☾ ¦ 016 Guest Room

Just as he had made up his mind, Kyungsoo opened all drawers and cabinets inside the bathroom. Nothing much - some kit for hygienic purposes (toothbrush, toothpaste, a soap, a round loofa). He strode out and searched the room, ransacked even. He pulled the drawers of the bedside table and found nothing. The top of the study table had a pen and a paper. He took both. The pen inserted in the pocket of his suit and the paper folded neatly into 6 squares and kept inside the back pocket of his trousers.

It was deluge in his head and he embodied this storm as he went about the place - tearing the draperies down and shutting the blinds then opening them again before shutting them (again). He was out of breath and when he looked around to muse over what he had done, the place looked like he had ran amok. Slowly, he sat on the edge of the bed and calmed himself.

"Stop being so scared." Out came words so hallow in a form of ragged breathing. A tremor ran across his spine and he knew that this ball was the game of the damned. Who would think of something so infandous? They had won the war. Shouldn't they be celebrating? Why this?

"No stop." He slapped himself. He needed to stop himself from thinking towards south. This was a survival game, a zugzwang. He must recollect himself before dinner, before death.

Scared.

Do Kyungsoo was scared. He had been keeping to himself when the announcement ended. The maid scared him, the place scared him. Everything gave off that sinister aura: that door, that doorknob, that carpet, that window...the list could go on. He didn't bother with getting himself confined to social etiquette. He entered and closed the door behind him, locked it, without even taking a glance back to the maid who had ushered him.

Trapped.

Do Kyungsoo was trapped. He could so easily shrug off the shackles of confining social etiquette but not this...event (he didn't know what and how to make of it). With long strides he trudged towards the bathroom. Taking off his mask, he the faucet and washed his face. "Dinner? What dinner? Do we get to eat human bones here? Human flesh?" He mused through gritted teeth.

Mad.

Do Kyungsoo was mad. He stared at himself in the mirror and found a wide-eyed boy, terrified. Did he have to kill again to get away from all the misfortunes? Was his sin haunting him? Was it out to get him back to the ground. Kyungsoo wouldn't let that happen. He had established himself as a merchant out of that ragged cocoon. He was no more the street rat. He was Do Kyungsoo - young entrepreneur - determined, competitive. He didn't want to eat but excitement coursed through him. He couldn't wait for dinner. He needed to get out of this place---and fast.

Yui led the boy up the stairs and to the front of the guest's door. Her face was blank, though her eyes were saying something different. The maid unlocked the door and opened it. She stood back and waited for the boy to go inside. "This is your room, Mister Do Kyungsoo. Stay inside until we call you for dinner," she smiled an empty smile as she watched the boy go inside. "Remember to lock your door," Yui said, and with that the door was closed.
