Are you from Tumblr, used it before? Question for you.

Good afternoon, I'm making a blog because I've been seeing users, new and old make comments about Tumblr 'going down hill', 'it is so toxic' and other negative comments yet not one that I've seen ever elaborates on why. If you're from that format, I genuinely want feedback on what you're experiencing that makes the space so awful. I've been on and off over the years with Tumblr, and found the toxicity right here on RpR is way worse than the other format.

Some known issues on Tumblr that I am aware of that I've dealt with or seen:

The website is constantly updating and changing and breaking our beloved xkit, which was an extension for Tumblr that allowed you to reply to a post and trim your previous reply so you didn't have a Santa list like share of posts on dash. The website is 'hard to rp there'. I did digging that took me all of about five minutes to download xkit rewritten, and have Trim which fixes the problem.

An intolerance for RPF. Real person fiction. RPR is as a whole does RPF fiction with the rare exception of places that are OC here, where you are not playing a character with the same name as the actual person. There's a wikipedia page about it that shares it's widely frowned upon, that link right here. So I'm not sure if people are having their bubble bursted when they leave the safety of RPR or what.

Playing as Korean Idols. This goes hand in hand with RPF. There was also a looong span of time and it's still used today, the use of a race by tag. Kpop rp, krp to name a few. Majority of, that know if it, Koreans have expressed discomfort in the use of having a race specific tag, and feel disrespected let alone if you put anything else in front of it, it's racist. White male rp, white indie rp, black rp, you get the picture. The use of krp as a tag is also believed to express izing a specific race, and that's kind of weird. I can see where people would get that feeling. (People do rp korean face claims on Tumblr, i have several partners that play them, as well as other asian backgrounds, they just dont play as an idol and dont use the real name of the faceclaim.)

Bullying. I've seen someone 8 years ago get bullied off the platform because she was engaging in non-con with a consenting writer. Someone came across the blog or someone who was a mututal of someone else went and seen it and claimed my friend who was writing the non-con condoned which is the biggest line of BS I've ever seen. lol However, the bullying effected her greatly and despite my efort as her friend to tell her how to handle and block people so she wouldn't be attacked (because the block does something on tumblr verses here) she personally couldnt handle it, and left. Outside of that one experience, I've never seen it. I've experience some hatred many years ago in my ask box, but if i take off the option to go anon and 'leave hate', it magically stops because noone wants to be seen when talking. So, I've found this to be a very easy fix.

tumblr was my first rp platform and actually introduced me to the world that is roleplay. i loved it on tumblr. pretty profiles, unlimited muses, so many opportunities. open threads are actually replied to. the least amount of ooc drama i’ve had and also hardly met anyone who is basically themselves with a fc slapped over them. i just find the constant changing so irritating for me especially since i left for so long. replying and everything else seemed so much easier. now it’s just an annoyance. all of my friends on tumblr left as well. i came back around when the whole krp tag hate came along and i was like. okay. but i found that no one replied to my open starters. so that . ended up leaving. as for rpr – i recently came back in february so i can’t say much since i haven’t been here since 2018. but i really love it here. i’m not close to anyone but i like to read peoples threads and dabble in small communication. unfortunately there are a lot of blogs about how much they dislike it here and it makes me fear the worst since my best friends irl are people i met through rp. i don’t wanna go through that drama again. anyway. i think of tumblr very fondly. but old tumblr rp.

So I rp on both formats because I find there to be more creative inclusivity of characters you can rp as on tumblr compared to here, and just overall more people are actually active when it comes to writing with others. Besides that, I'm not having any issues? I do think Tumblr stresses having more creativity with having OC's instead of RPF, and I actually do like having OC's most of the time! I haven't experienced any bullying and I've never witnessed it in any of the rp's that I've been in. I honestly think it depends on the people who you decide to associate yourself with. My entire time on Tumblr has been more chill and more expansiveness for creativity than on here which is sad because RPR has a great format for the creation of rp's and character interaction compared to Tumblr.
