Chan would've said hiking was easy but it wasn't. It wasn't one bit. He had only been trekking for ten minutes but his legs had already ached and his shirt had stuck to his torso. Holding his compound bow didn't help either. The arrows inconspicuously stashed in his clothes kept poking his armpit, prodding him to move along. It was not fun at all. If anything, it was torture. Okay, maybe Chan was being a whiny demigod again but it couldn't be helped! He didn't like camp. Or nature. Or trekking. He's not Demeter's son. He's not Ares'. Why can't he just stay at home or visit the beach? Heck, he'll even settle for an opera show.
A soft beep stopped Chan from walking. It was break time. He would've dropped to the rocky ground if it weren't for the little circular tunnel he saw.
"Finally! I was beginning to think my mom was just getting rid of me." After checking for signs of mortals and finding none, he dashed into the tunnel.
The dimly lit tunnel began to shimmer like a hologram. And by the end of it, the view changed. The shrubby greens had become stone walls and a gate had appeared in front of him. Chan thought that if he had ran faster he could've slammed himself between the iron bars. That would be painful.
"Uh, knock knock?" Chan peeked through the gate and saw noone. "Huh...open sesame!" He threw his arms in the air like a magician. Nothing happened.
"Okay! I guess I'll try again next year." Chan began to walk away but whispering caught his ears.
"A god?"
"No, he doesn't look strong. And look at his weapon."
"A human? They can't be here."
"No, a demigod. Lord Apollo's son, maybe?"
"Yeah, that's right. I am." Chan nocked an arrow. A collective gasp and some more whispering went on. "Who and where are you?"
"The password. The password you must say the password."
"What password?" Chan held his bow loosely. Maybe shooting randomly wasn't the best option right now. "Tell me."
More whispering. Luckily Chan could make out what they were saying.
"Aperiro portas libero?"
"It's not a question, boy!"
"Aperiro portas libero!"
The gate creaked open and Chan could hear the voices fade away. "What was that about?"
He walked in where his new life would begin.
