The best way to describe jeno is that he's a small town boy who just so happened to be thrown into a super-powered world. In fact, he didn't even know superheroes were a real thing outside of comic books until he was enrolled at Sora academy.

You see, his mother was a retired superhero who went by the name of "odizhivo" (or "lone animal," which later ended up being not all that true when she fell in love with jeno's civilian father). After she had her first child she decided to give up the life of a hero and move to the countryside where jeno's father ran a small, but popular mechanic shop. She became a housewife and basically helped jeno become the kind, lovable boy he is today. His airheadedness and that small bit of naivety are mostly traits from growing up in such a rural area. It had just one school, a tiny local library and a rusty old park. for all intents and purposes, jeno grew up and lived a 100% completely normal life.

Until the night he accidentlly turned into a dog. he had been running through the woods to make it home before curfew when it happened. One second he was dashing over a tree branch and the next he landed on all fours. For a week his parents didn't recognize it was him, as Jeno had no idea how to go back to being human and what-not. his mother only found out it was jeno when he was pawing for the key under the potted plant at their backdoor.

That's how jeno found out that superheroes actually existed, and that his mother of all people - the same person that cut the crusts off his sandwiches, cleaned his scraped knees and tucked him into bed - used to be one. While she's able to shift into any animal at all, it seems that jeno must have a defect, because he can only turn into, well...a dog, and a specific breed at that. After talking it over with his parents they decided to send him to Sora academy, not to become a hero, but so he can learn how to control his power and maybe figure out what's wrong with it.

and who knows? maybe one day he'll decide the hero life is for him and follow in his mom's footsteps。
