@✧ thanatos Raising her brow at the male’s words, Phoebus stuffed both of her hands into the pocket of her coat. Grinding her foot to the ground, she turned her body in the other’s direction, gaze following his steps. “If you mean smoking cool, then I guess I am smoking cool.” She stood on both of her heels, rolling back and forth as she stared at the floor, fickle thoughts in her head. She had hoped that Thanatos would ignore the things that he might have seen. She was Hades’ cousin so, wouldn’t it make sense that the other would ignore her too?
“I don’t smoke,” Phoebus laid it out word by word before taking a few steps closer towards the male.
“Why? Did you think this is something that Hades should know?” She leaned in, looking at the deity straight in the eyes. “Are you the kind of kids that report everything what others do to adults, Thanatos? Didn’t think you’re that kind of person.”
// I'm so sorry for the late reply > < I got very busy because of school
@✦ phoebus Thanatos' face contorted in to one of shock; a flame thrower was certainly not the response he was expecting to hear. Nevertheless, his widened eyes returned to suspicious squinting as he realised Phoebus was not going to easily back down. She seemed to be good at covering up things and he decided not to entertain her anymore. He plucked up a spontaneous sense of courage and merely shrugged his shoulders, hands returning back in to the warmth of his pants pockets.
"Nice try, miss but I don't really believe you. I think you were smoking," he nonchalantly muttered before starting to walk upon the path he had initially planned to go. For all he knew, Phoebus could have most genuinely, /actually/ had her lighter to use as part of a flamethrower; but the circumstances seemed to prove otherwise. He had begun to ponder; did Hades know about this? It elicited him to stop mid-step and turn back to look at her once more, a single brow raised.
"Do people know you smoke?" Blunt and straightfoward was his question. Afterall, Thanatos was a man who asked whatever came to mind, minimal filter.
@✧ thanatos // it’s okay skdks i feel you but in the education department
Phoebus encouraged the other deity with the tilt of her head, emphasizing her question without the other realizing whatever she was initially up to. She ended up giving him a small smile when he turned back to face her, lightly shrugging her shoulders. Innocence was mostly shown through the twinkle of one’s eyes and the aloofness in their body language and Phoebus was sure she was acing the whole performance.
Blinking her eyes, she leaned closer and her eyes grew wider. It didn’t seem like Thanatos was catching up on her thought.
“Oh? This!” Phoebus leaned away, raising the lighter in her hand before she twirled it in between her fingers. She let a small giggle, tucking her hand behind her ear before she looked up to the other. “It’s my self-defense weapon. This and a can of hairspray. They become an effective but less fancy kind of a flamethrower!”
@✧ deimos Turning his head around, he was met with a few partygoers heading their way out through the backdoor, giggles that followed after them disappearing once they left as well. He wasn’t so sure where else to be at but clearly, the kitchen was the safest hideout at the moment with less unbearable people to walk in and hit him with the casual convo starters. It was not as if he hated it but it was mostly for these people’s sake because he for once was not a good talker.
Hades hoisted himself up the kitchen counter; his nape bang against the cabinets. He quickly crunched down, lowering his torso to fit the tight space between the furniture.
It wasn’t weird to notice another man walking right into the kitchen. Hades made a mistake when he looked up, staring at the other even. Slowly, the deity gave the other person a nod of acknowledgment before turning his gaze away, thinking to himself that he should be minding his own business.
@✦ phoebus () sorry for the late reply, i been drowning in work sdkjf
Thanatos blinked once, looked away from Phoebus in confusion, then blinked again, staring into the air and almost getting his mind lost in it. As much as he was awkward and quiet, the poor boy was genuinely confused and wondered why she thought one would not want to speak to her for other reasons; had she not had people talk to her to make friends, perhaps? He had no idea that Phoebus was using these questions to distract him from the very fact that he had accidentally caught her. Nevertheless, he whipped his head back to her with the same expression of blank confusion he had held all throughout.
Albeit a clever response, Thanatos still found it difficult to believe the reason Phoebus gave him, and he subconsciously began to squint his large eyes at the woman in suspicion. Unsure if he was being played into the palm of her hands, the man straightened his back (for once), chin tilted a bit higher to gesture a nod towards the lighter Phoebus held.
"Then what's your lighter for?" as much as he was a simple-ton, it came with some stubbornness. It was a natural response for him, to investigate when things seemed off, so he proceeded to keep pushing. Was it annoying the other party? Perhaps, but his curiosity was priority and had to be satisfied.
This was not Deimos' scene. This was not the place he liked to be. And now that he was separated from his twin, he felt even more uncomfortable, the walls seeming to press in toward him from all sides. He kept to himself, back to the wall and head tilted down at his phone as though he was looking at something important when in reality he was just staring at the lockscreen, a picture taken of a cluster of flowers that he had thought were beautiful. It was a deterrent, it kept people away from him. Not that they were likely to approach him anyway.
Either way, he was uncomfortable. He didn't like it there. He didn't want to be there. He wanted to leave, to leave and to go home. Back to his apartment, where he didn't feel like he was about to suffocate from the presence of other people surrounding him. Anywhere but there, that was the point.
Being around other people meant being around the potential to go through more of the same pain that he had been through before and that was the last thing that Deimos felt he needed. He had spent a long, long, long time putting himself back together.
Maybe if he got a drink it would be easier. Tucking his phone away in the sleeve of his jacket, Deimos shoved through the crowd and into the kitchen, which was delightfully less-occupied than the rest of the house had seemed to be.
@✧ deimos The vodka felt oddly warm against the plastic cup he was holding. Hades slowly pulled it closer to his chest as another student saddled up right next to him on the couch, bringing along a partner for the much-desired tongue battle and a nasty mix of saliva. He leaned away and crossed his legs, averting his gaze to the other couch in the room. The deity curled and took a sip of his drink, a little tipsy after a few sips. What his friend Helios told him was true. It was a full house every Friday evening. Yet, Chanyeol remained alone most of the time, scanning through all the nameless faces.
He found himself on the couch ten minutes after walking into the party, minding his own business. These people didn’t like the rock genre, and they weren’t fans of the recently released thriller movie.
Hades pushed himself up, bringing his half-empty cup to the kitchen to throw the content away in the drain before tossing the plastic into the bin.
@✧ thanatos The reflection in her eyes changed considerably as her irises grew bigger with anticipation. Thanatos reacted in the way she wanted him to and was visibly disturbed at the mention of Hades’ name.
She shrugged her shoulders; lips pulled into a tiny frown, and Phoebus pulled her brows into a furrow. She kicked her leg before bringing both of her arms to her back. Playing along with Thanatos would be the better option. He seemed miffed, annoyed — exactly how she wanted him to feel. “Well, the only reason I could think of as to why you are talking to me right now is probably because of Hades. Unless, well, you have something else to say to me?”
“What?” Phoebus voiced out, glancing over in the direction the other was pointing at before she ended up chuckling. Slowly, she bowed, picking up the cigarette and holding it up in between them. “I saw it lit on the railing and thought it’d be best to wipe out the flame. It’s easy for a lot of things to catch fire, right?”
@✦ phoebus Her slow blinks were reciprocated by his own as Thanatos was also blinking in mutual confusion and shock; it was surprising to find her at the back alley of a burger chain, but even more of a surprise to catch her smoking. He had held her to a rather different image, a top tier student, obedient and respectful, but he realises that he should not judge a book by its cover. Her questions seemed to flow through one ear then come out the other as his eyes were fixated on the now crushed cigarette but the mention of 'Hades' made him immediately pick up his line of sight back to hers. It was true, there was visible tension between himself and Hades, but the reason seemed to be skewed as the rumours travelled; rather than disliking Hades as a deity, Thanatos disliked the image of himself that was portrayed due to his connection to Hades, hence his effort to stray far from him as possible. But now, that seemed to be pointless as he just had to bump into Phoebus.
"What? No- why would I be looking for Hades?" As soon as he stopped this remark, he scrunched his nose; he did not usually respond to questions and he cursed himself for being so defensive whenever it came to him and the God of the Underworld. Thanatos brought a hand out of his pocket and motioned to the lighter in Phoebus' hand, then the tossed cigarette, completely oblivious to the fact that she was trying to use Hades as a distraction.
"I didn't know... this? It's- it's bad for you, you know." Awkward and vague was his attempt to converse with the other; probably not the best topic to talk about either but Thanatos being Thanatos, he went with it anyway.
@✧ thanatos She blinked once, twice, and a third time. She was frozen in her spot when her eyes caught the male in front of him. As she straightened her back, Phoebus slowly felt bubbles traveling up through her chest, and a hiccup soon followed after in a matter of seconds. Heat rushed up Richard's cheeks as he gave a sheepish smile and started kicking at the cigarette , crushing it with the sole of her shoes.
“Hey,” Phoebus stopped, tilting her head as she pointed in the male’s direction. Her eyes narrowed as she realized the other’s identity. “Thanatos?” Swiftly, she shifted the focus to the other male.
“Did you have dinner here? Oh, or are you in search of Hades?” Phoebus came a little closer towards the deity. The corners of her lips slowly pulled into a smile. One way or another, many knew of the tension between Hades and Thanatos. And what better way to use it to distract the other from what he may have seen?
“Sorry, but Hades went to attend a study group. Do you want me to let him know that you were searching for him?”
@✦ phoebus Despite the local negative reviews of Burger Basileus, Thanatos found himself seated at the corner seat of the shop idly chewing away at his rather bland burger while staring out the window; he reckoned the reviews were understandably justified, however, he was a simple lad. As long as food was cheap and accessible, it'd be in his stomach right away. He soon dusted off his hands and wiped his mouth of remains from a burger that he would generously rate a solid 4.8 out of 10, before making way to the back alley; he rarely saw fellow deities roam that area, which was a significant reason accumulating to his preference for it. Hands tucked deep into his trackies, Thanatos kept his gaze fixed on the floor until he heard the slight shuffle of shoes. Naturally, his head lifted to glance at said person and he unconsciously stopped in his tracks with a blink of surprise.
Although knowing the likeliness of this person being a deity was high, he did not expect them to be a person he had seen occasionally beside Hades. 'Close friends', he had thought. It was Phoebus, and in his rather simple and mundane mind, he had shortened her name to 'Phoebe'; how or why, he did not know either, but it was a common case for many of his thought processes. In the abrupt moment the two made eye contact, Thanatos was able to scan the rest of her presentation. Unexpected and an interesting twist to his initial impression of her, was the lighter and the feeble smoke from a tossed cigarette which he automatically assumed was from her, so he raised a brow, uknowingly having stared at the stick on the ground for too long.
@✧ thanatos If there were any other names that Phoebus could use to rename Burger Basileus, it would definitely be Garbage and Grills. The franchise may say they serve meals that fit a king, but Phoebus begged to differ. And one may wonder why she was wandering around the premise if she was one to judge it. The night was still young when Hades left her to attend a study group session. She took it to herself to aimlessly stroll to the back alley of the fast-food restaurant for one long drag of a cigarette. Phoebus exhaled, her shoulders visibly relaxing, only to straighten them a few seconds later. She pushed herself off the wall, crushing the stick at the surface of her lighter before throwing it away in the big pile of trash bags.
