / ual related rpings.

5.this one is really simple, some are just not good at being admins and if you're lucky, you'll find a good admin. if not, well i guess you have to suffer moving from one rp to another until you find a good admin ig.

I’m sure most people have answered your other questions but I just wanted to say one thing for number 4..

Age of consent and being a legal adult aren’t the same things. Anyone under the age of 18 are still considered minors who need parental consent or guardian consent to do many things. Unless you’re legally an adult (or in many cases legal age of majority aka if you commit a crime and will be sent to regular jail instead of juvenile / when you can personally consent to scientific research without consent of a parent or guardian / buy & drink alcohol legally / many age of licensing / voting age… aka all the things related to law).

I remember researching about this a little while ago because someone had brought up why they can’t rp as a 17 year old in a rated M rp…

I hope i don't come off as rude with my responses because I have no ill intentions whatsoever! Just trying to give my perspective (which goes off of previous answers for some)

1) No one is shaming anyone. As someone of the lgbtq+ community, I can assure you that most of us don't want to shane anyone because we have always been shamed, ridiculed, etc for uality, gender, etc. If you want an rp that includes straight couples, make one! ^^ A lot of people also just prefer (mostly) and yuri. I've always been told that if I want something done, I have to do it myself. So I def encourage you to create an all ori or straight rp♡

2) I feel like some people do it to be , but I also feel like others are still doing it to make sure you have read everything. It's really a pain in the , though. I'm not a huge fan of it.

3) I haven't seen this in a while tbh. Most rps I've joined have had the points turned off for ooc room, and most of the points have been earned in the regular ic chat... which often time mixes both ooc and ic. It's supposed to be used to, yes, keep activity up so a) they don't character hog and b) to get more people's attention. Usually if people see the rp is active, it makes them wanna join. Or that's how it was before.

4) This one is a sensitive one because countries do have different ages of consent, but because I'm American (and a lot of other admins might be too), 18 is the age of consent, as it has been stated before. So, 15 and 16 year olds partaking in anything ual isn't okay. In Korea, age of consent is 19 or 20, and many people have started to realize this now so they require fcs to be at least 19. It isn't a matter of whether or not we have had or anything in the like at 15/16. It isn't a matter of what people do happen to do but rather what is legal, illegal, moral, and immoral. This is basically just a repeat of previous comments, so I don't think I need to say anything more. I just know that if I see people that are considered underage in the eyes of many, I won't be joining an rp that allows it. Because as it was said before, it is ography for anyone under 18 and I, because of where I am from, find it immoral and.. for lack of a better word, gross. I hope this isn't offensive ;;-;;

5) Some people are hypocritical and fail to see the double standards. They shouldn't have that admin role if they aren't going to hold themselves to those same rules they are holding others to. Period. However, some people just like that power dynamic. Doesn't make it right, but that's how some people are. Really not a fan of them :')

I hope this helped to have from another person's perspective. I'm not good at explaining things, but I hope it was okay enough lol.

in no means to offend anyone. i'll answer part of it.

2. honestly, many users don't read rules these days. admins just wanted to make sure that people actually read the rules. rules are there to be read, understand and follow. the passwords are usually hidden at places that a user must read, understand and follow before joining :D

3. prevent character hogging. this happens quite often where people join and do nothing in the rp. like literally 0 pts for one whole roleplay lifetime.

4. this is a form of respect, and i repeat respect towards the face claim. even though we are roleplaying, the face claims are real people and we /don't/ really have their consent, to be honest. most face claims here are from south korea, which is why it is said 19+ or 20+ and do take note of the culture difference. there had been too much happening about users using minor face claims to . imagine your young self being famous and people use your face to ?

Something interesting i've seen in the newer rps is that you cannot rp someone who's dead, married, doesn't want to be rped, etc. I get it why there's a rule like that. Wonder who explicitly said that they don't want to be rped tho, but yeah, it's creepy and weird if someone rped you.
ab488710bea4a1fd96a8 2 years ago
I'm gonna give my take in super short answers, just from being here for.. well, since it opened.

1. Because that's what gets most people. People open only rps because that's what.. most of the percentage of people here join for. Yuri because nowhere does it and that's the best way to find other Yuri rpers. It's nothing against straight but when you have rps that allow everyone, you just end up with pissed off straight muses because everyone's gay.

2. People just like being at this point. It used to be for the rules, yeah because people would blatantly show that they hadn't read them - now it's just.. a game. Who knows tbh.

3. It's just about activity to show you'll be active, from what I've seen. It's ridiculous but that's how you keep the rp as active as possible but it kinda just pushes people out- especially if they work or have school.

4. So this is tricky because most people go by the fact you are not an adult until you're 18. Then you have the people that go by korean age. In my opinion, you shouldn't be having your muse under 18 in ual situations, it's a huge no and a big red flag. It doesn't matter where you're from, you're playing someone else and putting them in a situation like that is, in a way, ia in itself. If THEY are doing it under 18, that's there business- but its not your place to put them in that kind of situation. However, the last part - that's also no one's business at all. I know several people here and out of here that haven't. And once again; that is entirely there business. Not to mention, if you post explicit things about someone under 18 it's considered ography.

5. Some people shouldn't be admins, it's simple. Everyone is gonna bubble. Everyone is gonna face chase- you aren't stopping that. There are a lot of good admins here and there are a lot of bendy admins that don't follow their own rules. I, myself, can't say anything. I used to do this because I would end up with severe anxiety in my own rp lmao but I also wouldn't get mad at others for it.

+ this is just my take but I'm also half asleep and dead inside, sitting at work listening to kids scream their heads off. Wasn't trying to offend but I tend to do that regardless without trying so. Things could be worded bad too, just ig just let me know ¿
chikookiehope 2 years ago
Regarding the age of adulthood. Many are going based off of the Korean standpoint, as many rp Korean idols. In Korea, it is age of 20, but due to how their age system is, this could be 18/19 in American and European countries.

Also, many admins are American. Our of-age age is also 18. Anything under is considered ia as technically people do not mature mentally until their 20s, or college age. Children do not stop developing until the ages of 18-21 as well. Thus 16 year olds are children, even if they want to act otherwise.

I hope that helped.
