the platinum age
10.01.2029, Video Log 01-A Director M. Castillo, director of A.R.M.O.R
Regardless of what the board says, I decided that an informal log was the best way to document the recent changes to our world. Where to even begin...
I suppose the best place to start is the very beginning.
It was chaos. Pure, unchecked chaos. I'm still not even really sure what happened that day. Sometimes I wonder if it was even real, but a new threat reminds me of what this world has become every day. It started with earthquakes and then tsunamis. Waves over 1,300 feet tall destroyed thousands of towns and killed millions. Volcanoes that had been dormant for millions of years erupted. We tried our best, we called in the avengers, the x-men, we called in every favour we had to help our people, but it wasn't enough.
In the mass destruction came portals, not unlike those made by doctor Strange, but these were... Forgive me, these portals were strange. Like nothing, we'd ever seen. And through those portals came others. They were humans, just like us. Apparently, multiple universes existed, and for some reason, ours and another had collided. Cities that had previously stood for decades were gone; new ones had been replaced worldwide. New countries, new islands, it was like 50% of our earth, and 50% of theirs had been mashed together.
This earth came with its own set of heroes. The Justice League, they called themselves. Of course, there were more, but there was no denying the power this group held. I remember that tensions were high for a while, but we couldn't risk fighting between our groups. Nobody understood what was happening. It was hard, it took a lot of compromises, but we figured it out. After all, the appearance of these new heroes meant new villains; some were of standard stock but others... Like nothing I'd ever seen before.
A few years passed, and it seemed that things were going alright; we finally took a breath and started to relax. But it always goes wrong when we let things slip. In one snap, they were all gone. The Justice League, the Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D, S.W.O.R.D, the x-men, everything and everyone. Gone. Just like that. The purple er(excuse my language) who did this hopped on a ship afterwards and disappeared into deep space.
All that was left were the remnants of A.R.M.O.R, the dregs of anyone a part of these organisations fighting for the good of the world. I was only a P.A.
On the one hand, it seemed almost like a blessing. Of course, we missed the women and men we had looked up to for so long, our heroes, but for the first time ever, we didn't have an insane megalomaniac threatening to destroy the world. It was an interesting transition. A.R.M.O.R was one of the few organisations that still had employees, so we banded together to keep the company going; with our heroes gone, we knew it was only a matter of time before some alien came around to mess things up.
That was almost 12 years ago.
A.R.M.O.R has thrived; we've overtaken S.W.O.R.D and S.H.I.E.L.D in defence systems, research and more. And it seems not a moment too soon.
We found out the hard way that there still individuals with these powers, these abilities, that wanted to take everything for themselves. we did our best to hold them back but it was a losing war; we needed our heroes back.
it was almost as if god had heard our prayers. i could barely believe our luck, when they came. the legion of heroes, they called themselves. it's a little cheesey, honestly, but what organisation name isn't? they had had the same idea as us but had actually done something about it. crazy how life works. you think you're doing the best you can and somebody beats you at your own game.
some still needed help though. not every meta or mutant was able to control their abilities. A.R.M.O.R knew we would need to step in and help, we did what we could but nothing ever really beats the help of other metahumans. We wanted to do our best to train the new generation of superheroes because we knew... We knew that there were those who would want to hurt, to hurt and destroy and kill. So they had to be prepared; we had to be ready.
The golden age of heroes had passed, whether we liked it or not. So it was time for the new league, the platinum age, the legacy of those before them.
We don't know what the future has in store for us, but we will be ready.
