Humans
A variety of selected humans was allowed into the City when
it was first built. They reproduced and soon the population
of humans was as big as that of merfolk. Humans born in
the City have never seen the world outside of the ocean,
but usually have no real desire to. They have no special
powers and can't survive out in the water like mermaids
can, but can go on diving trips with them if they have the
right equipment. All original human settlers have died due to old age.
Mermaids
Merpeople live much longer than humans do, though their appearance stays young. When they touch saltwater, their
legs immediately turn into a fishtail, and once they are
dried off, they look human again. Some mermaids are friendly with humans and are willing to ignore everything that happened in the past. Others are very untrusting and take a long time and a lot of convincing to become friends with humans. They never complain that humans are living
in their city, though, since there has never been any conflict since the building of the City and the humans are very kind. Most of the original mermaid settlers are still alive.
