constantly changing environments is something bae jinyoung absolutely hates. but he's been moving around the country--and sometimes around the world--ever since he was an infant. why? his parents worked for the korean embassy, aiding in diplomatic missions both domestically and internationally. months after jinyoung was born, the family had packed their bags, ready to move to the states for a few years.
maybe jinyoung would have enjoyed going to different places and experiencing different things if luck was on his side. but it wasn't. his parents were strict, they expected jinyoung to go above and beyond with his studies, mannerisms, everything. jinyoung could never meet their standards so his parents treated him like a lost case, never boasted about him. the only time they would pay attention was when he'd get in trouble with other kids at schools. obviously, it was never the positive type of attention but it made him know that he still...existed in their minds.
he became rebellious rather quick.  having the tendency to rub people the wrong way with his moody disposition, it was easy for people to pin jinyoung as the 'problem child'.  at some point jinyoung just accepts it, and even plays into those expectations.  
having to move to transfer to different schools all the time, people often misunderstood him as a delinquent. during a violent skirmish between some kids at his high school graduation, jinyoung discovered he had a quirk which gave him the ability to manipulate storms. the realization terrified him, and when his parents came to know of this they panicked too.  it was a revelation that could have made them lose their jobs.  on the eve of jinyoung's 18th birthday, they revealed to him that they wouldn't be supporting him anymore.  
now this would have crushed him, but jinyoung didn't feel anything at that point.  it felt freeing that he could finally be the person he wanted to become.  that was the same day jinyoung received a letter from new heroes academy.
jump to present day and jinyoung's a student there, trying to get his quirk under control.  it's tough because in order to do that, jinyoung has to control his emotions.  he's fine for the most part but he tends to have bursts of anger when he's provoked.  when his opponent finds out that this is his weakness, they often know to use it to their advantage to tire jinyoung out.  
jinyoung can be quite intelligent if he tries hard enough but he doesn't like expending his energy on academia.  he has an imaginative mind and often spends his time writing or drawing scenes from his imagination.
