fae clearing

Where the sun peeks through to catch wind of the gossip.
the clearing
A large opening amongst the overhanging trees, and a reprieve for frightened travellers.

@ᶜ˖⁺ hakyeon c。 [[sorry i replied earlier with the assumption that hakyeon was still knocked out in the field]]

Kyungsoo was just about to take off again to hunt down whoever had shot the wolf when he noticed the wolf was regaining consciousness again. He paused then, coming to bend down and kneel beside the creatures head. 'You're welcome.' Kyungsoo answered softly, easily communicating with the wolf thanks to his ability to telepathically connect with animals. He didn't even need to utter a sound as he did so.

'Are you hurting? You can rest here for as long as you'd like.' Kyungsoo offered, eyeing the wolf's wound. 'It might not be good to move any faster than a walking pace until that's healed more. Some of my potions don't always work as well as they should just yet.'

Kyungsoo carefully reached out and let the wolf sniff at his fingers a moment before running his hand through the fur on the top of his head. 'I need to go find whoever it was that shot you. This is technically my land and I refuse to put up with anyone shooting anything on it without my permission, especially creatures like you.' He explained, giving the wolf a moment to relax again under his touch before pulling back and standing up.

'Please be careful. If you need anything, howl. I'll be able to hear you, I promise.' He said, reaching for his knapsack and slinging it over his shoulder. He nodded in farewell to the wolf for the time being and set out towards the woods to find the perpetrator. He used his tracking/hunting abilities combined with his borrowed senses of a wolf to try to locate the person responsible for hurting his new friend.

Unfortunately, Kyungsoo discovered whoever it was was already long gone by the time he'd made it out to search for him. The trail went cold at a set of tire marks exiting the area and Kyungsoo was a little too concerned about the wolf that may or may not still be at his home to really bother perusing. He would simply have to pay careful attention from now on to ensure the safety of the creatures on his land.

@ᶜ˖⁺ kyungsoo d。 hakyeon's eyes snapped open at the sight of the human, his teeth baring as he let out a low snarl. while he was still human, every single animal instinct inside him was screaming 'danger' - and hakyeon wouldn't ignore those instincts, not after making that mistake and getting shot by that damn hunter. he tried to get up, paws weakly pushing at the ground in an attempt to heave himself up, but to no avail - he collapsed, letting out a whine of pain as he landed on the wound. running was futile, he'd registered, and as panic began to rise within his wolfen form, all he could do was growl menacingly at the stranger, ready to tear out his neck at a moment's notice.

with a start, hakyeon realized what the human was doing as he spotted the bottle in his hands. oh. this man was going to help him, not hurt him. he felt a little stupid for not realizing earlier, but in times of pain, his animal instincts tended to kick in, leaving no room for common sense. he didn't really think he needed help, he could probably fix it himself once he felt better, but still, he appreciated it. he stopped himself from growling, watching curiously as the human uncapped the bottle, beginning to spread the serum over the wound in his side.

big mistake - it hurt. it hurt a lot, and hakyeon let out a pained howl as his skin shifted to form that scab. it hurt more than getting shot, even. his animal instincts kicked in yet again, and rather than simply dealing with the pain, he began to thrash wildly, howling as he swiped at the human's arm in an attempt to stop the pain.

eventually, the pain subsided, leaving a dull throb in place of where the open gunshot wound used to be. if he'd been standing, hakyeon would have collapsed in exhaustion. getting shot was tiring, and for some reason, getting healed was even more so. he thought that would be the end of it, that the human would just leave him there to heal properly and be off on his merry way, but he was wrong. he found himself relaxing slightly in the human's arms, too weak and tired to resist.

as a wolf, hakyeon was quite heavy, and he found himself impressed with the way he felt some of his wolfen qualities flow into the man. he must have a way with animals, hakyeon noted, his eyes beginning to droop with exhaustion yet again as he passed out peacefully in the stranger's arms.

he woke up in an unfamiliar porch, the ache in his side almost completely gone. if wolves could smile, he would. instead, he looked up at the stranger in gratitude, sticking his tongue out as he lapped at the man's legs as his way of showing his thanks. he hadn't known how deep his wound had been, hadn't bothered to check, so for all he knew, he could have died then and there, only saved by this kind human. hakyeon was glad to see that some people still cared about animals.

'thank you,' he thought, hoping that the look in his eyes would be enough to convey the gratitude he felt towards this man.

The shack stood on a narrow rise just on the outskirts of the clearing, and it had only received this unfortunate title as it was not a home by any respectable means and often inhabited by wild critters. Several centuries old, squat and derelict from years of disuse, it had four windows set in the front that were either boarded up – in a poor man’s attempt to discourage quartering – or broken into; ivy had rooted from the wilted ground, parched earthy brown, yellow weeds and bowed floras to consume the face of the shack. In all, it failed to please the eye. Admittedly, in its earlier years of construction and purchase, by him no less, it had been a quaint, homely cottage he’d taken to visiting when the daily bustle of a populace city grated his nerves.

The house itself was several miles from the mainland’s, nestled deep in the sprawling expanse of forestry that was saturated with a profound presence of magic. It is in the very air he breathes – subtle, thrumming, vibrating essence that is languid in movement; a blink and there is a swirl of colours. An inhale, the taste of lilacs and lavender, jasmine and narcissus. His skin puckers, his fingers tremble, ever so slightly, and at his core, his magic rears itself upward, impatient from its latent slumber. Here, where the din of the city is lost in the songs of birds, sweet and mellifluous, the rustle of ancient oaks and holly, yew and Hawthorne, he is at peace. Seldom does he allow himself such respite.

“Leviathan, do not roam too far,” he cautions the excitable mass of deep russet mane. Umber irises, clever and mischievous, peer at him from beneath heavy brows. The pup sits on her hindlegs, sniffs the air before stretching to her full height to explore the thick underbrush – only to yip in start when a hare leaps from its folds. She whines, winding herself between the legs of her owner. He chuckles, a low, rich sounds that resounds.

“Don’t be frightened,” he comforts her, urging her forward with a nudge of his hand. “Go along. You were given such a prevailing name for a reason.”

Her uncertainty is palpable, and it is only when he ventures towards the shack that she trots after him, sniffing and pawing at roots they pass in curiosity. He moves with a grace of a cultivated character and bears a disposition that can easily be viewed as one of mild mannerism and placid temperament. He stands at an attractive height with a lissome build, sinewy muscles, and characteristically handsome features; his complexion had taken on a bronze sheen from the many hours spent outdoors, providing him with a rugged appearance that is accentuated by a patch of newly grown hair along his angular jawline.

He opens the door without resistance and only the barest groan of complaint from the worn hinges. Leviathan bumps into his calf in her eagerness to explore the interior, tumbling onto her hind and crying in discontentment.

“There, there,” he murmurs softly as he gathers her into his arms, tucking her against his chest as he enters the shack. It was just as he’d left it nearly three decades ago; sans the update appliances – late 7os though they were – very little had been disturbed. The wooden walls were worn and bare, and a fine sheet of dust and debris covered every available surface.

Leviathan sneezes and paws at his chest.

“Go on outside while I clean,” he instructs her as he removes his jacket, hooking it over the doorknob. “And don’t run off too far.”

He receives a thrilled yip in response.

@ᶜ˖⁺ hakyeon c。 In the mid-day sun, Kyungsoo worked his hands through the soil of his 'backyard' - a large expanse of forest that went on for miles and miles. He was digging for specific grubs to put into his herbal treatments. He often liked to use these herbal treatments to heal illnesses otherwise untreatable. By brewing these specific grubs with other plants and bits of bark, he found he could create cures to stomach illnesses like an irritable digestive system.

At some point in his digging, he heard a loud bang which he instantly registered as a gun shot. The sound alone already ticked Kyungsoo off. Who thought they could just barge onto his land and start shooting things? The only thing in the forest anyone would think was worth shooting would be animals, and Kyungsoo was not about to put up with that in ANY way. He instantly took off towards the sound, determined to find the source of the sound and rip their hide to shreds.

It wasn't long into his trek that he smelled blood. His expert hunting and tracking skills alerted him there was a wounded animal close by, and he knew the hurt animal took precedence over whoever may or may not still be out there. He had to get to the animal, and get there fast if he wanted to ensure its survival (or help relieve its suffering). He instantly stopped his moving and shut his eyes, focusing his mind on the scent and scanning telepathically for the animal in pain. He caught a glimpse of its energy and location just seconds before the animal disappeared off his radar. "." He hissed, instantly taking off in that direction.

Upon arriving close to where he'd sensed the animal, he caught sight of the blood spilled all over the tall grass. There were small tufts of hair as well from where the site of the wound was getting worse. Eventually, his eyes caught sight of the injured wolf as well. The animal was bleeding out quite a bit, and Kyungsoo knew if he didn't act fast the wolf would die. Thinking fast, he tugged his knapsack off his back and started digging through its contents for a specific formula he'd been working on for a few months now. He found the bottle labeled "regrowth" and popped the cap off, pouring the liquid liberally onto the wolf's wound with the hopes it would actually work because he didn't have time to go get anything else.

The wolf's skin started to pull a bit in each direction towards each other, but instead of closing the wound like he'd hoped, it only clotted the bleeding and formed a giant scab. He'd only been testing the formula on himself up to this point, and it hardly worked even that well for humans. He was glad, however, that the bleeding had at least stopped. Once the gash in the wolfs side had for sure been clotted by the serum, he got back to his feet and tried to think of the easiest way to get the wolf closer to home to treat him.

Thanks to Kyungsoo's abilities with animals, the answer came easily to him. He placed his hand on the wolf gently and focused his energy and strength, matching up his power and strength with the wolfs natural abilities and taking on the characteristics of the wolf he would need to lift him and carry the giant beast home. He felt his muscles tense and grow hard, allowing him to scoop the wolf up in his arms and start carrying him home.

The wolf was almost as big as Kyungsoo's body, but carrying him was easy thanks to his borrowed ability of strength from the wolf. When he arrived home, he laid the wolf down on his back porch and went inside to get more healing potions and herbs to patch the wound up. It didn't take long before Kyungsoo had the wound pretty well healed, sealing it off with a medical patch. Now, he'd just have to worry about taking care of that hunter..

@ᶜ˖⁺ kyungsoo d。 stupid, stupid hakyeon - the mental curses he spouted at himself seemed endless as he limped his way through the unfamiliar forest, his side throbbing with the sharp pain of a gunshot wound. damn hunters. if there was one thing he really, really hated in all his years of living, it was those humans that often came into forests with shotguns, killing defenseless animals left and right for their hide. it was a little hypocritical of the skinwalker to hate those that killed, but he couldn't help it - animals like wolves were his friends. he'd spent years with them, and he couldn't help but feel his gut churn with disdain at the thought of anyone ending these faithful creatures' already short lives too quickly. even in places of magic, hakyeon supposed that hunters were the one thing that would never change.

he'd been careless, far too engrossed in the feel of wind whipping against his fur, his paws padding through the soft grass to notice the man slowly tracking them with the gun in his hand. one of the wolves he'd been running with was killed, and in return, hakyeon had leapt upon him, ready to tear his throat out, but not before his side was grazed with a bullet. it wasn't fatal - he'd been through so much worse, but it was painful enough for his vision to blur as blood dripped from the open wound. he was too weak for magic, his mind fuzzy with pain.

suddenly, hakyeon collapsed on the side that wasn't wounded, his snout burying itself in the soft grass of the clearing as his eyes began to shut. maybe he should just lay here and wait for the bleeding to stop, for the pain to subside, and then he'd get up and heal himself. hakyeon whined softly, listening to the birds' chirping, the nymphs' soft laughter, the quiet stride of the other animals as they wandered through the forest. yes, this was nice - the sound of life. he could fall asleep to this time and time again. his eyes began to droop, his head slumping against the grass. rest, that was what he needed.
