I'm too lazy to write out a full background so I'll just do some dot point summarising; I didn't want to keep this portion of Myungsoo's profile empty for too long.

— Myungsoo is the (currently) single child of Kim Myunghoon, former competitive swimmer and highly decorated Olympian for South Korea, and Lee Sooyoung, former Olympian for the South Korean diving team, a hell of a legacy to uphold and one that he's determined to honour; despite how hard it may be.

— Kim Myunghoon is/was(context is important) one of the best swimmers in South Korean and in general, was considered top ten in the world during his prime in the 80's and 90's. With 12 Olympic medals under his belt and was a world record holder for the 200m relay, it's no wonder that Myunghoon has such high hopes for his son.

— Kim neé Lee Sooyoung doesn't hold quite the illustrious career her husband does but her accomplishments are no small feat. With 2 silver and 1 bronze medals to her name in 3m solo and synchronised springboard diving, Sooyoung was a popular beauty with the talent to boot back in 80s South Korea; she was somewhat of a minor celebrity(an 'influencer' back then really) but had the talent to back it up.

— They moved from South Korea to Miami, Florida, when Myungsoo was five years old; both Myunghoon and Sooyoung had received lucrative career opportunities in coaching now that both adults were retired from their sporting careers, at the time, the move seemed like the right idea. Myungsoo was a bright little boy, curious about the world and wanting to do everything and anything. As is fairly typical with moving to the otherside of the world, the young family initially struggled to intergrate but settled by the time Myungsoo was seven. They loved the warm weather and carefree lifestyle that Miami offered, even if Myunghoon and Sooyoung didn't exactly live the 'beach bum' lifestyle; they still followed strict exercise and diet regimenes, followed airtight daily schedules and refused to let himself grow slack in their aging.

— It was an unspoken guarantee that Myungsoo would take up swimming, after his father, though Sooyoung had briefly introduced him to the world of diving, his father quickly squashed that idea and insisted that he would be a swimmer.

— Myungsoo was almost always in the water but when he turned eight, his play-time would turn into lessons into drills into relay practices. His father was his coach, which some may have thought would be a blessing; after all, who else to know his limits then his parent? Somebody who he was around all the time! Myungsoo couldn't have agreed more, even if Myunghoon was more like a drill sergeant both in the pool and out of it.

Arrogant Boy.

— He was competing in national competitions by the time he was eleven, though Myungsoo wouldn't win until he was thirteen; the disappointment at each loss was palpable in the Kim home so when he finally, finally came first, Myungsoo was elated. He adored the feeling of satisfaction, gratification and praise he received from others and knew he'd do anything to keep that high in his life.

— His competitive career took off over the next few years(excluding a brief stint when he was 18 after slipping on a pool edge and breaking his arm) and Myungsoo dedicated his life to the pool. He loved everything to do with swimming, not just the winning part of it, and he knew that this was what he wanted to dedicate his life too. Myungsoo was far from the perfect swimmer but he was a consistently high-ranking contender and a strong candidate for the olympics.

Rich Boys have no hearts.

— He did receive an offer to compete in the olympics following his high school graduation but Myungsoo declined in favour for attending IOU; he wanted to practice with and compete against the best of the best in his age group, but also desired the university experience while he was an 'appropriate' age. His parents weren't happy with his decision but couldn't deny that his logic was somewhat understandable; after all, IOU churned out Olympic gold and silver medallists, world famous atheletes, etc., every year. Why couldn't Myungsoo also be a part of that prestigious alumni? And so they agreed to let him attend under some strict rules.

myungsoo's typical day can look like the below:

• 5:00 to 7:30am, Mon - Fri Swim practice.
  Saturday will be 7:00 - 8:00am.
  Sunday is rest day.
• 7:30 to 9:30am Showering and general 'get ready' for the day routines; breakfast, getting lecture notes ready, etc, will fall within this 2 hour block.
• 9:30am to 4:30pm, Mon - Fri Will vary depending on his course schedule and time of the semester. Being in the medical department means a heavier work load so most days will have multi-hour classes with some breaks in between
• 4:30 to 8:30pm, Mon - Fri Studying, hanging out with friends, eating dinner, etc. He will have a 45 to 60 minute call with his parents during this time.
• 8:30 to 10:00pm, Mon - Fri Back in the pool for at least an hour for more practise OR will be in the gym.
• 10:30 to 11:30pm, Mon - Fri Gaming or catching up on last minute daily activities
• Saturdays & Sundays are more flexible and will be spent either studying, in the pool, hanging out on the beach or doing other hobbies.

— Lamai Chaichana was born into a rather poor family in Bangkok, Thailand. Her father, Thiphawit Chaichana, worked as a part-time farmhand and part-time professional gambler(and by 'professional gambler', Lamai means that he played cards with his friends a lot and sometimes won meagre winnings) and her mother, Anchalee neé Pawityakul Chaichana, was a stay at home mother who occasionally provided assistance at the local cafes when money was particularly tight. Lamai grew up surrounded by siblings; with three older brothers, a younger sister and an even younger brother.

— Life, even as a little girl, was difficult for Lamai, who was immediately aware of the expectations placed on her as the oldest daughter of the Chaichana family. Althought it was never spoken outright, Lamai had duties she was expected(and taught) to perform that she noticed her brothers, or even her sister, would not have to do. Things like cleaning up after her siblings, getting them ready for the day while her parents were out working, she had to give up her education for a time so that her brothers could go to school. She did this without complaining, genuinely wanting to help her family out; after all, it wasn't like she was treated a slave. She was able to form friendships in her youth, go out and play, she returned to school a year later and more. This molded Lamai into the kindhearted, caring young woman that she is today but it also left its mark.

— From her early years, Lamai flitted from hobby to hobby, imagining what her life would be like as a professional car racer, a seamstress, a sous chef, even a stripper at one point, but she never seemed to settle. There were two things that seemed to capture her attention long enough for her parents to encourage her to pursue them; art and, surprisingly, gymnastics. 

— Although her love of art was much stronger, gymnastics was an unexpected hobby; one she picked up from watching the 2004 Summer Olympics through the window of a electronic store and she was captured by the organic artwork created by the gymnasts. It had never ocurred to Lamai that you could make artwork with your body and from that day on, she was sold. She would scour Bangkok for gymnasiums that would allow her to practise; often sneaking in and watching from the shadows, she would usually get caught and chased out until a kind woman allowed her stay.

— By some of luck, she was allowed to attend classes in exchange for doing the clean up afterwards and assisting around the gym without pay. Lamai thought that was a fair enough trade as she knew her parents couldn't afford the classes. She blossomed, proving to be a natural gymnast and by her mid to late teens, she was competing locally in ribbon.

— Her parents.. well, they were supportive, if a little blindsided when they found out about their daughters hobby but they came around after some time. They struggled to convince themselves that this could be a career, and wanted Lamai to focus on her studies; not on her gymnastics or her artwork. Honestly, her brothers were all lost causes; getting into seedy high-risk but high reward situations, falling into alcoholism or drug use, and her sister.. Well, her sister was fine, if a little careless. So they put all their hopes of getting out of poverty on Lamai.

— They expected the works: for her to look after the family(as a good daughter should), to spend as much time studying so that she could get into unversity, to marry well, to be beautiful, to study a lucrative focus such as law or, as they would come to push, medicine.

— Lamai was nothing but an excellent daughter but even she had her limits. She began to burn out, feeling like she was being pulled in a million directions, until, one day, she received a letter in the mail after her end of year exams at university.

— Although Lamai had not competed in any competitive sense since starting university, her track record was enough for IOU to consider her for a full-ride scolarship in the major of her choice if she was still able to perform to her full capacity for the university. Well, Lamai couldn't do anything but jump at the chance, much to the chagrin and unhappy judgement from her family.

— But this was the one opportunity, Lamai told them, to study at a prestigious university; one that would let her get a high paying position at any hospital in the world; they could move to America, to Australia, even France! and have a better life. That sealed the deal and they agreed to ship her off.

— The thing was though: Lamai had an entirely different plan. No, she wouldn't abandon her family, not in a million years, but for the first time in her life... She was free. Free of familial duties, of gender expectations, she could be who she wanted. But that was when Lamai came to a horrible realisation: who was she?
