In the void of the universe, a creature of darkness reigns over the abyss. Its name is Death.
Death rules all of the underworld and everything in it, including the dead. Still, Life, a most vivacious thing meandered into the realm Death presided over. And Light, joined her journey, too. They had seen how too many people die without ever fulfilling their lives and so they escaped from the other gods to create a haven of their own.
Together, they stole souls from Death which angered the ruler. The gods weren’t disturbed at what the Lady and the Lord had done but under Death’s laws, it was illegal to steal souls. He felt like he was cheated as the dead shouldn’t be meddled with for it broke the rules of nature. The souls they took were the Duke and Duchess, which infuriated Death even more as they were his children. So Death put the Lady and the Lord on trial.
A trial was made for the deities so that they can prove themselves unworthy of Death’s wrath. But, as they were already in the process of creating purgatory, the Lord and Lady weren’t able to finish their tasks in the given time.
It was only then that the Duke and the Duchess pleaded to their father to let the Lord and the Lady go as they liked purgatory and the life it has given them. They asked for them to stay. And Death agreed.
But under one condition.
Once the purgatory was made, everyone who is to enter must first pass Death’s judgment, and only then will they be able to be escorted by the Duke and Duchess to the Lord and Lady. From then on they will be given new identities and brought to whichever town they wish to go to.
The middle is the main capital of the purgatory where most of the souls are taken. When a soul successfully finishes all of the deeds, they will peacefully pass on.
Now, you are given another chance.
