@✾ tsukino sayuri There was something about the other’s brightness that softened Jinye’s resolve. Earlier she had been gazing at the garden with dejection and gloom, but now with company beside her, she could allow the woe within her to take a break. With a soft sigh, her eyes lingered on the garden briefly, before meeting the others as she listened intently to the recent stories and experiences about her stay in Joseon where she was so far from home.

“Now that you’ve learned more about the language and culture, you seem more comfortable,” Jinye commented thoughtfully. “It's good to see you adapting so well, Sayuri-chan, it must have not been easy to do so being so far from home.”

Jinye couldn’t help but admire how Sayuri was able to effortlessly integrate into the foreign country. It was a quality that Jinye both admired and envied, for she often found herself trapped in the rigid expectations of her own society, unable to express herself as freely as she would like.

“Unfortunately, I haven't had much chance to enjoy the festival,” she admitted with a small smile with a brief excuse, “as I am a bit under the weather. However, the view from this window is sufficient, don’t you think so?”

As the maids returned with treats and tea, Jinye naturally offered the poured tea to the other. “Though I am happy to hear that you have settled well into the Seol estate. I have grown up with them since a young age, so I know the characters of Countess Seol and the young lords well.” She watched Sayuri with a gentle gaze, “I hope they have been welcoming of you during this festive season.”

@✿ song jinye To get a praise from a friend, especially one such as Song Jinye, had to be listed as one of the greatest joys in life. Sayuri, in her mental state and no doubt in her diary later that date, would take note of this. Sayuri could not help the apples of her cheeks lifting and firming, a tinge of bashful redness colouring them in the proper colour befitting of an apple. Sayuri was the type to get shy easily, but not from praises. Perhaps, Jinye’s sincere one had made that change in her ever so slight.

“Your Nihongo is impeccable, as expected.” Sayuri grinned, keeping her language in Jinye’s native tongue. Though she had no doubt Jinye was good with the language, Sayuri had noticed while in Joseon, how she had the bad habit of using big words. It was like this in Joseonmal as well, but at least, these people could understand her. “I had been practicing here and there. The Seol Estate’s servants are so polite and kind, as well as Countess Seol Riah and my instructor. In the month we’ve been apart, I think I am… Expanding my… Understanding!”

Sayuri dipped her head in a respective bow towards the attendant and joined Jinye to where she was led. From the window, the blossoms and flora had never looked so beautiful. Gazing at them in such a way made Sayuri yearn to go out and feel their soft skin underneath her fingertips. She opted for the silk at Jinye’s seat, imagining them not feeling much different.

“I have not, dismally.” Sayuri pouted, looking out to the beauty of the Song Estate. “I was a little… Scared to go out to the streets of Hanseong by my lonesome. While my party would no doubt accompany me, they are just as unfamiliar with the land as I am. And, the people in the Estate I have been staying with have been so busy with other matters, I did not want to be a bother to them.” Pursing her lips, Sayuri tore her eyes away from the view to look towards Jinye’s face. “Have you been able to go out and enjoy the festival? I have heard it is absolutely divine on a sunny day such as today.”

@❁ hong yeoreum She had been sitting in the courtyard of her family’s estate, watching the doves that her mother carefully tended to through the days revel in the garden. Blossomed flowers wafted floral scents throughout the vicinity, and large lily pads floated on the surface of the glassy pond. The sky was clear, a soft hue of blue as the perfectly circular sun danced in the sky with all it’s golden glory.

Jinye brought her teacup to her lips, savoring the sweet, delectable taste of honey and chamomile when her lady-in-waiting, Muyeo approached her, alerting that there was a visitor at the gates who wished to see her.

The daughter from the House of Doves does not get many visitors despite her status or familiar standings. She is a rather private person, keeping few people near, but at the same time, her caution was always a thin line of carefulness and impulsiveness. Her acquaintance with a wide range of people from all walks of life not only showcased her willingness to hear other people’s stories, but also allowed respite toward the barriers that divided society into different social ranks.

"A visitor?" Jinye mused aloud, a hint of curiosity tinting her tone. "Who is it?"

Muyeo bowed slightly before replying, "A young woman named Hong Yeoreum, my lady. She requests an audience with you."

Hong Yeoreum. The name sparked a flicker of recognition in Jinye's mind, remembering tender hands that worked precisions on needles, the ones that tended to her ailing brother when he was in his most vulnerable state. If not for her patience and expertise, perhaps the Song family may have succumbed to more tragedies than fortunes.

"Let her in," Jinye instructed, “and inform the household to prepare refreshments."

Muyeo bowed again before departing swiftly to carry out her lady's orders. Jinye remained seated, her thoughts drifting as she waited for Yeoreum to be escorted into the estate.

@✿ song jinye Yeoreum had been looking forward to this all week. Every morning she would wake up and ask herself 'How many days left until I go see Lady Song again?', and every day her smile would grow. It was a blessed thing to have something to look forward. At times, the dreary day to day had her terribly depressed. It had been years since the fall of the Hong clan and Yeoreum had naturally grown familiar to her new circumstances, but her heart longed for the past. That was one of the reasons why she loved visiting Lady Song. She was not just a lovely person, she also happened to live in a very lovely estate. Parts of it reminded her of the former Hong estate. She had changed out her usual rough cotton hanbok into a finer material and carefully cleaned her silk shoes. Despite how frequently Yeoreum complained about her current circumstances she was, by all accounts, incredibly fortunate. Years back a wealthy Jungin woman had taken a fancy to her, launching her career as an acupuncturist and introducing her to a wide network of fine clientele. The Song clan was one such client, no, it had been her most important client. Thanks to a whim of that Jungin lady, she had met Lady Song and gained a second female figure in her life she cherished deeply.

Yeoreum stood in front of the gates, cheeks flushed. She was nervous suddenly and fidgeted with the bow of her hanbok. She wanted to look nice for Lady Song. Just because she was Sangmin now she shouldn't embarrass Lady Song by appearing dishevelled. Yeoreum pressed a hand over heart and closed her eyes, taking three deep breaths. Her mind expanded and latched onto the sounds around her. The sounds of the birds, distant chatter, footsteps and what remained of the leaves rustling. She remained in that way until she felt calm once more. Then, she put a smile on her face on knocked on the gates. A guard opened the door and looked at her questioningly. Yeoreum blushed and cleared . "I'm here to visit Lady Song. My name is Hong Yeoreum." The guard nodded and closed the door again, leaving Yeoreum standing outside, once again growing nervous. No, no, it was all fine. She just had to wait a moment. Yeoreum nodded to herself and looked down at the ground. With the ball of her foot she drew the Song family name into the dirt and smiled, her heart warming.

@✾ tsukino sayuri Although she had remained isolated for some days now, Jinye was rather perplexed when she received news that there was a guest requesting her audience. The daughter from the House of Doves, rarely received visitors as many of her closest companions were well aware that she usually enjoyed her solitude within the walls of her estate, and in order to meet with her, they would send letters to set an appointment.

However, the name Tsukino Sayuri was enough to immediately spike her intrigue.

She rose from the satin divan situated near the window of her chamber that overlooked the lavish courtyard of her family’s estate. In summer, various flowers bloomed beneath the sun, and the breeze would blow the floral scents throughout her private quarters. When Tsukino Sayuri, a new acquaintance and immediate friend, walked through the doors, it seemed even the flowers would bow down to her whims for how could there be a goddess among the land of mortals?

Jinye greeted with a grasp of the other’s hands and a limited fluency of the foreign language, “Sayuri-chan, how have you been?” However, to her astonishment, the other was able to communicate with ease in her native tongue this time around. For the first time in days, she was able to let out a small chuckle. “You’ve improved,” she praised, “and I’m sure with time you’ll master the language.”

She turned to her maid, “Muyeo, serve tea please and some of the finest snacks we have for our esteemed guest.” As her instructions ensued, she led Sayuri back to the divan for them to take a seat and admire the flowers.

“How have you been, my friend?” She asked, “have gone sightseeing around the capital yet?”

@✿ song jinye 【 backdated to july 1869 】

How the land enchanted.

Sayuri had stared up at the estate before her, familiar, as she had seen it on that fateful day where she met Song Jinye and had made her way into the capital city of Joseon. Yet, in the golden summer light, the estate looked exquisite. Sayuri took her time entering, stating her name and intention to the guards, and had strolled in to meet her friend.

It had been some time since they had last met, settling in had taken much longer than Sayuri thought, and she had heard that Jinye's return had been tumultuous too. She did not know the details, had refused to listen as she would not indulge herself into the ways of gossip. If Jinye, her dear friend, had wanted to share these issues with her, then she would listen to her. That was the least Sayuri could do.

Entering the state, Sayuri looked around curiously to the decorations and furniture that popped out at her. The differences in her estate and the Songs were minute, but Sayuri could see the differences here and there. Likely due to the difference in culture between their two homelands, to the point the estate, and the one she lived in, had been unfamiliar, but was similar enough for Sayuri to not feel like a fish out of water.

Upon reaching Jinye's personal chambers, led there by a servant, Sayuri's smile beamed as she caught sight of the girl she had missed dearly in the while they had been apart.

"Lady Jinye," The servant spoke, announcing Sayuri's arrival. "Tsukino Sayuri is here to see you."

The servant stood to the side as Sayuri approached, outstretching her hands to join with Jinye's in an affectionate greeting. "Jinye, oh, how I have missed you. I have been utterly perishing at the idea of not being able to see you before the season ends, and the... Event, comes to pass. The estate I am staying at has been teaching me much Joseonmal since we met, I can now make full sentences!"

@✿ song jihoo Jinye observed her brother's reaction, a faint smile playing on her lips as she noted the subtle change in his demeanor. His cheeks that were tinged with warmth, a reaction that was out of his normally composed nature. She found it endearing, a testament to the depths of his feelings for the youngest daughter from the House of the Willow.

Yet, upon his confession, she couldn't help but chuckle with a genuine happiness in her eyes. Love at first sight—it sounded like a tale from a romantic story, and yet, seeing the sincerity in Jihoo's eyes, she knew it wasn't an act. His emotions were laid bare, completely open, and filled with a newfound light that she hadn't seen in him before.

"Jihoo-yah," her tone was gentle but reassuring as she gripped his hand with her mobile one. "Love is such a wonderful thing and it's definitely nothing to be shy about." A soft sigh fell from as she considered the circumstances. "It seems like young Lady Ryu must be an extraordinary woman to have captured your heart so quickly." She could sense that there was a mix of emotions within him, perhaps excitement and nervousness, and maybe a hint of worry as well.

Indeed with considerations to their family's ties to the Queen's court that played like a labyrinth of alliances and rivalries, their father's complicated relationship with Duke Ryu was another layer of difficulty to the situation. She couldn't deny feeling a sense of worry for Jihoo, knowing the potential challenges that might arise from the lovebirds' differing backgrounds.

"I've heard about the tensions between our father and Duke Ryu," she said, her expression was slightly more serious, but still held a bit of reassurance. "However, Jihoo-yah, you should follow your heart. If young Lady Ryu is the one who makes you feel this way, then that's something precious. It may take some convincing to get through our father at first, but love has a way of softening even the hardest hearts, doesn't it?"

She reached out and placed a comforting hand on her brother's shoulder. "Young Lady Ryu is a lovely girl, and I can see that she makes you happy. Don't let anything stand in the way of your happiness. As your sister, I support you."

@✿ song jinye Jihoo felt the fragile stillness of the room as he cradled Jinye's unmoving hand against his cheek. The unspoken weight of her condition settled in the air, a reality that hung between them. His touch was gentle, a silent acknowledgment of the challenges ahead. Yet, as their hands intertwined, a quiet assurance passed between them, a testament to the resilient bond they shared as siblings.

His sister's words carried a mixture of gratitude and determination, and he could feel the depth of her resolve. The unspoken pact to keep her secret was etched in the silence, an understanding that transcended spoken language.

"You do not need to thank me, my dear sister. We are always in this together," he responded, his voice a soft murmur. The promise to help her regain the use of her arm was accompanied by a warmth that emanated from the depths of his heart. Her belief in their ability to overcome this adversity fueled his determination.

Her assurance that they would find a way brought a small but genuine smile to his lips. "Yes, we will. You are not alone in this, and I will do whatever it takes to help you," he pledged, his gaze unwavering.

Her acknowledgment of the courage he brought to her struck a chord within him. "I have always looked up to you, Jinye. It was you that had always pushed me to become braver and work towards what I want. I promise that we will face this and we will emerge stronger," he replied, his eyes reflecting a quiet resolve.

As she suggested a momentary reprieve from the weighty discussions, Jihoo welcomed the respite. Her request to hear about his experiences outside the clinic drew his attention away from the looming uncertainties. However, her sudden realization about the citizen task force meetings brought a subtle shift in the atmosphere. He watched as her eyes widened with a spark of curiosity, and he sensed an unspoken connection between her observations and the peculiar air she had sensed.

"The Ryus are indeed intriguing," he replied, the softest warmth enveloping his cheeks as he found the ceilings of the clinic to be way more interesting than meeting his sister’s knowing gaze. "Don’t laugh at me, Jinye. It is just…" he paused, his mind immediately thinking about the female that had invaded his thoughts since he first laid eyes on her. “...love at first sight?”

@✿ song jihoo Jinye felt the weight of her brother's unspoken concerns as he gently cupped her immobile hand against his cheek. The truth of the situation became apparent with the serious acceptance that she could not feel a single sensation to the touch. However, it was a silent affirmation of the unbreakable bond the siblings shared. Even though the situation was dire and the future was uncertain, Jinye was sure of one thing: if there was anyone in this world that she would never hesitate to sacrifice for, it would be her dearest brother.

With her left hand, she reached over to grasp his hands. Their shared understanding spanned beyond the spoken words and an agreement to carry the burden of her secret together seemed to have been woven in the silence.

"Thank you, Jihoo-yah, your support means the world to me," her voice was a blend of appreciation and determination. "I believe that, with time, everything will be okay again. Just bear this secret until then, okay?"

Her brother's pledge to help her regain the use of her arm warmed her heart. "We'll find a way," she assured him, her eyes reflecting her resilience to overcome this situation. "I believe I can do anything with you on my side. I feel like I can conquer anything, no matter what it is that lies ahead. You make me feel very brave, do you know that?"

She tried to smile, despite the uncertainties that may come or the unspoken promises they made for themselves and each other, in that moment, Jinye felt as if they were warriors united for battle against the challenges fate would present them.

Jinye wanted to give her brother a moment of peace in that room, away from the rest of the worries that she may bring ahead. She wanted him to take a deep breath and forget about the uncertainty for a little while. So, she smiled and said to him, "Let's not talk about this anymore tonight, okay? I want to hear what you've been up to. Tell me about what is happening outside, Jihoo-yah."

Despite her injuries, her mind was still focused on the picture outside the of clinic. The task force and their purpose, but also... She raised her head slightly, a sudden curiosity shown in her eyes. "Wait..." she realized, "if you have been here, have you not been attending the meetings with the citizen task force?"

Jinye's eyes widened. "I'm sure I noticed something... strange in the air during the days I was there in attendance." She hinted, staring closely at her brother, as the corner of her lips curled upwards. "The Ryus are quite an interesting sight, don't you think?"

@✿ song jinye Jihoo's breath caught in his throat as the weight of reality settled upon him like a heavy shroud. The soft and almost reassuring tone of his sister's voice could not mask the gravity of the situation. Jinye, with her now-disabled arm, faced a formidable challenge, and Jihoo, despite his composed exterior, felt the tremors of anxiety coursing through him. He knew her, understood her dreams and aspirations, and the potential setbacks this new reality posed. All these years, he knew how much she wanted to prove her worth to everyone and to herself.

Jinye's attempt to reassure him cut through the air, echoing with implications of obstacles and uncertainties. No one could predict the duration of her recovery, or if full use of her right arm would ever be regained. As her only brother and the other half of their shared soul, he sensed the struggle beneath the surface of her calm demeanor. He prayed silently for strength—for both of them.

"I would do anything for you, Jinye. You know that," he uttered, his voice a soft pledge. His thumb caressed the back of her right hand tenderly before lifting it to cup his cheek. His eyes closed, seeking solace in the physical connection, an unspoken promise of unwavering support.

The word "impaired" hung in the air, a bitter acknowledgment of their new reality. He nodded in reluctant acceptance, the weight of secrecy settling between them. "Okay," he echoed, the vulnerability in his voice laid bare. The fear of concealing this truth from their family, especially their parents, loomed large. Yet, for their family's sake, for Jinye's sake, they had to bear this burden together.

"I will help you in any way I can. All you have to do is tell me, okay? No matter what it is, no matter how long it will take, I will help you gain that arm back," he vowed, locking eyes with her, determination and love reflected in his gaze. The unspoken understanding passed between them—this was a battle they would face together, a promise that transcended the limitations of words.

@✿ song jihoo Recognizing the turmoil that clouded her brother's eyes, Jinye felt her guilt deepen within her. Every moment that transpired to this moment was due to her own reckless decisions and impulsiveness. From her desire to help the people, wanting to find the antidote for the plague, wanting peace for all of Joseon, to prove herself worthy among the court, all of those desires led her to that raging river in the moonlit woods. It led to her injuries, to her family's pain, to the implications of her impaired arm.

With her left hand, she grazed the bandages wrapping her dominant arm, feeling the numbness of the wound beneath the fabric. She had been warned that it would take time for her arm to heal and the thought of being incapable of using her arm for a prolonged period of time sent a chill down her spine, but it was something she could not hide alone.

"Jihoo-yah," she called him. Her voice was calm yet laced with a hint of sadness.

She was afraid of the consequences in being honest with her brother, worried about what he would think of her. But she was also scared of the thought of being helpless and not being able to do anything to help her family. Yet, she was even more scared of the thought of keeping the truth from him and dealing with the repercussions of that decision if he ever found out.

But she knew that Jihoo didn't deserve to be lied to. Not after everything the siblings had been through together. She knew he deserved the truth, it was the only way their family could avoid suffering in the future because of her. It wasn't going to be easy, but she had to do it.

"Can you do me a favor, dear brother?" She asked softly. "Can you keep a secret for me?"

Jinye felt the coldness seep through her skin as she looked around the clinic room. The warm light of dusk that had been passing through the paper window was now gone, replaced by the shadows of the night. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, the cold air filling her lungs. "The physician said that it'll take time for my arm to heal, but in the meantime, it's physically impaired."

She had already considered ideas on how to get through this, such as learning how to write and do daily tasks with her other hand, or getting Muyeo to help her with the tasks she couldn't do on her own, or slowly building up strength to use her arm again which would need a lot of time. She knew that it would be a difficult journey, but she was determined to do whatever it took to get back to her full strength.

With no choice, she forced a smile. "It's not the end of the world," she wanted to convince him as well as herself. Please don't tell father and mother about this. They'll be more upset than anyone else."

@✿ song jinye Jihoo's world seemed to shatter upon receiving the urgent letter detailing his sister's attack. In a whirlwind of emotions, fear and anger propelled him to the clinic without a moment's hesitation. The news of Jinye's assault weighed on him, a heavy burden in his chest that only the sight of her seemingly tranquil form could alleviate. The irony of her serene appearance belied the trauma she had experienced. She lay there, tended by royal physicians, in a fragile slumber, awaiting the moment when she would stir from this harrowing nightmare.

Guilt gripped Jihoo with merciless claws. Every step he took, he replayed the scenarios in his mind, wondering how he could have prevented the tragedy that befell his sister. Accustomed to her strength and independence, the notion that she might fall victim to harm had not crossed his mind until now. Holding her hands, he buried his face in his hands, grappling with the weight of responsibility and regret that threatened to consume him.

Through the long night and into the next day, Jihoo maintained a vigilant presence by Jinye's bedside. The urgency to be there when she finally opened her eyes kept him rooted. The task force meeting, despite its importance, paled in comparison to the need to witness his sister's awakening. Muyeo, Jinye's handmaiden, pleaded with him to temporarily leave her side for some rest. Reluctantly, he stepped away, feeling torn between duty and the overwhelming concern for his sister's well-being. Upon his return, he caught snippets of a conversation from beyond the entrance.

"Promise me that you won't let my family know about my arm. I don’t want them to know that it may not fully recover."

His heart plummeted, the truth of Jinye's injuries hitting him like a tidal wave. Trembling, he forced the door open and beheld Jinye, now awake and conversing with Muyeo. “Song Jinye.” The hardness in his tone, a manifestation of his internal turmoil, resonated through the room and surprised himself. Kneeling beside her, he searched her eyes for any sign of deception. However, there was not a single ounce of lie hidden behind her eyes.

Desperation filled him as he clutched her right hand, yearning for reassurance amidst the rising tide of fear that threatened to engulf them both. “Please… tell me it’s not true.”

@✿ song jihoo [ nov. 22nd 1868 -- the royal clinic ]

A ray of dusk danced shadows through the paper windows. She had woken up from her unconscious state more than half a day ago, and despite the wounds she had received, she could not will herself to rest. Jinye watched from the clinic bed, her back against the wooden headframe as the shadows of the townspeople outside played like shadow puppets. Her gaze lingered on the shifting shadows, a silent observer in the midst of a town grappling with an unseen enemy. Each passing figure cast its own silhouette, a fleeting reminder of the lives entangled in the web of the spreading plague. Soon, it would be curfew, and the shadows of the people outside would be replaced by moonlight, replaced by a dreadful air of silence.

Her maid, Muyeo, had been tending to her at her side all this time. Sensing her mistress's restlessness, she spoke softly, "My Lady, perhaps you should try to rest. The night is upon us, and the physicians have done all they can for now."

Jinye's eyes shifted to her diligent maid, gratitude and weariness etched on her face. She nodded in acknowledgment; however, her body was tense, and her mind raced. She knew that sleep was not going to come easily. Her left hand reached over, grazing the bandages on her right arm. Numbness clung to her fingertips, a reminder of what she had faced in the moonlit woods and river. The bandages hid the battle scars beneath, but Jinye knew it would not be easy to keep the gravity of her injury hidden for long.

"Muyeo," she spoke, "promise me that you won't let my family know about my arm. I don’t want them to know that it may not fully recover."

The maid nodded in understanding, her eyes filled with concern. "I will do my best, my Lady."

Jinye turned her attention back to the shadows that continued their dance, but within the walls of the clinic, a different struggle played out. Her thoughts turned to her family–the worry she knew they would bear if they were to discover the true extent of her injuries. The burden of protecting them from this weighed heavily on her as the shadows seemingly closed in on the secret she wished to keep.

"It is almost time for your evening medication. I will go brew it." Muyeo excused herself as she opened the door to exit the room, but the maid's eyes widened upon an unexpected visitor. She bowed respectfully, "L-Lord Song."

Upon hearing the arrival of her brother, Jinye turned her attention to the entrance. She could sense that her maid had been quite taken aback by Jihoo's sudden presence. Jinye tried to remain calm, but her heart was pounding in her chest as she didn't expect him to be visiting so soon. "Muyeo," she called out as calmly as she could, "do your best to brew that medicine and please bring some tea to serve as well."

The maid darted her eyes back and forth between the two figures nervously; however, she acknowledged the order with a curtly bow, "y-yes, my Lady," and she went on her way, leaving the two Song siblings alone in the quiet clinic room.

Jinye could not rise out of bed to greet her brother; however, she called him over, hiding the exhaustion and turmoil in her voice. "Why are you here so soon, dear brother? I am being well taken care of here; do not worry."
✿ song jinye 6 months ago
@✿ song jihoo Jinye listened intently to her brother's recollections, her heart heavy with worry and curiosity. As he spoke, her gaze remained fixed on him, momentarily oblivious to the starry canvas of the night sky above that was a silent spectator to their conversation. If the stars could convey their thoughts, they would weep at the sorrow of the siblings' story, the tragedy of their lives, and the heavy burden of their grief. But the stars cannot speak and as silent as they are, Jinye also remained silent, not wanting to interrupt her brother as he spoke of his memories.

The fragments of his memories were like puzzle pieces, each holding a crucial part of the larger picture. However, she began to realize that the truth was a blurry picture that was difficult to grasp. She knew they needed to tread carefully to piece together the truth without shattering his fragile recollections. When he mentioned the flashes of memory from that fateful night, Jinye couldn't help but feel a mixture of concern and hope. It was a step toward understanding the truth of what had transpired, but memories are so fragile. She worried that if they pushed too hard, he would lose them forever.

As he recounted the events leading up to the assassination attempt on their dear father, she could sense the tension in his voice. It was obvious that Jihoo carried the weight of blame on his shoulders due to the event of that night. It was clear that the memory was not without its pain, but as Jihoo's recollection faltered, leaving gaps in the narrative, her worry deepened. The frustration and regret in his eyes mirrored the turbulence in her heart. It was a cruel twist of fate that robbed him of his memories just when he needed them most.

Her touch on his hand conveyed her unwavering support, a small gesture of comfort amid the shadows that enveloped them. "You were brave, Jihoo. Your instincts guided you to protect Father, even in the face of danger." Jinye promised, determination and comfort mixed in her voice, "we'll keep searching for those memories. It'll take some time, but we'll be able to put them back together, piece by piece."

His frustration over the fleeting memories was evident and Jinye's concern deepened. Jinye knew that it was not Jihoo's fault that he had lost his memories. It was a tragic event that had occurred beyond his control and even though he felt the weight of guilt, she wanted to make it clear that he was not responsible. "I understand how frustrating this must be for you," she said, "but the truth will come to light soon."

She believed that just like the night sky, his memories were coming together like stars that formed constellations. She knew the truth was waiting to be uncovered. Soon, dawn will rise and like the day her brother had awoken from his coma, it would be an incredible sight to see. The truth would surface and Jinye had faith that her brother's memories would return to him as well. With each passing moment, the darkness of the night would give way to the brightness of the day to shine upon the truth that Jihoo had been searching for.

Jinye poured them another drink, the liquid glimmering in the dim light. She passed it on to Jihoo, her movements meticulous and gentle. She maintained a brave face for her brother, declaring, "until then, before this season ends, let's make a toast." She smiled, her voice carrying the warmth of her words, "may the next season bring the truth, the future, and our family joy, happiness, and success." Jinye raised her glass in a silent toast, her expression conveying her genuine wishes through the night.

@✿ song jinye Jihoo listened intently to his sister’s words, the night enveloping them in its quiet embrace. There was a profound sense of gratitude within him for having Jinye by his side during this turbulent journey of rediscovery. The moonlight painted soft, silver across their surroundings, casting an otherworldly glow over the estate’s gardens.

Jinye’s wisdom and understanding resonated deeply with him. She was right—there were chapters of his life yet unopened, memories locked away in the recesses of his mind, waiting to be unveiled. As she gently patted his hand, a subtle gesture that spoke volumes of their bond, he felt a surge of warmth and reassurance. It was a reminder that he was not walking this path alone, that he had family who stood steadfast beside him.

After a brief moment of silence, Jihoo's voice carried a trace of thoughtful reflection as he continued to gaze at the star-studded sky, its vastness seemingly echoing the depths of his memories. "Jinye," he began, his tone a mixture of anticipation and uncertainty, "I've started having these... fragments, these flashes of memory about that night."

He recounted the scene as it played out in his mind's eye, the moonlight casting long shadows that danced with his words. "I remember I was on my way to Father's chambers to seek advice on a pending policy. The atmosphere was tense that night, and I felt the weight of that decision on my shoulders."

His eyes held a distant, haunted look as he continued, "I saw a shadow in the distance, and then... the moment when Father raised that teacup to his lips. It was like an instinct, something in my gut telling me that something was terribly wrong. Without hesitation, I raised my voice, shouting for the guards and warning Father."

Jihoo paused briefly, reliving the tension of that moment. It was the first time he had spoken of the event and it did not make it any easier for him. “He dropped the cup and I pursued the assassin, but..." His voice trailed off, his memory clouded by pain and confusion. "The next thing I knew, I was on the floor, in pain and bleeding from my side, and then nothing.”

His gaze returned to his sister, his eyes filled with a mixture of regret and frustration. "I still can't clearly remember what the assassin looked like or anything that could tell me who he was working for. It's like trying to grasp smoke; the memories slip away as soon as they appear."

@✿ song jihoo [h] Although the night was dark, Jinye felt that it was calming and peaceful. The estate was illuminated by moonlight, casting an ethereal glow in the gardens. She could hear the sounds of crickets chirping in the nearby fields, and a gentle breeze rustling the branches of the trees.

Jihoo's voice was calm as he began to tell the fleeting memories of their childhood. Jinye felt like she was seeing a movie, with the colors slightly off in her mind, like old, faded polaroid photographs. She could see herself in her childhood and Jihoo running around the estate, playing in the gardens and exploring nearby fields. She could hear their laughter clearly in her head. It was like time had stopped and they had never aged. They were back to being those two children playing a game of hide and seek in the garden.

It felt like she was in a dream, and that she had found the part of her that had been missing for so long. She knew that Jihoo was the only person who would understand her, the only one who had seen her true self. The night seemed to be still and quiet, like the world had stopped spinning and they suddenly had all the time in the world. It was as if the childhood version of them had finally found each other after years of running from one another.

Yet, she knew that there were still so many memories for Jihoo to uncover, and so much of the past had yet to be told. She could feel the secrets still hidden in the darkness of the night, and knew that only time could tell what was destined to be revealed. She worried about how the memories would affect him later, and whether he would be able to cope with the truth of his forgotten past.

She patted his hand gently, a gentle reminder that he was not alone. "Jihoo-ya, our family has been through a lot, but we have always stayed strong. Through the ups and downs, we supported each other and persevered. This special bond in our family will not be easily broken. We are a family and we will always be here for each other no matter what."

Jinye understood that although the past was complicated, the future could be full of joy and happiness if they chose to embrace it. She smiled as she looked up at the night sky, the twinkling stars now clear and bright. No matter what happens, the Song family will always have each other.

@✿ song jinye Jihoo's gaze remained transfixed on the sky, as though seeking answers from the vastness above. But as Jinye's words washed over him, his focus shifted, and the weight of her hand within his became his anchor, a reminder of the bonds that tethered him to the world.

The lanterns around them danced, their flames flickering, reflecting both the fragility and the enduring nature of memories. Every shadow they cast seemed to be a mimicry of his own fractured recollections – present yet elusive, discernible yet indistinct.

He turned to face Jinye, the flickering lantern light casting an ephemeral glow on his visage, illuminating the myriad of emotions swimming in the depths of his eyes. His sister's vulnerability was palpable, but so was her strength. It reminded him of their shared heritage, of the resilience that ran deep within their veins.

Her words resonated deep within him. "Jinye," he began, his voice filled with a mix of gratitude and pain, "This estate, with all its walls, has indeed been our fortress, shielding us from the tempests of the outside world." He squeezed her hand reassuringly, as though the action could bridge the chasm of lost memories between them. "And you are right. While these walls have protected us, we also draw strength from each other."

Jihoo's eyes shimmered with a blend of nostalgia and newfound clarity. "Amidst the maelstrom of fragmented memories, I have had some moments of clarity recently. Do you remember our childhood? Those summer days we spent chasing butterflies in the garden and the winter nights when we huddled together, listening to father’s tales of valor and honor?"

A tender smile played on his lips as he continued, "I've started to remember those moments. Our laughter echoing through the hallways, the pranks we played on the servants, and the way our mother would lovingly chide us. And not just us, but memories of our closest friends, allies, and those bound by oaths and loyalty to our family have begun to resurface."

His expression grew earnest, "However, much remains obscured in shadows. There are gaps, like pages torn from a book. And while I can now recall many of the faces and names of those close to us, the events leading up to that fateful night remain an enigma." A painful smile touched his lips, a testament to the internal battle he faced daily.

“The memories… they are fragmented, like a shattered mirror. I catch glimpses, fleeting moments, but never the complete picture.” His voice wavered, “Visions of a moonlit courtyard, the scent of jasmine flowers, a whisper in the night… They tease at the periphery of my mind, never quite within grasp.”

He paused, letting his words get carried away by the night breeze.. “But I hold onto hope, Jinye. Just as you found your way back to our home, to us, I believe that with time, these memories will return. And with you by my side,” his gaze deepened, locking onto hers with unwavering intensity, “I know I will piece together the fragments of our shared past.”

@✿ song jihoo [h] In the darkness above them, the stars she admired were blurred. She could still see their twinkling lights, but they were no longer distinct. A coldness ran down her face, streaks of tears that she had been holding back for so long. She could not bear to admit that the tears were fading the stars she loved away from her sight, blurring them into the dark night sky.

Yet, her brother's hand was comforting. In his presence, she was grounded, taking her eyes off the dark sky to look at the scenery around her. The garden was in full bloom, the lanterns lit up the pathway, the trees in the backyard swayed in the night's breeze, and their family home was the warmest place she could ever imagine.

She looked at Jihoo, his silhouette illuminated by the light of the lanterns with the estate walls behind him. As if trapped in her own prison, the estate walls held her captive. They trapped her in the familiarity of a life she had grown to be too familiar with and also estranged from. Like dove birds, she longed to spread her wings and fly away from the estate and be free from all the yearnings it brought.

Yet, at this moment, she suddenly had a profound epiphany. The walls that caged her in were also the walls that kept her safe and secure. Seeing Jihoo beside her beneath the blurred sky reminded her that her family was within these same walls with her. In that moment, she realized that the walls were not a prison, but a symbol of safety that kept her beloved family safe.

The sorrow that blurred her vision faded away. She could feel the warmth of her family home. This eternal refuge was her home, and this life with her beloved family was what she shouldn't lose sight of.

Jinye's hand trembled as she reached out to her brother to clasp his hand within hers. She knew that no matter what had happened in the past, whether she had journeyed across the country to find closure for her deceased lover, or whether she wielded a sword through the battlefield with war paint on her skin, her deepest wish during those four years had always been to return home to her family.

With a deep breath and a heavy weight off her shoulders, she said, "What has happened in the past now only feels like a dream. I am finally home. I wouldn't trade this for anything."

Yet, she wasn't completely at ease. She knew that Jihoo still had his own story to unravel. A large chunk of his memory was lost due to the assassination attempt a year ago. She had seen her brother struggle to remember his missing pieces. He had no recollection of the events that led to the assassination attempt. She looked at him with compassion, feeling his inner turmoil. She realized that he still had obstacles to overcome before he could find peace, but she also knew that he was not alone.

She determinedly tightened her grip on his hand and promised, "We will get through this together, Jihoo-ya. But your memories..." She paused, her voice trembling slightly. "Your memories must be your first priority. Is there anything you remember at all?"

@✿ song jinye The courtyard of the family estate had always been a place of solace for the siblings. Tonight, it served as the backdrop for a heartrending storytelling. The vast stretch of open space was adorned with meticulously pruned trees, their leaves rustling gently with the whispering wind. Various blossoms swayed, casting fleeting shadows upon the intricately patterned cobblestones below. Every stone, every leaf, every bloom was a testament to the family's storied history.

As Jinye began to unravel her tale, the night sky seemed to darken, in tune with her somber revelations. Above them, the heavens displayed a tapestry of countless stars, each shimmering diamond dot illuminating the darkness with its faint glow. A stone fountain, its edges worn down by time, trickled water rhythmically in the background, the only other sound aside from Jinye's voice. Every droplet that splashed seemed to echo the tears she'd shed throughout her tumultuous journey.

Every furrow of her brow told of challenges faced, every quiver of her lips hinted at hidden sorrows, and the glimmer in her eyes spoke volumes of lost love and longing. The night seemed to hold its breath, absorbing her pain and bearing witness to her confession. Occasionally, a falling star would streak across the night, leaving behind a trail of ephemeral light. It was as if the heavens themselves were reacting to her words, mourning her losses and celebrating her strength.

Jihoo had always known his sister to be a pillar of strength. But the pain evident in her eyes and the tremble in her voice revealed layers of emotional distress that he hadn’t imagined. He felt a rush of emotions: anger at the world for the hand it dealt his sister, guilt for not being there for her, and immense pride for her bravery. He listened intently, every word she spoke shedding light on the woman his sister had become – a warrior, both in spirit and in actuality.

"I never knew," Jihoo whispered, his voice a mixture of wonder and sorrow. "I always thought... I blamed myself, thinking that our fight was what pushed you away. And to think that you carried such a burden alone all these years."

He reached out, placing his hand over hers, providing a comforting warmth and a promise of understanding. His heart ached for the little sister he once knew and the strong woman she had become. Taking a moment, he exhaled deeply, collecting his thoughts. "Jinye," he began, his voice gentle, "It's true that we can't change the past, but we can learn from it. And if there's one thing I've learned, it's that love and family are powerful. They can heal wounds and bridge gaps. You've been through so much, faced unimaginable challenges, and still you stand here with me today. You're a testament to strength and resilience. I may not have been there to support you then, but I am here now. We're family. And together, we'll move forward."

He squeezed her hand reassuringly, his eyes searching hers for a hint of the spirited sister he once knew. "You don't have to face your demons alone anymore. You have me." The intensity of his words was evident in his gaze, a promise that he'd stand by her side through thick and thin.

@✿ song jihoo Jihoo's recovery from his year-long coma was a testament to his resilience and Jinye never doubted he would recover his memory even if it was bits and pieces at a time. She was filled with hope and optimism about what the future might bring, confident that Jihoo could achieve anything he set his mind to. With her brother at her side, she felt more courageous too, as if his courage was contagious. Seeing how he overcame such a difficult obstacle made her believe she could take on the world.

When he asked about her disappearance during those four years, she knew his intentions were to fill in that missing puzzle piece many years ago. During those years, she was cut off from the world and isolated from everyone she knew. She had to live a life of secrecy, never revealing her real identity and always on the move. When Jihoo asked about her disappearance, she knew that he wanted to understand why she had ghosted their family and what she had gone through alone. But it was not easy to tell her story, to open up and explain why she had done what she did. She had kept her secret for so long, and the thought of revealing it to him was daunting. She had done things she was not proud of. These were things that had haunted her for many years and she didn't want her family to know or worry about her reckless decision that risked her life. She knew that the truth would only bring her family heartache and pain if they found out.

But she was also aware that secrets have a way of revealing themselves and it was only a matter of time before the truth would surface. On the one hand, keeping her secret meant her family would be spared from her painful experience, but on the other hand, it was a heavy burden for her to bear on her own, and she was constantly in fear of their disappointment in hiding it from them all these years. Jinye's experience had changed her irrevocably. She had seen and done things that tested her courage and also fed her fears, both physically and emotionally. She was no longer the same girl who left home all those years ago. And she was struggling to reconcile the person she had become with the person her family still thought she was.

The air was thick with tension as she pondered the secret she had kept bottled up for so long. The thought of explaining her decisions filled her with dread. However, she knew it was something she had to do and she was ready to face the consequences of her actions, whatever they may be.

As she pours another glass, she asks her brother gently, "Jihoo-ya, do you remember what happened before I left?" She was referring to the incident that happened between them: their first fight as siblings. "I still remember it as if it were yesterday." She sighed, thinking back to that day so many years ago.

She remembered the heated argument, the tears, and the hurtful words that were said. She recalled the sadness on Jihoo's face as she stormed away and slammed the door to her chamber shut with a thunderous echo that rang through the estate. She also remembered leaving before dawn so she wouldn't have to say goodbye to him and her parents when she boarded a carriage that took her across the country. The decision to leave home so many years ago changed her life and she was still trying to make sense of it all.

"I was once very happy," her voice trembled. The tip of her fingers tightened on her glass as she tried to contain the emotions that were bubbling up inside her. She wanted to keep the tears at bay, to be brave for Jihoo who was watching her carefully, knowing that he was still struggling to understand why she had left so suddenly. Taking a deep breath, Jinye slowly exhaled and continued, her voice now steady. "I was happy because I was in love and I was in love because I was happy. I was given a beautiful dream and I wanted to give him the same thing."

Jinye sighed, the alcohol seemed to be numbing her pain, but not enough to erase her sadness. She had tried to erase all traces of her deceased betrothed from her memory, but some things still remained vivid in her mind. The sound of his voice, the snowflakes on his eyelashes, the way his eyes sparkled when he laughed. Jinye took a deep breath and closed her eyes, trying to focus on the present and not the past. She was determined to keep her memories of him close, but not allow them to consume her.

She felt a lump in as she spoke, her voice cracking with emotion. "When Lord Namgo--" she hesitated to say the name, a name that remained on the tip of her tongue after all this time. "It's true I was heavily affected by his sudden death and I left because of the darkness that had fallen over me at the time. I was not in my right mind. I needed to escape, to find the closure I never had. I needed to severe my love and longing for him and the only way I felt able to do that was to ensure he didn't leave this world with nothing to his name."

Her hands were shaking as memories of her past flooded her mind. She had left home in a rush of emotions many years ago, never looking back until now. She had taken place in a sea of a thousand soldiers, determined to find a way to make Lord Namgong's legacy live on as a way to honor his short life. "Jihoo-ya," Her voice was a hushed whisper, "I enlisted into the army during those years under his name." She steeled her heart to keep it from shaking, "and when I returned, I no longer felt like myself. Sometimes, I think I died on the battlefield many years ago and all of this is only a dream to ease my suffering; to ease the guilt I carry for leaving our family behind."

@✿ song jinye His sister's silhouette was framed by the night, the highlights in her eyes speaking of years filled with courage and intellect. He felt a smile stretch across his face when she half-jokingly said she was drinking to celebrate a rare peace in a world that rarely offered any. Jihoo chuckled at her answer, lifting his own glass to his lips. The wine was sweet and mellow, a dance of berries and aged grapes caressing his palate. "I don't disagree there, my dear sister. Sometimes we just need a good, sweet drink."

The conversation shifted to their recent accomplishment—the solving of a daunting criminal case that had confounded even the sharpest minds in the kingdom. "I'm glad we were able to do it too. I barely did anything. It was you that did an incredible job, Jinye," he said, raising his glass for another toast. The glass caught the moonlight, scattering it in radiant shards, each a testament to their shared triumph.

He knew his sister was more than capable; she had managed affairs in his stead while he was unconscious for a year, lost in a coma’s shadowy world. "I'm proud to call you my sister too, and I know that you will also continue to do better and bigger things." The liquid in the bottle was diminishing; they'd need a new one soon. It was almost symbolic of how far they'd come, a metaphor he quietly savored. He stared up at the night sky, eyes tracing constellations and lone stars, each a small enigma in a vast, inscrutable universe. It was as if the heavens themselves had laid out a map for them to follow, and yet some questions remained unanswered, just like certain stars that were faint and far.

Taking a deep, steadying breath, Jihoo knew it was time to veer into uncertain territory. "I'm starting to remember a little more every day," he said, bringing the wine glass to his lips once again. The pause was a necessary interlude, a moment for him to collect his courage. His voice quivered, barely perceptible, but there nonetheless. "Is now a good time to ask why you disappeared for four years?" His eyes met hers, finding not just the reflected starlight but also traces of a story yet untold.

@✿ song jihoo Her brother's presence came with the gentle night breeze. His silhouette against the starry night sky filled her with hope. Although he was younger than her, she felt safe knowing he would stand guard over her in any situation. She never had to worry when he was around as she knew she could take on anything with him beside her.

Jinye watched as he poured himself a glass of wine, the liquid glinting in the pale moonlight. He clinked their glasses with subtle grace before drinking it and she smiled at his response. "Of course it's sweet," she told him, raising her own glass in a silent toast, "it's my favorite fruit wine." She took a sip, savoring the sweet taste on her tongue and smiled contentedly as she felt the warmth of the night wrap around her.

Upon his question as to why she was drinking at this hour, she seemingly hummed as if she was deep in thought. She poured another round of drinks into their respective glasses, saying softly, "sometimes we need some peace in our lives." A small, subtle smile was evident on her lips as she added, "and I find that even peace can be found at the bottom of a glass."

She held her glass lightly in her hands. It was still cool to the touch despite the warmth of the night. She paused, gazing at the star-studded sky and the crescent moon in the distance. Her eyes lingered on the night sky, taking in the vastness of the stars and the dark expanse of the heavens. She felt small, yet connected to the universe, as if it was a reminder that her worries were not insurmountable. With a contented sigh she turned back to face her younger brother.

"The recent case..." she spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. "It was difficult, but I'm glad we caught the suspect, Jihoo-ya." Jinye smiled, letting the tension in her shoulders ease. "The capital feels safe again and I feel like I can finally breathe," she said softly, the weight of the past few weeks slowly lifting from her. She raised her glass in a toast, her gaze meeting her brother's with a look of determination and strength. "A toast to you," she said, her words carrying respect and sincerity, "for all that you have done and all that you will do. I am proud to call you my brother." She smiled and clinked her glass with his.

@✿ song jinye The air within Jihoo's study was dense, suffused with the lingering scent of parchment and the weight of responsibility. Piles of scrolls and parchments had grown like a sprawling labyrinth on his desk, a testament to his dual roles - one as a diligent secretary and the other as a vigilant participant in the task force's endeavors. Council matters, usually his prime concern, had been relegated to the background, almost forgotten amidst the whirlwind of investigations. Though the task of capturing the malevolent hand behind the recent spate of terror had been accomplished, the aftermath had left his desk buried beneath an avalanche of official documents. He had dedicated himself to these endeavors with steadfast diligence, his posture hunched over the desk for hours, illuminated only by the flicker of candlelight.

Outside, the world seemed to exhale in a tranquil summer night. The moon hung high in the sky, casting a silvery glow that painted everything in a mystical light. Stars dotted the obsidian canvas, glinting like distant promises. A soft breeze played with the leaves, carrying with it the gentle symphony of night insects. It was a scene of serenity, a temporary reprieve from the chaos that had consumed his days.

Jihoo emerged from his study, feeling both a sense of accomplishment and the weight of his ongoing responsibilities. The summer night embraced him, its velvety darkness a contrast to the harsh lamplight that had illuminated his work. His eyes, so accustomed to scrutinizing letters and scrolls, adjusted to the natural palette of the night. A sweep of his gaze, instinctively seeking a familiar presence, landed upon his older sister.

Jihoo navigated the distance between them, his steps muffled by the lush grass that bordered the marble pathway. Without a word, he took the seat across from her, a mirror image on this moonlit stage. A bottle of wine awaited on the table, an empty glass poised beside it. With a practiced ease, he poured the wine, a cascade of amber liquid captured by the waiting glass. The clink of glass meeting glass was a mellifluous undertone to the serene night.

He took a sip, the wine sweet on his palate, a welcome contrast to the bitter undertones of his day. Jihoo's eyes met his sister's, a silent connection that needed no words. "It's sweet—the wine," he mused, his voice carrying a trace of relaxation. His gaze lingered on her, a warm understanding passing between them. "What brought you out here to drink, Jinye?" he inquired, a hint of curiosity in his tone, the night enfolding them in its tranquil embrace.

@✿ song jihoo She's forgotten how it felt to be young again. As she stood in the garden with her head towards the stars, she remembered the feeling of being young again. She also remembered how those days seemed to be free of all the worries and responsibilities of adulthood. The warmth of moonlight shined on her skin and the gentle breeze caressed her face. Jinye watched the stars twinkle in the night sky and a peaceful calm enveloped her.

The only sound that could be heard was the gentle rustle of the wind through the trees and the faint chirping of crickets. Jinye basked in the peace and tranquility of the night and felt as if she had been transported back to the days of her youth.

She felt like a young girl again, and the garden seemed to have grown younger with her. The colors of the flowers were brighter, the birds sang louder, and the trees seemed taller. Even the stars twinkled brighter than before. Jinye felt as if time had stopped and she was suspended in this moment of perfect harmony with the garden and her both young again.

Jinye sat on the cold marble bench, feeling the chill on her skin. She ran her hand along the smooth surface of the marble table, feeling the contrast between its icy coldness and the warmth of the night air. The past few days have been heavy on her mind. It was only today that she could breathe freely since the heinous culprit had been caught. She had been on edge ever since the news of the serial murders came to light. Finally, after days of worry and distress, the culprit had been brought to justice. Jinye felt a deep sense of relief wash over her as the gravity of the situation slowly lifted from her shoulders.

She raised her glass to her lips, the sweet wine providing a comforting warmth with its taste. She felt her worries slip away with each sip and Jinye felt a deep sense of contentment as if she was finally free to enjoy her life again.

@✿ song jihoo She had always been deeply affected by her emotions even if she pretended to be aloof and distant, but this reunion brought deep feelings she kept buried to the surface. Her heart ached for her brother, who had been in his coma for the past year and awoke to stolen memories. The flickering candlelight mirrored the turbulence of her feelings as she found herself lost in the shadows, much like the mysteries that shrouded her brother's mind. She could only watch and wait, hoping that with some time and care, his memories would return.

When Jihoo turned to her, acknowledging the workload she managed in his absence, she couldn't help but feel a mix of pride and sorrow. Although she had done her best to maintain her brother's responsibilities, it also had an undeniable toll on her. She had to reenter society again, feeling the pressure to balance societal expectations, family needs, and her own trauma. She knew that she had done what she could, but the weight of the burden she had been carrying was heavy, and she could feel it in her bones. But it was her love for her family that drove her to do what she did.

As Duke Song expressed his admiration for Jinye's leadership, her eyes met her father's with a glimmer of appreciation. She cherished his words, knowing he recognized her efforts and saw pass her gender, but the melancholy remained. With a heavy heart, she thought about their mother, who had endured her brother's absence in silence. Jinye could empathize with her mother's resilience, having experienced her own share of silent struggles as she navigated her role as the family's anchor.

Perhaps she had never realized how similar she was to her mother, who had never been one to express her emotions openly, instead choosing to cope with her grief in silence. But despite her stoic exterior, Jinye and her brother could read her easily on any occasion. The subtle changes in her face, her body language, and her gestures spoke volumes about how much she hurt. The unspoken emotions in the air seemed to echo her own unexpressed feelings, adding to the somber atmosphere of the room. She knew that Jihoo could just as easily read her emotions with a single raise of her eyebrows.

Yet, Jinye still thought about the way the wind felt on her skin when she rode her horse through open plains during the four years she joined the military in secrecy, and how it brought her a sense of freedom and also the fear of not living another day. Would they understand her if she told them how much she wanted to break free? She had to keep her past a secret from them, a past that made her feel alive and on the edge of life at the same time. She didn't know if they would understand the way she felt during those four years: about how life is fleeting and yet it is also everything.

As the shadows danced on the walls, she understood that life was filled with both joys and sorrows. The shadows didn't reveal the struggles, the heartbreaks, and the pain that lay hidden beneath the surface. She realized that it was important to hold on to moments of joy, even when darkness threatened to overtake her. With her family beside her, she saw that she was not alone, and that even in the darkest of moments, there was still hope.

She hoped that their love and unity would be the guiding light to lead them through the darkness. As the candle continued to flicker, casting its enigmatic shadows, she found comfort in the shared journey they were about to embark upon; a journey that would help them rediscover their past, heal old wounds, and pave the way for a brighter future. She felt a sense of hope and assurance that, no matter what happened, their family would never lose sight of the love that bound them together.

✿ song jihoo 9 months ago
@✿ song jinye Jihoo found himself immersed in a sea of questions, an insatiable thirst for knowledge gnawing at the corners of his mind. As he sat there, surrounded by his family in the dimly lit chambers, his heart beat in anticipation, longing for the truth that had been veiled from him for so long. The candlelight flickered, casting enigmatic shadows that danced on the walls, mimicking the mysterious veil that had shrouded his past.

His eyes darted between his father and his sister, searching for the courage to voice his deepest inquiries. The air seemed to thicken with emotion, and the weight of unspoken words lingered in the air like a tangible presence. He yearned to know about his family, their struggles, and their triumphs during his absence, but the gravity of such revelations weighed heavily on his soul.

As the silence stretched on, Jihoo took a deep breath, determined to pierce the veil of uncertainty that had enveloped his memories. "Our mother and father—how have they been?" he asked, his voice laced with both trepidation and longing. The words hung in the air, heavy with unspoken emotions and uncharted territories.

His eyes met his father's, and he could see the weariness etched in the lines on his face. Duke Song, his strong and wise father, had always been a pillar of support for the family, but Jihoo couldn't help but wonder how difficult it must have been for him to bear the burden of being the sole male head of the household without his trusted second-in-command by his side.

Duke Song's gaze softened, and a mix of pride and sorrow swirled in his eyes as he spoke. "Your mother has been resilient, my son," he said, his voice carrying weight to them. "But her heart ached for you every day you were away."

The realization of his mother's silent suffering struck Jihoo like a dagger to the heart. He yearned to ease her pain, to bridge the chasm of time that had separated them, but his memories remained elusive, leaving him grappling with the void of the past.

Turning to Jinye, he could see the depth of her sacrifice and determination etched into her features. "And you, my dear sister, I must have caused you so much pain," he said, his voice laden with regret. "To bear the burden of my responsibilities as the heir, while I lay unconscious and unaware."

Jihoo could see the weight of the responsibility she carried, and he felt a mix of pride and guilt. Jinye was incredibly intelligent and capable, and he had no doubt that she was doing an incredible job, but he also knew that not everyone shared the same sentiments. The transition could not have been easy for her, and he could only imagine the challenges she had faced as a woman taking on such a significant role in a society that often favored men in positions of power..

Duke Song's eyes held a paternal warmth, his voice filled with pride and admiration for his children. "Jinye has been an exemplary leader during your absence, my son," he said, a glimmer of affection in his words. "Her wisdom and determination have guided our family through difficult times. We are truly blessed to have her as our own."

In that tender moment, the bond between father, sister, and brother grew stronger, and they found solace in each other's presence. The weight of the unknown still loomed over them, but they faced it with unity and love. Jihoo knew that the road ahead would be a challenging one, but he felt a newfound sense of strength, knowing that he had his family by his side.

As the candle's flame flickered, casting shadows that danced and swayed, Jihoo resolved to cherish each moment with his family. The journey to rediscover his past would be filled with both heartache and hope, but he was determined to face it with courage and love, knowing that his family's unwavering support would light the way.

@✿ song jihoo She had to trust their father's decision. They have been trying their best to keep his condition unknown to others all this time. Of course they should not risk it, not when he was in such a vulnerable state and the world may still seem so unpredictable. Taking the risk was out of the question as they had to protect him no matter what.

During the many moons that her brother fell into his deep sleep, it was the gentle breeze, the wilting flowers, and the cold nights that heard the words she kept in the farthest corner of her heart. They told the obscure figures on the walls about her secrets: about how terrified she was over the entire situation that led to this day. But she could not speak about it to anyone, fearing that others would see the broken child under the surface of her detached temperament she had locked away many years ago.

She dared not to falter. Not after the endless days their father spent beside Jihoo’s bedside waiting for his beloved son to regain consciousness. Not when their mother’s beautiful face, which could put the goddess of truth to shame, was crumpled with worry. Not when her brother lay there, still and silent, a victim of senseless violence and his fate unknown. How could she tell anyone about how she felt during that time of uncertainty? How could she tell anyone about the fear consuming her frigid heart? How could she explain the dark mist that seeped from the pores of her skin, day by day, making her feel completely helpless?

It was only today that the darkness did not dare to approach her. As if it had grown to fear her in return because the worries of the past year could now be tossed to the wind like dust. Jinye felt a sense of fortitude fill her body, a peacefulness that had been absent for far too long. But that feeling of peace was fleeting as she realized that the darkness was still there and hadn't gone away. She would have to face it someday, but she was determined to take it one day at a time.

Jinye sat beside her brother, not allowing a sliver of unease to be evident on her face. If it was memories he has forgotten, then it was memories she would do her best to retrieve for him. She smiled comfortingly, her voice steady and clear. "Let's find your memories together, Jihoo-ya. What is that you want to know?" she asked.

And yet, she worried that the details she drew for him would not match those he had lost. It has been a long time since her nights and days have merged into one. Her sleeplessness had rendered an unclear picture in her mind as the lovely images that once colored her world were already fading, not by chance but by choice.

@✿ song jinye Within the confines of Jihoo's chambers, the weight of their emotions hung in the air, entwined with a delicate tapestry of shaky breaths and quiet determination, punctuated only by the soft rustle of fabric that danced between the siblings. His sister’s presence, steadfast and unwavering, exuded a soothing aura that enveloped his fragile heart, drawing him closer to the comforting embrace of family ties.

“I hope so…” His voice lingered in the air, laced with a mixture of vulnerability and resolve, trembling as he fought against the weight of his forgotten memories that threatened to consume him. The tears that threatened to spill over were held at bay, a testament to the strength he found in his sister's support. Her gentle assurance, a lifeline in the tempest of his fracture past, reminded him that he was not alone. He knew, deep within the recesses of his being, that their connection transcended the boundaries of recollection, existing as an unbreakable bond etched upon the very fabric of their souls.

With utmost tenderness, Jihoo brought his free hand to rest upon the one that he was holding. Her touch, grounding and tender, kindled a flame of gratitude within him, his fingers finding solace in the gentle caress of her skin. Each carried a silent promise, a testament to the unspoken vow that they would face the trials ahead together.

Duke Song recognized the gravity of their situation, his voice resonating with authority as he intervened. “Not today.” The words, laced with a resolute determination, halted Jinye's suggestion before it could fully form. “Not yet.” With a subtle nod and a whispered exchange with their trusted advisor, his father set a different course, one that prioritized Jihoo’s gradual reintegration into his noble responsibilities. “The first thing we must do is help Jihoo rejoin society.”

Jihoo's gaze followed the exchange, understanding that their course of action needed careful consideration. The advisor, entrusted with their family's well-being, nodded in acquiescence, his steps measured as he retreated from the chamber, leaving the trio enveloped in a cocoon of familial bonds. His father’s unwavering gaze, tempered with a tender reassurance, affirmed his belief in his only son’s innate strength and resilience, instilling a flicker of determination within the young lord's heart.

With a steadfast nod, Jihoo turned his attention back to Jinye, their hands now interlaced with one another. His voice, filled with a quiet resolve, resonated in the chamber. "Little by little, Jinye. Let us not be in haste.”

@❀ roh miso [h] In the sanctum of his study, the hushed serenity was shattered by a knock. A sigh of relief mingled with the weariness in Jihoo's eyes, his parched orbs longing for respite from the sea of vacant scrolls and ink-stained pages that stretched before him. His family's advisor, Yonghoon, breached the room's threshold to bear tidings of great import. The orchestrated visit had been delayed, its significance relegated to a lower station in the hierarchy of urgencies. The duty of knowledge had been ed upon Jihoo's shoulders–a torrent of identity, responsibility, and relationships, all clamoring for their place in his fragmented memory. Yet, the puzzle remained incomplete, elusive fragments drifting like ethereal wisps through the labyrinthine corridors of his mind, taunting him with their elusiveness.

Duke Roh—the stalwart confidant of Jihoo's revered father—loomed in the tapestry of his thoughts, entangled within the displeasure of Jihoo's sister when she had first relayed the threads that bound their lives. A bitter taste settled upon his tongue, infused not only by Jinye's discontent but also by the shadowy depths within his own soul. The ties between the Song’s and Roh’s stretched through the annals of time, each thread promising to be stronger, binding them evermore. Jinye had relayed the revelation of Jihoo's betrothal to Duke Roh's only daughter. The disclosure had left him momentarily in shock. Yet, even more bewildering was Jinye's obstinate silence, remaining tight-lipped about something as significant as her younger brother’s supposed marriage. And so, Jihoo delicately shelved the information, relegating it to a corner of his mind where weightier matters resided–the duties befitting the heir of the house and the only son of the Chief State Councillor.

Within the walls of the Song estate, the tireless hands of devoted servants wove their enchantment upon the young lord. Panic yet practiced grace consumed them as they lavished more time than warranted in draping him with a jeogori of elegant nobility. In a fleeting interlude, his mother swept into the chamber, her breathless voice resonating with urgency as she announced the arrival of the Roh’s. The fevered bustle of the servants escalated. And it was within the plurality of his mother's proclamation that Jihoo sensed a lingering tremor, a shake to his core. Had Duke Song ventured forth with accompaniment? The waves of curiosity surged within him, crashing upon the shores of his anticipation. If he had harbored a semblance of nerves before, they now coiled tighter, ensnaring his senses with a newfound intensity as the prospect of finally meeting her loomed large.

Stepping into the courtyard, Jihoo found himself absently fidgeting with the sleeves of his jeogori before donning the mask of composure as he locked gazes with his father and Duke Roh. In a graceful dip of his head, formalities exchanged, but his thoughts wandered astray. Behind the towering figure of Duke Roh, stood an entourage, a crowd of expectant gazes. His eyes traversed their midst, searching, almost yearning for her.

And then, he saw her. Like an ethereal vision stepping forth from the recesses of shadow, concealed within the veil of a maidservant's guise–a phantom of Duke Roh's design, obscuring her rightful place by her father's side.

"My angel, Miso, come forth," Duke Roh beckoned, seemingly aware of Jihoo’s gaze.

His sister had neglected to mention the breathtaking beauty that graced her presence. She was like a vision surpassing the splendor of dreams. Were she and the maiden of his nocturnal musings one and the same? His eyes remained fixated on her, delving deep into hers in search for the faintest glimmer of recognition within her depths and hoping to revive dormant memories that bound them together.

@✿ song jihoo Memories. The most precious keepsake of hers is memory.

Were it not for those painted images in her head then she would have succumbed to the harsh reality around her. Every sunrise felt like a battle with the light struggling through hazy clouds to shine its rays and only managing to peek into her chambers through paper windows. The luminous intruder has been unwelcomed in every corner of her solitary room where she often comforts the ghost of a young girl whose reflection resembles her own as the apparition remains lost in these halls.

But it was this estate and the members living inside that held her together. Her mother and father sometimes pestered her about marriage once in a blue moon, but they have come to accept her decision, a decision she has held near and dear to her heart for the past twelve years. Yet, it was her dear brother who solely understood her loss: that she did not only lose a puzzle piece that had been forcefully held together with stitches to cover the hole in her heart, but that it had distorted the lovely picture she wanted to protect inside the unsmoothed cracks in the shell of her body.

Memories held her together. And now, her dearest brother has lost his own. To Jinye, it was shattering.

The memories they had as children, the conversations they had, the shared laughter and tears, the moments of joy and sorrow: these were the memories that held their family together. But now, her brother lost them all. Despite the pain of losing these precious memories, she can see the strength of her brother's spirit despite losing them. So, she also remained strong in order to support him.

Jinye found his trembling hand to be comforting, and she reassured him by gently patting it in return like a mother would to console their child. "It's alright," she says as a hundred thoughts race through her mind, "those memories: they're bound to return. I know they will."

With the family's love and support, she held onto the hopes that he could move forward and regain any resemblance to his lost past, even if just a little. Yet, she also worried that what he had forgotten would be gone forever, and feared he would never regain those memories. She had to find a way to help.

Turning her attention to their father, Jinye recalled House Song's family-related relationships with a medical household: House Roh. She wondered if they could help Jihoo with his memories.

"Father, I remember you have a friend who works for the royal family. Would it be possible for them to take a look at Jihoo?"
