Maybe it’ll be like this forever: Yujin searching for a sound, the music, and its source under the concession of voices washing through her, crashing like waves up ashore. She fails to see who she is even if the voices urge her, plead with her. But what the sea cannot impart, the sand makes use of, taking form and chiseling the girl’s body into its glimmering texture.

And somehow, it is soft on her skin, despite the late afternoon heat and the sweat dripping from her brows down the sides of her face, sizzling to where they fall down. Maybe if she stays like this forever, just maybe, the words will come to.

But who will she ever be in this town receding to be a memory of her past? Who might she ever be?

Yujin has tried listening to the voices under, rising from the seabed, but it’s only silence upon silence upon silence. The water winks as if in mockery, but the pallid blue greets her like an old friend.

It is all it’ll ever be despite the shore clinging to the hollow of her footprints, once retraced. And it is all it’ll ever be: now reduced to a relic of time imprinted by her existence, slowly fading away, reclaimed by the sea.
