》― history !
Live long enough doing a dangerous job like hunting vampires and you’ll usually end up gaining a reputation. Most hunters don’t make it past the age of twenty five, so Hakyun is already a bit of an outlier there. Even stranger is the fact that he works alone. Perhaps it’s some sort of God-given miracle that he’s still breathing today, though he would like to think it’s at least a testament to his skill.

He started hunting at an early age, just seventeen years old and grieving in the wake of his entire family being massacred by a local vampire clan. Back then he was young and stupid, too rash, too hateful, making him an easy target. He only managed to subdue and kill most of his enemies because he was (idiotically) tenacious and somewhat (ingeniously) resourceful, but his approach to hunting was messy and left tracks easily followed. And because of this, it was only a matter of time before someone, or something caught up to him.

Hakyun chose his targets based on one criteria alone - vampires that were actively killing and wreaking havoc among human communities. It didn’t matter how big or small the vampire was, if they were rich or poor, strong or weak. He would take any job with the promise of seeing it through. Call it arrogance, call it determination, or whatever you wish; Hakyun will tell you that it was monumentally stupid. No pun intended, but the young Shin Hakyun at twenty three had bitten off more than he could chew when deciding to go after a powerful vampire that had taken control of a small town.

To make a long story short, that particular mission ended with a loss, a bite and a branding. It was the first time Hakyun had ever had a vampire’s fangs in his neck. To this day he doesn’t know why he was spared either. Left alive, but just barely.

It was a long recovery in which he spent the better part of a year holed up in a small town hospital, his wounds and biding his time. There was a new addition to the hunter’s agenda besides just killing troublesome vampires. He also wanted to find the vampire that had managed to best him, and leave him permanently scarred.

From then on Hakyun’s life passed in much the same fashion as it did before his small resting period. He delved back into the hunting life as soon as he was able, only this time he was smarter about it. Gone were the days of an immature, flailing hunter getting away by the skin of his teeth. He was stronger, faster, better than the best and then some. His arrogance had tempered, though it’s definitely still there, the type of arrogance that one earns from doing this as long as he has. He even managed to track down that irritating, powerful vampire several times later on, and those fights became a bit addicting in their spectacularity.

Only recently has Hakyun made true contact with the Blood Farms. He usually steered clear away from them as much as possible, focusing more on external vampiric forces across the country than internal ones. But when asked by a family to retrieve their daughter from within the facility, and having no other pressing missions to attend to, Hakyun decided to enroll himself as a donor as a way to get inside. He’s good at hiding in plain sight, good at acting a certain way at certain times, and so he has yet to be caught in the few months that he’s been here. But there’s always a chance that that might change. Only time will tell.
》― personality & details  !
— As mentioned above, there is one vampire that truly managed to essentially beat Hakyun into submission (momentarily, that is). However, even though this vampire had the upper hand and could have easily ended his life, they spared Hakyun. To this day he does not know the reason why.

— As mentioned above, the vampire that bested him also left him marked. A large tattoo-like drawing of a bleeding crescent moon on Hakyun's back, created through a bizarre mesh of scars and magic, created by vampiric venom and sharp talons. He supposes he should perhaps thank them for it, as this "tattoo" is how he ended up getting his hunter name: Eclipse. (He never came up with the name himself. Certain vampires and hunters just started using it, and it somehow stuck, but Hakyun isn't complaining too much because it certainly makes his job easier.)

— Hakyun makes a point of not associating his real name with his hunter title. It's an extra part of his arsenal to not be recognized by most humans and vampires. The only way they would know who he is is if he admitted to it, or they managed to see the symbol on his back.

— Because he doesn't go around calling himself "Eclipse the Hunter," when he is in hunter circles they usually just see him as a bit of a crazy lunatic past his prime who probably shouldn't be allowed to hold weapons. Hakyun uses this misconception to his advantage whenever needed.

His preferred weapons are:
     • Two (2) silver long daggers
     • Handgun (w/ silver encased blackthorn bullets)
     • and pretty much anything he can get his hands
on to incapacitate and kill a vampire

— Although it was mentioned above that he uses the "crazy old guy" misconception to his advantage, it is also not an untruth. Most people would call him bat on a good day, and Hakyun is well-aware that he's honestly, pretty severely ed in the head.

— While undercover as a donor Hakyun is an indirect feeder. He'd rather not have a random vampire's fangs in his neck, thank you very much.

— He has quite a bit of interesting knowledge about vampires and ways to subdue, hurt and kill them. There are also quite a few inventions of his own that he uses when hunting, which contribute to a certain "style" of his killings that people recognize. Some examples of this include:
     • Using the diluted venom of a vampire the same
way one would use perfume, and applying it to
all seven (7) pulse points. This temporarily masks
the human scent of the user, allowing them to
pass by under the guise of a fellow vampire.
     • Combining the right mixture of blackthorn and
other herbs, one can create a drug that causes
a vampire to enter a temporary deep sleep state.
Other concoctions include a holly and blackthorn
hallucinogenic, and a secret recipe of his that
      can temporarily hypnotize a vampire.

》― scenarios & connections !
(mutually assured destruction) *taken, yeo jingoo
vampire // preferably 24+ fc
you’re the one that managed to almost destroy hakyun 25 years prior, and ever since then have maintained a volatile, violent and antagonistic relationship with him as you two would come across each other from time to time. it’s addicting. most of your meetings end in bloodshed, with either hakyun on the floor bathed in his own blood, or you gasping around blackthorn-laced air and littered with silver-stained wounds. to this day hakyun still doesn’t know why you spared him all those years ago, and you have yet to tell him the answer.

good in bed // dua lipa
heat // l.a. rose

(savior?) *taken, odessa (+ kinda jeon somi)
human // preferably donor, female
a few months ago hakyun was tasked by your family to find you in the blood farm facility and bring you back home. neither he nor your family know yet the true reasons for why you’re here in the first place. it wasn’t until now that hakyun had even found you, but do you want to leave, or are you dead set on staying?

*odessa = true target
* somi = mistaken target

(rookie mistake)
human // preferably donor
you’re either a regular human donor, or an extremely novice hunter, but somehow, someway, you manage to recognize hakyun for the extremely prolific hunter that he is. you’ve got a bad case of hero worship, and decide that you want hakyun to teach you how to be a good hunter, a mentor figure of sorts. he only agrees in order to keep you quiet from exposing his true identity, though he may be regretting that a bit once he realizes how terrible you are at this. have you even held a knife before in your life?

(scratch my back, i’ll scratch yours)
vampire // rogue
it’s by accident that you find out hakyun is a hunter, but in the same course of events he also finds out that you’re not exactly a vampire working in the blood farm’s favor. in order to keep both of your true intentions a secret the two of you strike up a temporary alliance. you won’t say anything about hakyun, he won’t say anything about you, and sometimes you two help each other if you feel like it. now if only you weren’t so ing irritating.

(long lost, same & different)
vampire // rogue or regular
30 years ago hakyun lost what he thought to be his entire family. what he did not realize is that in the bloody aftermath, you were still alive, but just barely. enough that when a vampire came through the carnage they saw and turned you, but hakyun was already long gone by that point. somehow, despite being the same country, you two have never crossed paths again until now. but what does the hunter feel when he realizes his only other surviving family member is now the very thing that he kills?
》― out of character !
1
To get some basic OOC info out of the way: hi! My name is Melo, you can address me by that or as my character(s). Either is fine. I live in GMT-5/EST, and I also work part-time five days a week, so Sun-Thurs you'll really only see me in the mornings, or popping into the chat in the evenings when I have down time.
2
When it comes to POV Preferences I really only use 3rdPOV - ranging from semi, para and novella. The longer the post the longer it does take for me to respond. Some of my replies take at the very least a few hours to a day, sometimes up to a week.
3
I do prefer plotting over winging simply because it gives me more confidence when interacting with my partners, but winging is also fine with me! When I'm really full of muse I tend to post random starters as well, so if they haven't been claimed by anyone else, you don't even need to ask before responding! (Unless you plan on involving rated M and/or potentially triggering topics, in which case, yes, please PM me.)
4
Please do not "poke" me for a reply. As I mentioned above I do work so I might be busy, or I may have lost some muse for our plot. I don't forget replies. You may reach out to me after two (2) weeks of no response, though that's an extreme case and I most likely would have notified you not to expect a response, or let you know that I no longer have muse for our plot.
5
On the topic of romance/, I don't roleplay these genres with people outside of those that I am very comfortable with, so please don't ask to plot such things with me. (This may also apply to certain rated M/triggering topics.)
6
Recently I have decided that I will be taking 1 to 2 day breaks a week from roleplaying in order to let myself rest, because lately I've been pushing myself too hard and getting close to burnout. I may still show up and make replies if I'm feeling up to it, but in general don't expect much from me on Sundays and Thursdays.
