@✿ cha seonhye (née chae) [h] Kiwoon couldn't help but chuckle softly at Seonhye's jest, a warm smile tugging at the corners of his lips. Her words were laced with a playful tone, a welcomed respite from his usually distant demeanor. "Well, let's just say you keep me quite preoccupied. I'm not sure I could handle another woman," he replied, his voice filled with amusement. "Besides, who else would be able to put up with me the way you do?" As Seonhye patted down on his durumagi, straightening the crease near his goreum, he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer to him as he whispered discreetly for her ears alone. "I hope you’ll keep your eyes on me only, my dear.”

@✿ ryu aera [h] Jinye smiled warmly as Aera remarked on the newlyweds, her eyes flickering with genuine affection as she observed the couple. "They do look perfect together," she agreed softly, her gaze lingering on the newlyweds. "I'm sure Lord Go will take good care of your sister." At Aera's request to call her 'eonnie,' Jinye's smile widened, touched by the gesture. "Of course you can. We're practically family already," she replied, her tone warm and reassuring. Jinye placed a gentle hand on Aera's, she could sense the younger girl's hesitations, her unspoken worries about her brother. With a soft smile, Jinye offered her reassurance. "Jihoo has been busy with work, but he's doing well," she said softly, her voice laced with understanding. "I'm sure he wants to come back as soon as he's able to. He misses the capital, and the food from home, but mostly,” her gaze softened, “he misses you."

@✿ seol riah Riah’s apology was genuine and heartfelt, and he could hear it in the gentle autumn breeze that settled in the space between them. Yet, he couldn’t bring himself to meet her eyes as a twinge of something he couldn't quite name washed over him. Suho wanted to reassure her, and it came in the form of a faint smile, one that didn’t quite reach his eyes.

"No, it's alright,” he managed to say as he lifted his gaze upwards, his eyes softening as he took in her features, the ones he had once known so well.

But even as he spoke the words, he couldn't shake the feeling that lingered in his chest with a soft drumming. Memories that had been buried long ago seemed to want to rise to the surface, but he believed that those emotions had been carefully tended to through the years. He had come to accept the losses in his life, living each day with a reliance on the joy of his daughter’s infectious brightness. Myunghee was now a guardian angel watching over their little girl and that was all Suho could hope for so as to live the remainder of his life without wanting to face her shadow.

However, now that he was standing face to face with Riah once more, he couldn't help but wonder what might have been if things had turned out differently. It was as if their reunion had dug up memories he wasn't sure he was ready to confront.

Her attempt to humor him by bringing up the topic of their last conversation before the years turned them into strangers could only elicit a rather small, yet pained smile to his lips.

Suho could still remember that day vividly, the brisk scent of tea, the smoky incense, her pearl-like eyes and the glistening tears that ran down her cheeks. How could he ever forget when that had been the last image of Seol Riah that lived in his head all these years?

"I doubt that’s the reason you haven’t wed yet," he replied, "perhaps your mister right is still out there waiting for you. And well.. If they’ve passed you by, then they didn't realize what they missed out on."

There was so much left unsaid between them, so many questions left unanswered. But for now, in this fleeting moment of reunion, perhaps that was enough to be the push he needed to say the words that had built a nest in his chest. “I’m glad to hear that you’ve been well, Riah…” his tone was gentle, but he didn’t want to regret missing out on this chance in fear that this may be his last opportunity before more years drew them apart again.

“I… I’m sorry, Riah,” he said at last, “for that day at the teahouse… that I’ve made you cry.” He swallowed the lump in his throat, rather remorseful over how that day had turned out. “I–” he paused, unsure how to explain himself, but perhaps he did not deserve to. “I’m sorry, truly sorry.”

@❃ jung hana It had dawned her long ago that she had been the cause for their break, and it was really settling in on her now. Here, where she was somewhat in her own domain, Hana looked so hopeful and innocent. It was quite a few steps closer to the facade that Eun had often found annoyance with. Under the moonlight surrounded by beautiful greenery, she for once understood a bit more of who Hana truly was.

A sad smile lingered on her lips as she listened to the excitement Hana was showing. Yes, there was so much to be happy about, and yet she could not fully let go of the memories of their last encounter on the pier. Still, she fought through to continue the conversation, thinking perhaps it was better not to dwell on it all too much.

“He truly makes me feel as special as I possibly could. As if I was a muse all on my own for just existing. It is exhilarating, truly. But-“ Eun’s gaze lowered, her tone shifting with a hint of worry. “I try not to let the papers influence me. For most they are probably just entertaining rumours and hear-say, but the consequences that could come are worrisome. I have experience with what the yangban would do if they saw their kind fraternising with us. I don’t want to lose Yejun like I lost… him.” She hesitated. It was better to not walk down that path again. It had lead to their past fight, and even though Eun felt more assured of things than she did then, there was no doubt that some of those demons still clung tightly to her.

“Certainly that is just a hypothetical,” the gisaeng added with a short laugh.

“Not much to tell?”
Eun arched a single brow, not long after followed by the other. “You mean- The one from your story?” The one she had thought Hana had made up last she heard it. “He was at the gala?” Perhaps it was overzealous of her to step closer, but she did, sneaking her arm into Hana’s to interlock them. “Please. I… I shot you down last you told of him. I should not have done so, and I fear I can not apologize enough to truly make up for it, but-“ She placed a hand gently atop Hana’s, patting her hand ever so carefully. “A first step would be to ask. And so I shall. This mystery man that saved you. Did you at least get a dance with him at the gala?”

@❁ byun sangwook Haewon’s eyes barely left sangwook’s sister, her husband and little bundle of joys as she pondered over his answer to her question. Despite their engagement only being official as of recently, one would have expected that they were more like a married couple after having spent the last year staying together.

Had she thought of having a family with sangwook? Yes. Had she thought of being a mother at such a young age? Yes. Was she ready? No. Not because she wasn’t ready, but she knew one could never be ready for when the time actually comes to be a parent, a mother. After all, being pregnant was definitely not on her wish list in the past, but it not deter her from looking forward to the new life she had once created.

Haewon would have been lying to herself if she said that there was a point in time during their relationship where she did not think of a life with sangwook, maybe a daughter or a son, or both of them in their arms, a little family they could call theirs. There were many nights as she looked up at the ceiling of their shared abode, hearing the soft breathing sound of her lover, where she thought sangwook would have made a great father in the future.

and tonight, was one of those night as she glanced at her fiancé—who had that slight glint in his eyes as he watched his nephew and niece— that she thought to herself, maybe, just maybe, she was ready to start this new journey with him. without giving him a verbal response, she gave him a gentle squeeze of his hand, a little smile adorning her blushing visage.

@❃ seo eun Silence briefly settled between them as they indulged in their awe towards the gardens. Taking it as a good omen, she sighed in relief at the impasse between them lifting at last, shoulders visibly relaxing as the tension and guilt from months ago was released from her. Hovering above them was the moon gleaming in the darkening sky.

Both angels and demons alike bask under the same light, and the maiden finds herself to be more acquainted with the latter these days.

Evidently, the other woman was grinning from ear to ear, nearly rattling on about her experience with this fine gentleman. Though that was before she lowered her voice in a hushed whisper and leaned close. Judging from the need to keep it within wraps, the man whose name she uttered—Baek Yejun, Yejin—was above her station, in a lofty position compared to the both of them. The seal, whilst repeating it in her mind, emanated elegance and wealth. After the kisaeng reared back to her position, Hana beamed at her. She had to hold back squealing from the elation she felt for her friend, as it was uncouth to show such displays of emotion.

“That is lovely! So it sounds as if you’re the poem, and he’s the poet. I really hope he continues to shower you with the comfort and adoration you deserve. Also, you should pay no heed to those papers! One who engages in excessive gossip shouldn’t be given so much regard.” Hana preached to the other, nearly mincing on her words as she was reminded of the tendrils of anxiety that swarm within her at the thought of appearing on the papers. Perhaps this was a lesson she needed to learn for herself.

Her attention from the gardens and her friend wavered as she began to search for the man she had been looking for. It felt like a second ago she was whisked by the love of her life, in the palace ballroom. Indulging in her imagination briefly, her gaze jumped from person to person, scanning which one matched up to the person in her mind. To no avail, she didn’t find a match. Upon hearing Eun’s inquiry, it felt her reverie was cut through by her honeyed voice.

“Oh! I’m sorry— As for myself, unfortunately, there is not much for me to tell. However, I did meet that particular man during the gala back in February…” And she had not seen him since, she wanted to say before her voice quieted at her last words.
❃ seo eun 1 week ago
@❃ jung hana Perhaps there was some truth to Hana’s words. In a way she might not have been where she was had it not been for said demons. Their push had made her reevaluate. Seeing the effect it had on the people around her had been the reasoning for why she had entered that gala experiment to begin with. So for as much as she despised them and what they had done to her, it was true that they had lead her to this very point, one way or another.

“As always you speak bluntly, yet… I cannot find a point to which I disagree with you. It is hard to see the positives that can stem from such situations until they are in your past.” Eun frowned a little when she heard the end of Hana’s little point, noticing the vague shift of her facial expression before the smile was back. “Hana…” The gisaeng sighed her name as her shoulders dropped. “You may act all high on your horse at times, but… I stepped out of line by saying you think yourself better than everyone. You are as human as I am. I do not really think you see yourself above everyone like that. You just want to think the best of everyone.” Perhaps she was being a bit too forgiving there, but Hana was her friend still, even through it all.

And as such she could not really fault her. Yes, she could at times act as if she was some kind of flawless being, but never once had she thought of it as malicious. Except for their fight of course, but that felt somewhat different. It wasn’t as if Hana had tried to wound her. In her own way she had tried to bring comfort, unwittingly stepping into the minefield that had been Eun’s psyche at the time.

“I should have never left that hanging over you for so long. You had just tried to help.” At least she could see that now. She could see and fully understand it once she had read Hana’s letter. Eun should never had let it go that far.

A sigh passed her lips, hurriedly followed by a small of cold autumn air to refill her lungs. No, this was not a thing to linger on any more. Eun had said her grievances, begged her forgiveness and been forgiven. That was all there was to say on that matter. Her gaze followed Hana’s around the garden, truly letting the splendour of the sight sink in. It was beautiful, like a private ever-changing portrait of a spot in the Hanhoe Gardens, secluded away from the rest only for them. It was no wonder the yangbans could walk around with their shoulders so relaxed if this was a sight they could freely peruse each day.

Her attention drew back to the friend by her side, a smile gently tugging at her features. “I… I guess there is some truth to that, yes. And yes, me and Lord Yejun Baek-“ The gisaeng stopped, giving a glance over her shoulder before leaning closer. “There might be more truth to it than I would usually give those vile papers.” The smile that had been playing behind her lips was now shining brightly with full force as she leaned back. “I have shared many a moment with that man, quietly nestled in his embrace. Oh, he is truly a poet of my heart,” Eun admitted.

“Hopefully that would explain my high spirits these days.” She turned her attention back to Hana, her hands clasped together before her in lieu of having something to do with them. “And what of you? I must admit I have tried avoiding the rumormill of the papers as much I can beyond seeing how it could reflect poorly on me… As selfish as that may sound…”

belying his jest was an earnest desire to have their relationship be official, more official than it can be at the moment. as they stroll along the gardens, he happened to run into his sister and brother-in-law as well, following his lover’s gaze towards the tiny children in their company.

listening to her question, he glanced at her, observing her face flush once she asked him. “hmm.” sangwook contemplated a bit. he did not mind the idea of having a child, but he pondered if his wife (or himself) were ready to venture into that stage of their relationship.

“should i? i’m not readily opposed however.. i want to know if you’re ready to be a mother first and foremost.”

@❃ seo eun A small giggle rose at Eun's playful retaliation at her phrasing of 'multiple conquests'. However, this time, she didn't feel a trace of envy. In its vacancy was genuine happiness for her friend in finding one that provided her comfort and stability amongst these turbulent times. Then it quickly died as she heard notes of contrition laced in her tone. Squeezing her hand gently before withdrawing it in tandem with her friend's timing, Hana gave her a glance, in which guilt from months ago lingered.

"I forgive you, Eun. Though you are aware about my strong feelings about demons... sometimes they can be helpful in their guidance as well. Without them, I wouldn't have known how hurt you feel towards my words at times. And how much of a fool I was to see myself to be above others." The persisting guilt caused a semblance of a frown to cross her face, in which was quickly faded to a small smile of contentment. Contentment was felt from the soft breeze brushing past them, carrying the well wishes from others to the newlyweds and those who sought to make their wedding wishes come true in the near future. For her, her thoughts were not consumed by the man she longed to see, but instead of the chances of reigniting her kindle that spurred her friendship with Eun.

As the pair continued to amble through the estate's gardens, it did not settle on her how spacious it was until this moment. Two, or almost three years, weren’t enough for Hana to completely adjust to the splendor of it all. Copious amounts of foliage surrounded them, all perfectly trimmed to the brim, despite autumn in its current reign. The Ryu’s control over the Ministry of Defense helped them reach the heights of luxury. Hushed whispers around the Ton spread news that the current Duke of Gwangju used to be a commoner in rag tags, but Hana dismissed that as a rumor, a tall tale to motivate those from the lower rungs of society to work harder to reap rewards. The look of awe on the gisaeng’s face has not gone unnoticed, which almost made Hana erupt into giggles had she not suppressed them.

“Hm, as I skimmed through the spring edition, I did briefly read the section on you and one of the lords from House of the Iris? But I can't say I have much recollection from my readings, nor do I believe they were slanderous in nature." Though the contents in the papers may not have satisfied the kisaeng, the radiance of delight softened Hana's features, even softer than they already were.

"I have to say, you seem to be in high spirits and I do not think it seemed to be related to this wedding."

grown from the cowardly, young boy he was, the marquess mustered enough courage to vow endlessly to the woman beside him and not commit the same mistakes his young self made, to ensure she stays by his side for eternity.

@❁ hong gureum Yeoreum's eyes narrowed when her sister turned her criticism of the food against her and pressed her lips together into a thin line. Gureum didn't even look at her as she spoke, her casually spoken words landing like a slap in the face. Was she not even worthy of being looked at when spoken to? Apparently not. Deep down, Yeoreum did not blame her. She felt plenty pathetic without others reminding her. Yeoreum pressed down the contempt rising within her and it was quickly covered by thick layer of insecurity and resignation. Her shoulders sank, her head tilting forward slightly as her gaze fell to her sister's skirt. "I'll just have different food...", she mumbled softly, incoherently.

Speaking of the decorations now she took the opportunity to look around once more, her gaze sweeping across the place and the pleasing sight quickly brought a small smile to her lips. It didn't last long. She grit her teeth and glared at Gureum. "I didn't! Don't make it sound like I did! I just said I like the decorations!", Yeoreum huffed in annoyance. Unfortunately, Gureum was not done serving her a cold, hard slice of reality. Knowing that her sister knew she had been hiding, and being called out for it so directly made her flush red in shame. She in her lower lip and bit down on it hard, her skirt wrinkling from how tightly she clenched it. "I wasn't-", she tried, "I wasn't- I."

She felt like crying but if only to not give her sister the satisfaction? of seeing her break into tears, she managed by some miracle to hold back the salty droplets. Her sister was right. This was the ideal place to meet someone. That had been Yeoreum's plan, the whole reason why she had put so much thought and effort into her appearance tonight... only to not even dare step into the crowd. She was never going to find a husband this way. She was going to be a failure and grow old and sick all alone with no one around her. And yet, she felt too ashamed to brazenly approach a Yangban bachelor, especially with so many beautiful Yangban women attending. If anyone saw her, a Sangmin in her short skirt, trying to chat with a Yangban bachelor they would surely laugh and then she'd be the gossip of the ton as a silly woman who didn't know her place. Yeoreum could not bare the thought of that. It scared her even more than growing old and sick all alone.

"...Maybe it would be okay, since you have already done it? And Areum definitely would have, so...", her voice trailed off. Yeoreum raised a hand and pulled a strand of hair forward over her shoulder, tugging at it nervously.

@❁ cheon suho Renowned for her confidence and her knack for captivating any room she entered, Riah found herself unusually self-conscious under Suho's gaze. Perhaps it stemmed from the fact that Suho had known her before she underwent numerous changes years ago. She pondered whether he still recalled everything that had occurred between them—and if he didn't, she considered it a relief. The countess reassured herself that he probably forgot about her entirely after she ceased communication; even his messages, which dwindled over time, ceased altogether. She held no grudge against him, as she had not responded to any of them.

The countess had learned acceptance during the years they were apart. She had grown accustomed to wishing him happiness from a distance, believing that his chapter in her life had closed. Yet, here they were, face to face once again.

When she inquired about his wife, she was met with a noticeable change in his once bright demeanor, now clouded with sadness and discomfort. Her question seemed to evoke a sorrowful response she hadn't anticipated.

The last time she heard about him was at his wedding. After that, Riah stopped keeping up with his life or asking mutual acquaintances about him. So, when he instructed his daughter to go on ahead, Riah watched the little girl with a mixture of politeness and a spark of excitement in her strides. In a way, the girl reminded Riah of her younger self, before she imposed upon herself the changes and constraints that now defined her.

"She... she passed away in childbirth."

Those words instantly filled Riah with regret. She found herself at a loss for words to apologize for unintentionally stirring up such tragedy and pain. Opening , then closing it again, she struggled to express how deeply sorry she was. Comfort was not her forte, especially when she herself was the cause of sorrow.

"I... I didn't know. I'm sorry, Suho orabeoni," Riah spoke, using his name once more. It didn't feel right to address him formally, not when they were discussing something so personal.

"Gods.. I should not have asked."

How much had he suffered all these years, and how much of it had he managed to conceal beneath the countless smiles he showed everyone? Suddenly, they were strangers once more, both unaware of the trials and tribulations each had endured during the eight years they were apart.

"I've been well, I suppose... And you were right about one thing. No one has wanted wed me since I shed tears in front of you," Riah jested in an attempt to lighten the dampened mood she had caused. Unconsciously, she toyed with the jade ring on her right index finger—a familiar old habit.

@✿ seol riah It felt awfully strange to be standing in the same light as Seol Riah. For Suho, this strangeness is both bitter and sweet. There’s a veil of guilt that still sat on his shoulders as he remembered their last encounter eight years ago. He can still picture the pained expression of hers when tears fell from her eyes, and how he had been unable to offer her proper comfort, unable to ease her discomfort that day. In the aftermath, she had retreated and silence became too familiar between them that it had shut him out until today.

A ‘dear friend’ they both referred to one another, yet despite the confusion that had lingered between them, Suho couldn't bring himself to drop the tag. If Riah was not his friend, then what else could she be?

When Riah voiced her concern about his wife's absence, Suho felt his breath catch in his throat. His hand, that had been holding Saebom’s small one, unconsciously tightened. Yet, he remained composed despite the slight shake of his orbs. Adjusting his view onto his daughter’s he gently said, “Bommie, why don’t you head to the dessert table first? Appa will be there soon.”

He softly let go of her little hand, watching as Saebom obediently made her way towards the dessert table without him. His heart swelled with pride and a twinge of sadness. She was growing up so quickly, and he couldn't help but wish that her mother was here to witness it all.

Turning back to Riah, he lightly cleared his throat. The words hung in the air between them heavily, but he finally spoke the truth. "Myunghe—" he said quietly, "She... she passed away in childbirth."

Despite the revelation being one tainted with sorrow, Suho tried his best to turn the conversation to a brighter light. "Saebom is a bright child, and she is doing well. We are doing our best to move forward, one day at a time."

He watched her closely, his brown eyes searching her face for any hint of discomfort in the conversation. But as he looked into her eyes, he found himself wondering about whether she had faced any hardships during the time they’ve last met. "Riah," he began softly, "how have you been? How have these past eight years treated you?"

@✿ oh bitna As they approached the refreshment table, Jaehoon couldn't help but be awestruck by the elaborate spread laid out before them. The table was adorned with an array of delicacies, from traditional sweets to exotic fruits, each offering a tantalizing glimpse into the culinary delights of the evening.

Jaehoon's gaze swept over the offerings, his eyes lingering on the meticulously arranged assortment. Despite the tempting variety of drinks available, Jaehoon resisted the allure of alcohol, opting instead for simplicity. He reached for a delicate blend of tea, knowing full well his own capacity and preferring to enjoy the festivities with a clear mind. As he poured himself a cup, the fragrant aroma enveloped him, soothing his senses amidst the bustling atmosphere of the celebration.

Settling at an empty table, Jaehoon took a moment to appreciate the ambiance, the soft glow of lanterns casting a warm hue over the festivities. A servant approached with a tray of sweet biscuits, and Jaehoon graciously accepted, his admiration for the spread evident in the way he examined each treat with genuine interest.

With a polite smile, Jaehoon offered the tray to Bitna. "Would you care for some?" he asked, his tone warm and inviting.

With a soft chuckle, Jaehoon turned his attention back to Bitna, his eyes reflecting a genuine warmth as he spoke. "My evening has been... eventful, to say the least," he admitted, his voice tinged with amusement. "But having your company has made it all the more enjoyable."

He paused for a moment, reflecting on his own disposition towards such festivities. "I must confess, I'm not a regular at gatherings like these," he confessed, his tone thoughtful. "I often keep myself between work and home. But tonight has been a pleasant surprise, thanks to you, Marchioness Oh."

@✿ park yeonghan [h] In the midst of her attempt to run from him, Nabi had forgotten to ensure that he had not followed her. Perhaps that is why she is taken aback when he appears in her peripheral vision, the shock sounding in the form of a small gasp that escaped her lips. In a way, the woman thinks she should have expected this — that he would follow, because if there is anything Park Yeonghan was good at, it was the ability to find her as if she was a lighthouse that guided his path.

With every step he takes closer, she finds herself taking one back until her back meets the wall of one of the hanok buildings scattered along the sprawling grounds of the Ryu estate. She is now effectively trapped in this moment with him, and the knowledge has her heart pounding against her ribcage so loudly it starts to drown out the sound of the wedding festivities a ways away from them.

Nabi opens to reply—to answer his question and tell him to go like she did all those months ago—but he cuts her off before she is able to. Then he speaks, bringing his hand up to cup her cheek, and she absolutely detests the way that her body leans into his touch.

With him, she had always craved more than they were allowed. Despite how much time had passed and how much distance had grown between them, it seemed Park Yeonghan would always have this damning effect on her. The recognition of his presence alone was enough to shatter any façade of composure she had carefully crafted and even the slight touch of his hand brought with it a warmth that would burn her inside.

“Young Master . . .” is all she is able to murmur, meeting his gaze with the same amount of desperation and yearning visible in her eyes. Time almost slows as she watches his eyes flicker to her lips, and for the briefest of moments, Nabi finds herself wishing that he would.

It did not matter that they were outside just a couple hundred feet away from perhaps the entire population of Hanseong. She wants him to kiss her and she wants to kiss him back.

She finds herself holding her breath when he starts to lean in, but then the reality of their situation falls upon her like a cold bucket of water, and she turns her face away at the last moment so their lips would not meet.

Yet Yeonghan does not stop in his movements as she had expected him to and his lips find a home in the curvature of her neck. The sensation sends a shiver down her spine, igniting a wildfire of desire within her that threatens to consume all reason. She feels his warmth enveloping her and is too aware of his breath ghosting over her skin like a whispered promise of everything she’s ever longed for.

“Young Master,” his namesake comes out in an airy breath that reprimands him and her hands press gently against his chest, a feeble attempt to push him away even as her heart aches to pull him closer.

With a trembling exhale, she musters every ounce of resolve she possesses and takes a step to the side, putting a safe distance between them. She meets Yeonghan’s gaze, her eyes pleading with him to understand and respect the boundaries they must uphold for both of their sakes.

“We cannot,” she whispers, her voice barely above a breath. “Not like this. Not ever.”

But there is no way to undo what has been done, and so Nabi turns away from him with a heavy heart, her steps faltering slightly as she makes her way back towards the festivities.

@✿ ryu songmin miryeong's other hand rose to soothe over his forearm, attempting to further ease him in this core moment as an older sibling. his reaction affected her and equally made her emotional with the thought of her own younger sister marrying. miryeong only hoped that she would have the strength and grace he had in parting with his sister in name. an easy tear slipped from her eye, and her hand quickly lifted to wipe it away.

"you are quite right," she agreed, the smile on her face unfading. "how quickly time flies. sometimes i wish it would slow down for moments like these."

at the mention of his father, miryeong had only heard of things in passing about the man--not all unpleasant but neither all pleasant as well, but the expression written across his face was somewhat telling to the sinking feeling that settled in her stomach. would the duke willingly accept her into their family? would he even allow a union to happen between his son and her? or would she be cast aside for someone more suitable and to the duke's liking? noticing his attempt to deter the attention away from the subject of his father, miryeong modestly beamed at his apology.

"i also find it surprising that it has held up well; however, i do not mind the timing in the least . . . especially since the one that has requested is quite handsome. and wears the jeogori extremely dashingly," she offered him a coquettish glance as her hand brushed over his chest---but that was all that she allowed herself, not wanting to get too carried away in the presence of other guests.

"would this be a good time to properly introduce me to your parents or should we hold off until the near future, my lord?"

@❃ kwon nabi Before he has a chance to respond to her myriad of hopeful questions, she is apologizing and departing from his side as she had done countless of times before. His hand reaches out to her, to stop her but by then, it is too late. Her hand has left with her, and Yeonghan is watching, unfulfilled and confused as she walks further from him. He wishes she would stop leaving. Maybe she found it easier to escape her feelings by being away from him, but the thought of her never left him---whether they were in the presence of each other or apart. In the months between that separated them, Yeonghan felt mad, tortured by the knowledge that she was only a few paces away, but he could not reach her. It was a hunger--a longing that vined from the deepest depths of his being that could not be satiated—not even by the thought of her. If he had to choose between the two, he'd rather be consumed by his desire for her than to be starved of her. So he follows her.

While other guests are enraptured by the nuptial bliss and buzz, Yeonghan follows Nabi unsuspecting but hurriedly. It is not until she turns around that he realizes they had reached a garden of some sort—but it is a minor detail that he quickly forgets as he meets her gaze, slightly disheveled from the brisk walk and the confusion, that which felt evermore torrential with each step they'd taken to end up here.

"Will you let me answer your question before you leave so abruptly?" he begged in a gentle manner. "Why ask if you are only going to turn away?" It's a rhetorical question he asks and only allows a millisecond of silence to pass before he speaks again, closing the distance between them with each step he takes towards her.

"Yes, Byeol, I wish for it to be us one day. We will brave the storm together as we always have, you and me. Despite all that has been inflicted upon us, every ill will, every doubt, we are still here, are we not? And we always find each other, effortlessly."

He nears close enough to reach up with his hand to hold her cheek in the safety of his palm, his thumb soothing over the highest points of her cheekbone. There's a slow surrendering in his posture, like the feel of her soft skin against his hand is enough to bring him to his knees. His voice quiets despite it being just the two of them. "Can't you see how much I want you in my life, Nabi?"

In their proximity as he awaits her response, his thumb mindlessly paints over the corner of her lips. His gaze drops to them and only a moment of question briefs his mind before he abandons all sensible thought and leans in, in attempt to seal their lips in a kiss.

@✿ yoon junho byungjun’s discomfort grew as he navigated the wedding crowd, feeling like a fish out of water among strangers. he barely knew anyone here, and the only reason he was in attendance was to accompany junho, his presence hidden to maintain their secret relationship. and… well, who didn’t enjoy a beautiful wedding? he had never been to one.

his heart raced as he scanned the crowd, searching for his lover amidst the sea of faces. he knew they had to act casually, their love hidden from prying eyes, but it didn’t make the search any less nerve-wrecking. spotting him near the back, byungjun made his way towards him, his steps careful and measured. as he approached, he tried to keep his expression neutral, masking the joy and relief he felt at finding his lover.

“enjoying the wedding?” byungjun asked, trying to sound casual as he joined junho’s side. he stole a glance at the newlyweds, hoping his façade was convincing.
✿ kim yejoon 2 weeks ago
@✿ go yeonhwa (née ryu) in the stillness of the night, yejoon’s voice filled the air, his words a lament woven with threads of sorrow and longing. “so this is it then?” his voice, soft yet filled with anguish, hung heavy in the air, a poignant melody of unfulfilled dreams and shattered hopes.

drawing closer, he gazed into her eyes, searching for a glimpse of the love he had so fervently believed in. “I thought I saw a reflection of my soul in your eyes, a kindred spirit bound to mine by an invisible thread of fate. but now, as I stand before you, I see only the cold reality of your rejection, a rejection that cuts deeper than any blade.” her words echoed in his mind, each syllable a dagger to his heart. “I don’t love you in the way you want me to.” the words stung, a bitter reminder of the love he had lost before it had even begun.

he felt a surge of anger, followed by a wave of sadness. how could she not see the depth of his love, the sincerity of his feelings? how could she dismiss them so easily, as if they were nothing more than a passing fancy? but beneath the anger and the sadness, there was a profound sense of loss, of a dream that had been shattered beyond repair. he had dared to hope, to believe that she would feel the same way, only to have those hopes dashed against the rocks of reality.

yejoon pondered her question and thoroughly considered her plea for his blessing with a gaze hovering upon the dirt beneath his shoes. slowly, he shook his head. “I cannot give you my blessing, yeonhwa,” he said quietly, his voice filled with sorrow. “I cannot watch you marry another man, knowing that it could have been me by your side. I wish you well, I truly do. but I cannot pretend that I am happy about this, that I can just wish you happiness and move on.”

he turned away, his heart heavy with sorrow, his mind clouded with the pain and the numbness of too much alcohol. he tilts his head up to look at the stars, often wishing that if he extended his hand towards them, that his father would take hold and guide him. guilt sat upon his chest, weighing him down. his father wouldn’t have been proud of the man that he had become. he raises a hand to wipe a tear from his cheek, the same hand following a swift path through his strands.

“I will be leaving, yeonhwa,” he nodded, as if he had already made up his mind. he hadn’t really, not until this moment. it was true that he had received word that his twin was sick back in Incheon, yet it hadn’t quite gotten to a point of concern. this confirmation is all he needed to decide that he was needed back at home where he could care for his brother and can no longer burden the person, he loved the very most in this world. “I will go back to Incheon, so I will assume that I will not be able to attend the grand event.” he certainly could have planned to return for the wedding if he had the date in advance, but he wouldn't tell yeonhwa that. it would be too painful to attend.

turning to look back at her, a pained smile taints his features. “though, I am sure it will be beautiful. I wish you well.”

@✿ moon hyeongwon hyeongwon's chuckle against her lips felt like melody to her ears, a tune that continuously lulled the storm that remained ever so present within her. from the moment she chose to free her truest emotions, it seemed so easy to fall for everything that was this man, to openly gaze at him with the knowledge that he, too, will look back. perhaps, they have been waiting all this time. what if the gods were just preparing them for the right moment no matter how long it would take?

"wedding — are we in courtship now, hmm?" eunbyeol squeezed his hand that lingered in hers, running her thumb gently along the ring she's given him. perhaps, her wishes of wearing another is not too far-fetched. maybe. . .maybe dreaming of a future with him was something that she's already manifested after sending that letter to the parks just days ago.

the marchioness chose to stay silent for a moment as she pondered. when she had gotten her answer, she softly replied, her gaze still lingering amongst the crowd, "even if none of them would come i'd still wed you." her words were a promise; she knew he'd understand.

"though, that's highly unlikely. we need a witness, after all." her head turned to peer up at him, and the smile on her face widened, the corners of her lips almost reaching her ears. how could she stop the giddiness that rushed through her at the thought? hyeongwon was being wistful of an unspoken future for them both and underneath the stars in the sky, his eyes were alight with hope.

"what i am saying is that i prefer a private occasion — would eommeoni agree, however? she has been waiting all her life to wed you both. furthermore, it is i who shall be wed to you." eunbyeol laughed at the amusing thought. "madame shall be having the time of her life but of course, i suppose you shall have a say in this too?"

@❁ cheon suho Certainly not from the alcohol—Riah had only sipped on one glass before unexpectedly encountering the man before her. Yet, she could swear her face grew warm as memories from years past, long buried in the depths of her mind, resurfaced. Her youthful antics had faded with time, but in the presence of Cheon Suho, Riah sensed herself reverting to a younger version of herself. However, this time, there was no uncomfortable pang in her chest—only nostalgic recollections and perhaps a hint of embarrassment for her juvenile behavior in the past.
She effortlessly dons the perfect facade, replacing the wide-eyed look she wore when she nearly stumbled.

As the countess took a closer look at the man before her, she noticed that he hadn't changed much. Perhaps the corners of his eyes bore more lines from countless smiles, and maybe there was a newfound air of maturity after eight years had passed. Yet, he remained handsome in a princely, fairytale-like manner—one that was charming and captivating. Despite Riah's attempts to banish his image from her mind, she found herself failing; his brown eyes still gleamed brightly, especially when he lovingly glanced at his daughter.

"Ah, Saebom... It's lovely to meet you, you're so beautiful." The countess smiled warmly at the little girl. Despite her limited experience with children, she made an effort not to intimidate the child with excessive formality. When Saebom bowed, the countess returned the gesture with a gentle curtsy.
It seemed that Suho still saw her as a close friend, their connection seemingly untouched by time—like unpolished steel stored away. Perhaps to him, she remained the little sister figure he once cherished. However, Riah couldn't refuse the girl's father now, could she? She maintained a friendly smile towards Saebom, being careful not to show any hostility towards her father, who felt simultaneously familiar yet distant.

"And he's also a dear friend of mine," she replied, maintaining the polite smile that graced her features.
As time passed, Riah began to wonder what was taking his wife so long. Could she be lost? The Ryu estate was vast, and with so many guests in attendance, it wouldn't be surprising if someone got turned around.
Unaware of the latter's lingering gaze upon her, Riah scanned the crowd for a woman who appeared disoriented. Finding no one who fit the description nearby, she eventually turned back to him, politely preparing to inquire. She hoped her question wouldn't come across as rude; surely the little girl beside him had a mother.

"I couldn't help but notice the absence of your wife. Do you think she might be lost? The estate is so grand, and with all these guests present...she might have gotten lost on her way back" A touch of concern crept into her expression as she voiced her worry.

@✿ geum eunbyeol Her laughter alone illuminated Hyeongwon's world as if nothing else mattered. Reflecting on their journey, it had been a series of back-and-forth struggles, moments of conflict until they discovered how to support each other. Even in the fading light of the setting sun, the marquess couldn't ignore the blush that adorned his beloved's face after their stolen kiss. It was these rare moments that he cherished the most.

As soon as he pulled away from the sneaky kiss he had stolen, Hyeongwon found himself gently tugged back down by the marchioness, her grip firm on his gatkkeun. He couldn't help but chuckle against Eunbyeol's tiers as her lips lingered briefly against his before she pulled away, pretending as if she hadn't just initiated another kiss.

"Impertinent? You're the one who practically lured me in for another," he teased, returning the smile that adorned her lips soon after—a smile reserved exclusively for him.
In that fleeting moment, amid their playful exchange, Hyeongwon felt an overwhelming surge of affection for the marchioness, knowing that her smiles and kisses were gifts meant only for him.

"Have you ever wondered if anyone outside our family would come to our wedding?" Hyeongwon blurted out, his gaze fixed on the bustling crowd before them. He preferred lingering in their quiet corner rather than diving back into the mingling masses. Even as they briefly withdrew their hands for the sake of propriety, he kept hold of hers, unwilling to let go just yet.

@❃ jung hana “Fear not, Hana. You only managed to startle me a tad,” Eun chuckled halfhearted, a sheepish smile lingering on her lips. It was honestly good to see the way Hana smiled. It was an innocent expression that made her already delicate features almost glow.

How long had it really been since she allowed herself to think of Hana? They had been such close friends at one point, and yet it had all faded to nothing after that night on the dock. Or rather, Eun had let it fade to nothing. In place of what had once been there she had fled away from what had been, as if Hana was in any way to blame for all that had happened. Looking back on that night she could so easily see all the faults she had let slip in under the cracks, how she had allowed her self doubt swallow her and thus take it out on Hana. The only crime she had ever committed had been trying to help, and Eun had blown up in her face.

“Yes. Yes, yes, that sounds like a great idea,” the gisaeng agreed with a final glance in the direction of where she had seen the Marquess just a few moments earlier. It had seemed he had blended back in with the crowd somewhere else. Anywhere but here in the room with him would be a welcomed break. And if it gave her the chance to hopefully begin repaving the path of friendship between them, then all the better.

A small laughter passed her lips at the notion of calling what had happened adventures. She had not gone many places since their last meeting, having instead settled into a routine of comfort and wellbeing that had helped her slowly build back what had been broken. Thanks to Yejun and the time she had gotten with him she finally began feeling more like herself again, the person that Hana had gotten to know once in the past. She hurried to fall into step near Hana’s side, trying not to dawdle behind as she began showing her the path towards the gardens and their finely kept trees. To think there truly were those so rich they could have the likes of the Hanhoe Gardens within their own estate grounds.

Eun’s attention drew back to Hana, shooting the woman a stern but playful look. “You need to stop this talk of multiple conquests. I have but one man I care for in that way, and no, not because I made myself fall for him as I said.” A small sigh passed her lips as she stopped, gently reaching out to grab Hana’s hand. “No… I truly owe you an apology, Hana. I let my worst demons lead my actions that night, and judged you for the things I myself was doing. It was not right to leave you with the burden and blame for what was spurred on by me.” Her slender fingers squeezed gently before letting go, not wanting to push the other woman’s boundaries too much.

“Well… I guess the natural place to begin would be the papers,” Eun began, lips pursed ever so slightly. “Did you read the latest two editions of that while slander?”
