she was slave to the rhythm, a pirouetting mess, and her harshest critic. if she was half a second too slow, she would repeat the brise that made her falter twenty more times until she got it right; until she could no longer shame her mother's memory or her austere instructor. there was no time for love or family - indeed, she had none - and to be anything but the best would not pay her tuition. dance, something once revered and enjoyed - the colour of her life - turned gray and demanding, a means to an end.
she struggled with the restraints enforced upon her: she was too fat, too short, too much of everything and never good enough. one slip up would result in being cut.
she continued like this much until the end of university, where one recital became the turning point of her life. her friend, a fellow ballerina, had been preparing to dance the solo piece that day. at the last minute, the instructor demanded that she replace the girl - there was a renowned ballerina in their midst, and india was the best in the troupe. but india, for the first time in her life, refused. there was no honour in recognition gained by theft; and though this sense of honour resulted in her being slapped and shamed in front of her peers, the freedom of that one moment changed her..

india possesses a warm and kind disposition, given to easy laughter, sarcasm and oft inappropriate jokes. that being said, she can be serious when the situation calls for it, and prides herself on her ability to provide sage counsel. due to her rigid and unforgiving life as a ballerina, she developed an impulsive streak that's manifested in the various tattoos upon her body, as well as a smoking habit that she's currently trying to curb with her trusty electronic cigarette (humorously dubbed michael.) she has a pet samoyed called fluff, and enjoys being around little children and people younger than her in general.
