SOLARIA'S PLOT
there once was a time before the sun and moon. a time in which there were two lovers, haesik and dalnim, who shone bright enough to illuminate the whole cosmos. with their warmth they brought lovely children, to populate the earth and cherish their brilliance shining down on them.

but with all the children brought friction, as mother dalnim became distracted from his duties of shining brightly so that he may go down to earth and teach his kids properly. however, haesik still had to work arduously to keep the world bright.

when dalnim returned to the cosmos they began to fight, causing terrible storms on earth and scaring their unsettled children. dalnim and haesik soon pushed each other too far: followers of dalnim say that his lover threw him to the floor, while followers of haesik say in his own tantrum he fell and became broken, but the results were the same. dalnim shattered into a million tiny pieces, his illuminate exterior becoming the stars in the sky while his dim form became the moon.

with this tragedy, they split apart from each other, with haesik coming out in the day and dalnim at night, only meeting twice a day and never being allowed to reunify despite their hearts still belonging to each other. and so their children also split, becoming a solar and lunar clan respectively.

in each version of the story, the sun and moon still love each other dearly, but there are forces beyond themselves that force them apart to keep the peace. perhaps this is why both clans are the strongest during sunrise and sunset, the moments where their power is unified, and are the weakest during thunderstorms, when the sun and moon are in disagreement.

now the year is 1835, with over a thousand years of confusion, evolution, and misinformation separating the two clans, with everyone seeming to have some variation on how the moon and sun split away and why.

however, during the rare times when an eclipse occurs, both packs put aside their differences and have a momentary armistice to celebrate the sun and the moon reuniting. that is where our story begins.

SIGNIFICANT HISTORICAL EVENTS

1835 Lunar Eclipse Festival commences. A temporary armistice is put into place so that both packs may enjoy the festivities without the threat of impending doom. On the final night, a grand ball is hosted at the Solar palace, with high ranking members of both packs in attendance. Prince Seungcheol finds his drink was poisoned and suspects Lunar foul play. Though rather than outwardly calling the Chieftain out with unfounded claims, he decides to confront Hoseok. For even though the two are sworn enemies, they have always respected each other's strength on the battle field. Hoseok insists he wouldn't risk his people's safety by breaking the truce and though the Prince has no proof but his word, he believes him because the Chieftain has always put his people first. Hoseok also tells Seungcheol that his people do not dabble with slow and covert manners of killing their enemies like Solar people might and warns the prince that he should watch who he trusts.

However, in spite of the two leaving on amiacable terms, word still gets out about the assassination attempt and Hoseok is seized at dawn after returning to Lunar lands. The Prince is shocked to find out about Hoseok being arrested and goes to see him in his cell the night prior to when his trial is to take place. It seems unfair that his formidable foe would be put to death in such an... unglorious fashion. Knowing it could very well be the last time they speak, the two talk about their true desire for peace between the packs, that they don't want to see their people suffer anymore, and realize that perhaps they aren't so different...

During the meeting, Hoseok becomes ill and realizes too late that his heat is setting in. The two wolves accidentally bond in an intense moment of passion, only to realize as it wanes that they've both made a damning mistake. Prince Seungcheol breaks Hoseok out of prison, driven partially by a blind desire to protect his now-mate but also the reality that if Hoseok is killed that it would mean the Solar army would wipe out his pack, and the two try to come up with a plan to avoid war.

The two sneakily release an announcement of their union to the press and it is plastered all over Solaria proper by morning, thus tying the hands of the Solar parliment from moving forward with the planned execution. Though their bond is not built on genuine love, Seungcheol and Hoseok move forward with obtaining the blessing of both religious leaders in their packs, seeing their union as an opportunity to potentially create lasting peace.

However, unbeknownst to them, something nefarious works in secret. The Cult of the Eternal Dawn, comprised of a collective of high ranking officials who profit off the continued war between the packs, has begun planning how to thwart their plans. They have been manipulating the rulers of Solar for generations, including the current King. They are responsible for the murder of Prince Seungcheol's mother, the attempt on his life the night of the Eclipse Festival, and Hoseok's injustified capture.

Months go by with Hoseok slowly and begrudgingly learning of Solar customs, while hiding his unplanned pregnancy from the Prince. However, the Cult has already begun to manipulate and poison Seungcheol against him. Prior to their bonding, the Prince had been set to marry an omega of their choosing and they are not so easily swayed by the unintentional bond between him and a Lunar barbarian. After a fight between the couple, Hoseok flees back to Lunar lands and is immediately pursued by Seungcheol.

In both of their absence, the current King is poisoned by the Cult and this forces Seungcheol to return to assume the throne. Tension continues to build between him and Hoseok as Seungcheol's advisors put pressure on him to subjugate their rival pack and abandon the bond with his Lunar "concubine". However, Seungcheol refuses and promptly "falls ill" after his coronation. The Cult refuses to let Hoseok see him or even enter the castle.

Then, suddenly, a wedding is announced between Seungcheol and his former betrothed. Even though the Prince hasn't been seen, plans for the ceremony move forward. However, on the day of, there is an attack supposedly by Lunar radicals. It is said that the Prince is killed and someone from the Cult rises to power to claim the throne. The Lunar pack is forced to flee deeper into the mountains as the Solar army burns their forest to ashes. They are accompanied by some Solar defectors as well who do not agree with the war.

Hoseok tries his best to overcome his grief and focus on ensuring the survival of his pack. With limited supplies, it doesn't seem like they will last long in the frigid climate. Yet as hope begins to fade, a barely alive Prince Seungcheol suddenly appears, having barely escaped the Cult's clutches. The Shaman nurses him back to health while he and Hoseok plan how to wrest control back from the Cult. They realize that appealing to the people is the best thing they can do, as many of them are suffering caught in the senseless war.

Sneaking into Solaria proper, the members of the resistance seek sanctuary in the temple of Haeshik where they make plans to seize the castle. They are able to sneak in through a series of hidden tunnels and overthrow the Cult, once more placing Prince Seungcheol on the throne. A treaty is immediately drafted between the Solar and Lunar packs, ushering in an era of peace after centuries of mindless war.
