does anyone try to change their writing style from to time when replying? when you try to adapt a new style, do you keep it for long or go back to what you're most comfortable with?

i've been really feeling the pits about my writing, and i would like to hear other opinions or so.

sometimes i do experiment with different styles of writing to spice things up, sure, and while my partner's style plays an important part in deciding the mood and the length of my replies, i prefer to stick to my signature style. it takes a lot of time to form a literate thread, and i like to keep my style throughout the thread consistent– not just for me, but for my partner as well. it helps with stabilizing the muse of both parties c:

i write to mirror my partner 90% of the time. i also write in the style of one of my favourite authors whose work i admire. my writing has been through many ups and downs over the years, that being said - it took me a long while to get to where i am today, content with what i create.

Mhmn, I definitely mirror my partner. If they’re more descriptive and literate, I do that. If they’re more flowery or even purple prose, I adapt. If they’re more casual and straight forward, fine by me. I don’t see it as putting in more effort to a certain partner. Instead, I see it as being a decent rping partner who will try their best to accommodate to make the rping experience enjoyable as possible. After all, rping takes two. If only one party is content, what’s the point? Might as well go write a fanfic by yourself.

Just write what makes you comfortable and makes you happy, if anyone gives you about your writing; then you tell them to get stuffed and ignore them cause they not worth your time and effort.

Yes, I change my writing style depending on two things:
A.) the nature of the plot / genre
B.) who it is I’m roleplaying with

It’s not necessarily I’m putting more effort into a certain reply compared to another but like, I can write my usual Rick Riodan-esque casua style if I’m roleplaying with somebody who writes flowery language and our plot is fairly heavy(like a horror or a thriller or a tragedy) but then I also wouldn’t whip out my eloquent adjectives for every second word flowery writing if I’m writing a jock character; you feel?

It depends on the situation imo and if you find that you change writing styles too, it’s totally fine!

muse is such an issue for me so my writing changes pretty often. i'd say it's pretty normal, as we're always working on our skills and it's hard to be satisfied with our own work. i don't think you should worry much about it! so long as you're comfortable with what you're writing, it's all good ^^
