legacy
information

here you will find the official f.a.q of legacy, this room will be continually updated as rolerplayers ask questions so please feel free to tag an admin for any questions you may have :) we will get back to you asap!

one - where is legacy set?
legacy is set in a non-descript world setting so that we can avoid limiting participants imaginations. we also aim to avoid a setting where a major city has 20+ big league superheros whereas a neighbouring city has none; it would be a little silly if the roleplay equivelants of superman, iron man, wonder woman, rogue, etc, were all based in one location, no?
if you require a location for your plot, just specify with your partner where your thread is set as all rooms will be avoiding any descriptions of major landmarks, etc. a separate tab will be made available with existing cities in both the real world and in the comic books such as gotham, metropolis, sokovia, etc. so that threads that require a specific comic/film location are able to be roleplayed.

two - can we roleplay as existing superheros?
as of right now, we're not going to be accepting any major pre-existing heroes or villains(though there is nothing stopping you from being inspired) and their public identities but, if the roleplay manages to keep its activity up, we may hold an event where roleplayers can add an already established name to their repertoire of characters.
to clarify what we mean by major: if they're a part of a well known team, have had their own line of comics or feature as a main character(whether protagonist or antagonist), then you won't be able to roleplay them.
to give you a very incomplete but hopefully a diverse enough idea of characters we aren't accepting: dc's batman, robin, poison ivy, cyborg, klarion the witch boy, etc. marvel's black widow(natasha romanoff), wolverine, mantis, okoye, etc. if your knowledge of comic books isn't really up to date, use this as a general guideline: if they've been in a movie or a tv show, you can't roleplay as them.

three - why do i need to have a weakness?
everyone has their own form of kryptonite. everyone.

four - why am i limited to only three powers?
because it ruins the fun when people create heroes or villains who have every power conceivable. three felt like the safest number.

five - does that include 'simple' powers like peak human strength, agility, etc?
yes and no!
the yes part of the answer is: if you're planning on having your power being super strength to the scale of jessica jones or superman(named heroes are just to give you a range), then you will need to list it as an individual power.
the no part of the answer is: if you're going for a physique similar to black widow or batman, then no! those heroes have simply trained their bodies to be peak condition with no alien or meta abilities.
however this does not mean every single hero or villain here can list 'peak human strength' or whatever on their profiles. be somewhat realistic, if your character is a magic user; they likely aren't going to have the same strength as nightwing, who relies on his own human strength and ability to be a hero.

six - can our characters die?
yup. they can also be revived. if you're leaving the roleplay, we ask that you plan a death scene and roleplay it out unless you have to leave immediately, in which case, tell an admin and we'll figure something out for you.

seven - how does time work in the roleplay?
it doesn't.
honestly, we don't really have a planned schedule in mind, just do things at your own pace and we'll aim to having events / celebrate holidays at the rough time that they in the real world.

eight - do i need to have read any comics, seen tv shows or watched any of the movies?
nah, who cares if you know everything or nothing? any questions you have can be answered by other roleplayers and the admin.

nine - what do the rooms under the network tab mean?
the network tab is a description of current hero and villain teams active in the world and their members. you can be a part of more than one group(but not all, perhaps a soft limit of three to four groups) or a part of none, it's totally up to you!
some groups have limited memberships so if you're looking to join one, you better get in quick!
you can read the individual rooms for a more detailed write up.

ten - can i take inspiration from only marvel and dc?
This is another yes and no question.
yes becauseyou can take inspiration from practically any form of fiction in the world :) while we would prefer you stick to the classic dc and marvel comics, these characters aren't the only definition of what a 'hero' or 'villain is'
but the no part of it is this: say, for example, you wanted to create a character based off of the shinobi from the world of naruto. you may do so but your character isn't going to be coming from konohagakure, they'll be from earth or a pocket dimension similar to k'un lun or ta lo.

eleven - are you taking any canon events from marvel and dc?
eh.... not really. aside from what's mentioned in the description, this is really only because we're trying to encourage original characters or adaptions but if you wanted to rp a specific plot from any of the films/shows, you're more than welcome too!

twelve - in the film series, mutants are hated by humans for what they are. are you continuing that here? what is the general attitude towards mutants and people with meta abilities?
great question, me! thank you, me :) so even though it would be nice/realistic for people to accepting of mutants and metas, that makes for a boring roleplay. so while we're going to leave it up to participants imaginations, more or less, we're going to establish that there is more public unrest about mutants and metahumans(hero or no) than before the two worlds merged.
some have taken to believing that it was because of these superpowered individuals that earths a and j combined and caused a mass death/destruction event even though there is no reason to believe so.
and with the rise of supervillains once more, there is a higher amount of suspicion towards those who display powers or a want to be a part of superhero/villain world.
all we can really say is this: roleplay these topics at your own discretion. even though we all know that if superheroes existed, it would be the coolest thing ever, we can't exactly deny that they're massively destructive at the best of times. we also have real life villains without powers, and they're terrifying enough; imagine how it would be if they did have meta abilities.
use your judgement, we're not going to limit you with your plots :)
