how to build your character
despite how the title sounds, this guide isn't the be all and end all of how to make your character; far from it! this is for the people who are struggling to come up with things about their characters, from as simple as their job to their entire character history. we encourage that you have a quick skim of this page regardless of how prepared you are because who knows, you might find some handy-dandy advice here!
meta abilities
we're going to dive right into arguably the most important part of the roleplay: superpowers, abilities, and whether or not your character should have 'em.
so while superpowers are great and all, we can't forget the heros and villains who don't have any special abilities; and instead rely on their own wits, skills and emotions as human beings. if you're looking to go down this particular route, you can look towards characters such as batman, oracle, the joker, etc.
abilities such as:
- peak human condition
- mastery over different forms of combat
- mastery over a weapon
- genius intellect
and more, are great ways to create a superhero or a villain without giving them superpowers.
if you're looking to give your character meta-abilities or make them a mutant, then we really only have three specific rules (which you'll have already read on the front page!). those rules are, as follows:
- a maximum of three abilities
- a minimum of one weakness for your character
- not pairing up more than two overpowered abilities together (and if you're going to have two overpowered abilities, then your weakness will need to justify this.)
if you need ideas for powers or are looking to get inspired from a specific character, then the superpower wiki (click here), will be your guiding light :D
occupations
as amazing as cafes are, not everybody in the world can be a barista in a flowershop cafe. since we're encouraging a wide range of ages, that means a wide range of occupations.
your skills can be in labour such as plumbing, plastering, etc. you could be a white collar worker writing the next headline for the daily planet! or maybe you're out on the streets campaigning for the freedom of mutants(or for the imprisonment of them). be creative, be unique, if you're really stuck then please refer to these lists here for occupation ideas.
character history
if you've read the indepth lore, you'll be aware that there are some shared events throughout everybodies lives. we encourage that you use these as key moments in your characters background; for example, how did they react when the two earths collided? did they lose their families due to a freak portal? perhaps you were lucky and a hero appeared in time to save you from a mugging!
think about how your character perceives the world of superheroes. has their life been affected in a positive or a negative way? are they simply just trying to get by but that darn superman just destroyed your office building? were you happy when the heroes and villains or disappeared? go crazy, go wild, the great thing about being in a superhero rpg is that you can, essentially, do anything you want!
