Greeting,

So, I'm new here to this site, heard about it from a friend, though I'm not new to roleplaying, have done so in years now.
If any of you would be kind enough to give me a few tips about how this website work and how I start roleplaying, I would be most grateful.

Have a nice day & thanks a lot
Oxy

hey, welcome to the site! here's a few tips to make your transition here a little easier:

ㅤㅤrequesting and applying for characters.
1. read through the rp's description page since that is likely to hold everything you need to know about the place and the rules. the rules page is sometimes used to put the rp's description + rules in a mobile friendly version. sometimes that's not the case.
2. check the masterlist to see if the character you would like is taken or not. in a roleplay where real names are used, it's much easier to check. in an au roleplay where oc names are used, there will be a faceclaim directory somewhere.
3. comment on the bottom of the roleplay to request the character you'd like. as an example, some roleplays have a format to follow. make sure to favorite the roleplay since that is usually a mandatory rule + upvote to show support, though the latter is not always needed.
4. once the admin adds your character and responds to your comment, apply for your requested character with the application they provide on the description page and fill in what is needed.

ㅤㅤgeneral notes about how people approach to write.
as someone who has been on the site for over ten years already, there have been many changes throughout the course of its history. within the recent two years or so, non-au roleplays have been primarily chat based. there is some roleplaying/writing that goes on but it's not as common. there are a select few that really encourage writing so if you're more of a writer than chatter, those are a real gem. as of recent, there have been pretty amazing au roleplays that have many literate writers and spicy threads. i'm currently at ilhwa, a bridgerton inspired joseon roleplay, and thoroughly enjoy it. there is another au roleplay called pyeogyo, a modern royalty & military fantasy roleplay, that was built with the inspiration of atla.

• don't be afraid to reach out to others to write. that's usually done by private messaging the character and asking if they would like to write/plot. not to be confused with private messaging the actual user, which i wouldn't do unless they're specifically looking for a private roleplay. i feel like there's a bunch of us who are scared to approach each other because of whatever reasons (main one being intimidated because of great writing) but honestly, we're all just humans here and need to get over it. me included lol. in my case, i have asked others despite being intimated and i've ended up with amazing writing partners and threads!

• as for a detailed profile about your character, that is usually done in an au roleplay. many use this site called padlet because it's so easy to use and it's easy on the eyes. others use carrd which can be beautiful but i cannot for the life of me, figure out how to use it. props to those who can, i'd love to learn someday. there are also users on this site who code profiles that are great as well! you can find a bunch if you hover over the roleplays tag at the top, click browse topics, and search the layouts tags. be sure to post a link to your profile in your character's roleplayrepublic profile. you can do that by editing your character and linking it to a word or pasting the entire link. the button to link it to a word or picture kinda looks like a paperclip.

• when choosing a display picture for your characters, be sure to use one that's from tumblr, whether you find it there or upload it there. imgur also works. for aesthetic purposes due to new roleplayrepublic coding, the chatrooms normally show the pictures as icons in the chatrooms so many use icons. honestly, it's up to you and your preference, i wouldn't bother too much about it.

ㅤㅤfinding new roleplays.
• many users post blogs about the roleplays they are currently in or are making. some are reservation blogs and those are sometimes done to ensure there is enough interest in a place. within the recent years, roleplays here do not last long at all. most non-au roleplays have a lifespan of a month but some have been changing that up and lasting longer, which is always great to see!! au roleplays tend to last awhile longer.
• your best bet to find an active roleplay is to hover over the roleplays tags at the top and click latest active.

i'm probably missing a lot of information but this is what i could think of off the top of my head. anyways, i hope you enjoy your time here! i'll link a few roleplays that i recommend below. some are places i've taken apart of and others are places that caught my eye. there are also a bunch out there that i haven't listed below so i recommend looking through the latest active and newest roleplays.

helloooo, welcome to the site!!! honestly, i have myself returned after a long hiatus, so not sure how things go here anymore… but basically, you join rps, and apply as a character, and you’ll have like different “rooms” that you can send messages in, depending on how the rp is set up
and you can also apply for multiple characters! so when you’re posting in a room (aka channel, if you’re familiar with discord notation) then you can choose which character you would like to post from :)
