ttrpg possibilities in rpr

ever since branching out from dnd, i've been discovering more and more awesome games to play that are a lot more applicable to roleplay republic... i've been searching because i've always wanted a roleplay that benefits from using a ttrpg system. i've always wanted one with structured yet flexible lore, character development options, story goals, team dynamics, specialties, feats, chance, risk, and rewards. i think all those provide an engaging rhythm in plots and allow me to be more invested in how a story goes. it's because for me, mechanics allow for interesting story beats.

out of all the ones i've looked into, i think blades in the dark (as well as forged in the dark games and the newly-released candela obscura) stood out the most. it uses a d6 pool system for actions instead of d20+stats+bonus dice, and a tallied threshold system for injuries instead of HP. both are so easy to follow, and that's good given how dangerous your missions can be. you can calculate your risks easily but at the same time process harm systematically and in a way that is narratively rewarding.

and a lot of existing games of the same system can already cover genres rpers already love. i cannot stress enough how excited i am to bring these roleplays to life. however as someone who focuses on group/party threads as an admin (gm), i can accept only 5 members for each one. so... if anyone wants to make bigger sandbox roleplays, please feel free to view these as my recommendations if you wish to try applying ttrpg systems to your roleplays too.

criminal - blades in the dark

horror - candela obscura (although this is formally based on illuminated worlds... it's still heavily inspired by blades in the dark)

sci fi mercenary (like guardians of the galaxy) - scum & villainy

medieval fantasy - band of blades (disclaimer: this one is not beginner level. it requires a lot of admin work because of ranks but it's *chef kiss* if you like high levels of angst/grief/drama... because more likely than not, there will be character deaths)

another i would recommend are game systems based on Powered by the Apocalypse. they seem good for roleplays that tackle dystopias, conspiracies, monster societies, and studio-ghibli-esque worldbuilding. i'd like to share more but this blog is already getting so long, so maybe next time. ^^"

there was also one system i was eyeing for a wizards au but it uses a multi-dice pool system. it's called kids on brooms. but if i somehow manage to hack it to be like blades in the dark, i'll make another blog post. but that would be in the far future. i'm still hacking blades in the dark to make something suitable for pirate adventures.

that's all! i don't personally know many people here who would be interested in this, but i'm just glad to share this info in case there are some who have also been craving a ttrpg experience on rpr.

to me, these are some interesting ideas. i've even had similar ones. ngl though i'd say 99% of users on the site (and others, tbr) would rather rehash the same they've been doing than try stuff like this. idk why, but that's just how it's been up til now. if you really want to do something like this though (since you mentioned be excited for it), i say go for it and keep speaking about it more in case you find more people who share this interest. would be cool to see!
