ㅤ⤿ㅤhe did not mind that she took a little longer to respond. he figured that she had spontaneously gotten busy with something. perhaps moved different rooms, if he correctly heard faint footsteps from the line. he waited patiently, moving his cursor on the screen in the meantime even though it was clear that he hadn't been doing work for a while. not that they kept track; he wasn't required to stay late at night, but he liked getting work out of the way. plus, he worked better at this time. in the meantime, while he was on the phone with this girl, he clicked across the screen, saving each bit of work he had completed in case he had forgotten to earlier, when she first called her. he finished right when she started to speak again, what she said earning a smile from his thin lips. "i said you /shouldn't/ have feelings for me. i never said you couldn't."

⤿ somehow, the confession did something to her— a different kind of heat enveloping her body that she has to fan herself with her hand. it doesn't help, though, so she rushes to the bathroom where it's far colder, the sight of her with tinted cheeks staring back at her. “and you told me i can't have feelings for you when you did just that.” it's the bare minimum, she knows, but they both knew why they met the night. he made it easy for her to forget her own problems, to feel at ease. with him, she's heard and seen— validated— without asking for a prize for it. how can she not catch feelings? “you're only making it hard for me, junhui.”
