The Farm

The sun was high as Addie hitched her skirts up higher, nearly showing her knees; rough, worn boots kicking up soft clouds of dirt as she marched towards the farm to help out for the day. She'd done this on many occasions, coming to fetch eggs and milk cows, the various creatures sensing her soft demeanor and taking to her easily. There were a few old hens that picked at her hands, but she didn't mind it so much, since it was quite infrequent that they were cruel.

Today, she'd signed on with the old farm maker to help churn butter, though, so there was no need to worry about the mean old chickens. "Good afternoon!" Addie called out to the man who stood stooped over, wizened and crooked; her hand held high in greeting as his dog made it's way over to the fence to sniff her out. She slipped the sheep dog a small piece of dried beef as a treat before the farmer called the dog back with a sharp whistle, and she walked along the fence line, her hands holding the skirts dropping down to a more respectful level.

"The missus is in the barn, Ademyne. You can go on ahead, she's expecting you." The farmer called over to her, though his eyes didn't move from the flock of sheep, watching how his dog herded the fluffy creatures through the vast, fenced in area. "Thank you~" She called in return, her hand falling down to her side again; feet following the curve of the old dirt path down to the barn that doubled as the storefront for the old couple.
