TLDR: a dude would experiment on mutants and long story short, this muse is one of the ones he experimented on AND also his assistant mutant who helped him with experiments. in turn, they started experimenting on mutants themself, at first to help somewhat undo the effects of previous experimentation, but they got this whole scientific curiosity thing to them now. and as a natural tinkerer, they kinda feel like this could be their calling or something idk. this is based on an old character i had. thinking their powers would be something to do with creation or modification. either that or maybe they amplify things. idk, it's up to you, but this is an idea i had for a character.

A fairly young, high-ranking researcher at The Archon's Gate Institution. Has a lot of subjects within the facility and primarily works with troubled youth and all manner of damaged individuals. One thing they all have in common?—they're all pretty—effeminate, soft-faced, and almost doll-like, making The Artifex the most picky out of all major researchers in the institution. This character is also morally gray, but he's got some genuine love and kindness in there somewhere—you just gotta figure out how to get to it. Manipulative. A little crazy in the head. Has a very twisted understanding of helping people improve or be better versions of themselves (hence the treating people like dolls part). Did I mention poor Snow Angel is obsessed with this guy? (it's basically a researcher x subject kind of dynamic, really)

it’s not like puppeteer hates you (well, he doesn’t exactly like you either) and wants you on death row, but you’ve been the toughest case to crack during his years as a hero, and somehow his employer has never thought of assigning someone else after you and instead sends puppeteer off to deal with you on a regular basis. your fights never end with a decisive victory on either end, though, and every trouble you cause is pretty much guaranteed overtime work for puppeteer as he has to at least clean up after your mess. he’s tired, you’re (probably, or not) tired, and the best part about his resignation is that he’d never have to see you ever again. at least, that’s what he thought—he runs into you again a few years later, either by chance or because you’ve been a menace while he’s gone and now someone else needs his help to fight you. it’s about time you settle the score, isn’t it?

in the artifex's desperate attempts to bring back his beloved snow angel, he had promised a hefty sum of money to anyone that could bring him back unharmed. it took quite a bit of effort to track and follow him around considering he moved around like a nomad, but you've finally managed to corner him into an alley one night, just as he was coming off duty. this could either go two ways:
for heroes, or hero-leaning outers: unaware of the artifex's true personality—and simply moved by the almost pitiful request he had that made it sound as if it were just a simple lover's quarrel that had sent snow angel running—you try convincing him, at first. gently coaxing him using the artifex's concerns, all of which were painful memories you were unknowingly uttering to one of his former subjects. the alarms go off in his head immediately, and it does nothing but make him more suspicious of you and your intentions. but perhaps you can try to make sense of the situation before the already-threatened angel decides to give you frostbite.
for villains, or villain-leaning outers: judging by his code name, one could have assumed you were going after a runaway child. whatever they were, it didn't really matter. you needed the money, all you had to do was bring the artifex's harmless little angel back safely, right? wrong—because snow angel was, in fact, not a child or a harmless little angel at all. you'd learned that the hard way when you decided to be a little too threatening in your approach once, and ice had immediately splintered in your direction not because he was angry, but because he had been 'mildly' surprised. trying to subdue him without harming him was going to be a bit of a challenge.

you’ve made a mark on dalbit—quite literally, as he still has that damn tattoo of your initials on his right pinky to this day. you first met him, either as himself or as his alter ego, puppeteer, when he first started out his work as a superhero. it was a typical love at the first sight case for him, and you both started seeing each other romantically soon after. dalbit, being your lovestruck boy on his first relationship, immediately got your initials tattooed on his finger. the relationship didn’t last long unfortunately, with him struggling to balance his life as puppeteer and his personal life as your lover, eventually you both realized that it’s best to end it. while he does regret getting the tattoo, it’s mostly because he did not think the decision through and is tired of explaining what it is to strangers. but there’s a reason he still keeps it to this day, and it’s certainly not because he can’t stand the pain of getting it removed.
