@✿ jin jaeha jiyeon wants to laugh, really. she wants to laugh, and she has to bite her lower lip to keep herself from doing so. it won't do them any good if attention went their way, though she's already quite certain that eyes have already followed them the moment she stormed to his direction—after all, who in their right minds would approach someone they've already separated with so willingly? perhaps that defines her at this moment.

perhaps she has never been in her right mind ever since she's met jin jaeha.

"oh, jaeha. *my* darling jaeha. now he's *your* son, after how many years of you trying to prove that he's not yours?" there's venom lacing her voice, still trying to keep her volume low. she'd rather not let the others hear their arguments. she doesn't want whatever this is to be put on the papers the next day. "this is my family too, isn't it? they're my children too. i do not care if we've separated, jin jaeha. you do not get to decide for them alone."

jiyeon's jaw clenches, eye twitching in surprise when the man takes her hand in his hold, firm enough that she can't pull away even if she tries to. she grits her teeth, before her expression morphs into one of disbelief, this same disbelief allowing the man to tug her along with his steps. "are you insane?" she exclaims, voice a little louder than she intended. for a moment, she forgets that they're in public, that there are ears that can hear them, if they know where to listen and look. she tugs at her hand again, but the man's grip remains strong around her hand. (she wants so badly to dig her nails into his skin, though she knows that will not be enough for him to let her go.)

"perhaps we should take this somewhere more private, no?" she says, trying to regain her composure. and so, just like he demanded, she leads him by the hand he's still so stubbornly holding onto, heading towards the tent prepared for her and her family, though she supposes it'll be empty now, save for a servant or two. she finds that she's correct when they arrive, and she signals the servant to leave with a word.

"so tell me," she starts, turning to face him. "are you insane? you want me to come with you during the hunt, really?" it isn't as if she will not survive out there—her dearest father had ensured, after all, that she's well-versed in different areas, different fields, no matter how unconventional they are. but that isn't the issue here. she wants to prioritize her son's safety, of course, but she doesn't want to seem overbearing. (it is partly why she decides to pester jaeha about it instead.) "if you think i'd want to stay so close to you for that long of a time, i suggest you think again."

@❀ oh jiyeon his fist is still kept close to his lips, but the temptation to bite on it once more returns when he hears what she has to say for herself. closing his eyes and tuning her out has little to no success, her words seeping in. it not surprising, years of being her lovesick lapdog conditioned the duke to near perfection, hanging onto every word said even if it stung him more than it should have. although one of the few benefits that pain has brought him was not needing to satisfy every time he did her wrong, but that damn habit had its way of returning every once and awhile.

his teeth, jaeha feels a certain frustration in him that does not stop him from snapping, “you want be to be the villain to your story. that you don’t have to accept any blame for what you did. i don’t want to hurt MY son and i never will because i’m not you.” it is with that last sentence, he has to jam his finger in his chest, needing to emphasize how jaeyong is his, despite his doubts over the past few years. what he says does little to comfort him, still going on, “i know you’re mad i’m trying to start over, but i need to for the sake of my family. onhui is sick. jaekyung is across the sea with his family. i don’t know what jaeyong has planned for his future. i have to protect my family’s future, even if it hurts my children's feelings. i have to do the right for everyone as a whole.”

the anger is evident in his voice, but now it is laced heavy with sarcasm as he grabs jiyeon’s hand. his larger hand wraps over hers as he tugs her close to him, ensuring that he has a firm grip. he his head out to the forest nearby, “i messed up that day and i know it. however, since you care that much about him and i cannot protect him, join us. have him right next to your side. might as well handcuff you both. don’t let him interact with anyone, after all you never know what or who will get him next." already he starts to take a few steps back with her, turning his head around to see where her things are, he demands "so c’mon, show me where your things are. let’s go and get the rest of your gear ready. i’ll have songchu prepare everything else you need. that way you can protect him because i can't.”

@✿ jang ilseong "It's incredible..how much irk you can hold for one person. But hey Ilseong, be careful. The last time I hated someone, we ended up together." Hyeongwon remarked with a playful insinuation as they made their way towards the steeds, neatly lined up for the hunters' convenience. Hyeongwon had been a witness to the countless times his dear friend had vented about the elder duke over the years.

"Enough of that..do you have actual..pursuits..or conquests as of late?" Hyeongwon raises an eyebrow as he raises himself effortlessly on Haepo's saddle with precision akin to muscle memory. He's ridden his own steed countless times. Perhaps the only time he appreciated the great outdoors was on horse back. Where he did not need to traverse paths on foot. The marquess follows Ilseong's lead towards the forest, the latter would know his territory better anyway. The marquess did not hunt often, only when he is invited by his fellow inspectors did he go. But personally seeking out the hobby? Hyeongwon doesn't dare as he preferred books to bows and arrows.

So when they spot prey, he would let Ilseong take the lead, being a commander in the army he knew that Ilseong would be better at these things anyway. After about ten minutes of stalking, they dismounted their horses to pursue the prey on foot. Their footsteps were stealthy and light, generating minimal noise as they swiftly closed in on their target.

@✿ jang eundal Soo felt the weight of Eundal's gaze as he questioned her, his boldness surprising her slightly. She straightened up, meeting his eyes directly with unintentional intensity before she realized it might come off as a bit too strong. Quickly, she softened her expression and offered a small, apologetic smile.

"I apologize if I startled you," Soo said calmly, her voice steady despite the slight tension in the air. "I'm here on behalf of my agency. My name is Soo, and I've been tasked with ensuring the safety of the guests during this hunting event."

She glanced around the room, taking in the grandeur of the Jang estate before continuing. "My boss thought it prudent to have someone on hand in case any incidents arise that require investigation. We aim to ensure that everyone enjoys the event without any trouble."

Soo's gaze returned to Eundal, her expression open and sincere. "It's a pleasure to meet you, young Lord Eundal. Your family's hospitality is renowned, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to be here." She offered a polite bow before straightening up again, ready to fulfill her duties at the event.

@✿ moon hyeongwon "You think so? Hah, it's just one of my many charms," Ilseong bragged. As he was finishing checking his supplies, he raised an eyebrow at Hyeongwon's words. He knew exactly who the other was referring to, his rival of many, many years. The Duke was frankly quite surprised that man even decided to attend the hunting event, but as far as he knew, that man came because his son wanted to go hunting.

He rolled his eyes and tried to feign nonchalance, but the way his jaw visibly tensed revealed his underlying irritation. "Yes, I noticed he came today with his son. How quaint," he started off and glanced back towards the courtyard. "But I see he's spending more time bickering than with his son. Trouble in paradise remains. Truthfully, I can't imagine being anything like that man, must be a miserable existence." Ilseong shrugged a shoulder before gesturing with his head to the horses. While he didn't want to admit it, he's had a fair share of drunken rants about the other Duke, which Hyeongwon had unfortunately been subjected to sitting through. But how could he not detest the man? Liked by Father Jang, by the Dowager Duchess, even by his older half brother. He was sure deep down, his parents would've preferred Jaeha as a son over him. And that made him detestable, in Ilseong's eyes.

"Well, take your pick of one of my horses. If you want my personal recommendation, Haepo, the white one, is fast and moves the quietest. I'll be taking Mipung here," Ilseong patted the back of a dark brown horse. He checked the saddle and the saddle bags to make sure everything was secured before swinging his leg up and onto the saddle. Hunting on horseback was not his favorite method, as horses can sometimes disturb the ground too much, but he could adapt.

@✿ jang ilwoo Hyunji's eyes sparkled with anticipation at the mention of the hunt, her adventurous spirit yearning for the thrill of the chase. "Thank you, Lord Jang, but I think I'll pass on the tea," she replied with a mischievous grin, her excitement palpable. "I much prefer the excitement of the hunt to sitting pretty with tea," she added with a playful wink.

As she glanced towards the hunters preparing for the excursion, a sense of eager anticipation surged through her veins. The prospect of venturing into the forest, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the exhilaration of the hunt, filled her with a sense of exhilaration she couldn't resist.

"I'll join the hunters then," she declared with determination, her tone leaving no room for doubt. "A horse would be much appreciated," she continued, grateful for Ilwoo's offer of assistance. "And perhaps a bow and arrow if you have one to spare," she added with a hopeful smile.

@✿ jang ilseong Laughter escapes the marquess' lips from the duke's quip. He jabs at the latter lightly
"Truly the funniest duke in Joseon.." Hyeongwon comments as they continued building the tent, well Ilseong did the bulk of the work. Despite what the latter might think, he takes mental notes of where what went so he can probably put that knowledge to use later. He does not know in what circumstance he would need the knowledge of building a tent but it certainly is valuable knowledge nonetheless. Perhaps in another war? Though he prayed that such a thing never occurs again. Having barely survived the past war.

He listens to Ilseong and picks his bows and arrows up. Archery was not his favorite discipline. Having mastered swordsmanship and knives easier, he would always preferred those so he also picks up his daggers. Hyeongwon wrinkles his nose at the elder's jest. "You know men gossip too... come to think of it. I think I saw a certain duke in passing earlier." Hyeongwon raises an eyebrow, he did not need to utter a name for Ilseong would have already knew who he was talking about. The object of Ilseong's long rants.

"My delicate feet are just fine thank you very much. But I would like to go on horseback. It's been a while since I've ridden out." He lies, knowing full well he had taken his horse to travel from Hanseong to Seongnam just a month ago.

@✿ oh bitna The marquess’ brows would furrow at how uncharacteristically sweet Bitna sounded when she spoke about her engagement. Sejin knew that it was arranged, and he also disapproved of the man that his sister was now unfortunately engaged to. Having voiced his disapproval multiple times now would not change the fact that he was still a good match to his sister. If she had any feelings for him at all, Sejin would begrudgingly stop his blatant dislike of Marquess Seol. At least tolerate him for Bitna’s sake. He almost asks if something was wrong, but he did not want to risk ruining her mood. Afterall, she deserved some reprieve from her stifling life in
Hanseong so he would postpone the questioning.

Perhaps when they come back to Hanseong.
When it was her turn to question him, he finds polishing his dagger suddenly so interesting. He refuses to meet her gaze. Knowing that she could read him just as he easily read her. His voice doesn’t falter, and his expression remains stoic. Having perfected concealing his emotions.

“I’m certain…well are you not supposed to gossip with the ladies inside? Don’t tell me you prefer gossiping with me?” He tries to shift the topic but she persists.

“I’m not lying Bitna. I swear.” They’re such bad liars. Though he felt at ease, having casual conversations like this with his sister. It’s been a while since they were in such a formal setting. Unlike the unfortunate family dinner that happened months ago.

“And I would prefer it if my dear sister does not get lost on her way back because she insisted on going off alone.”
Sejin sheathes the dagger when he’s finished polishing it before handing it to Bitna, a slight gleam in his eyes as he says “If some lady gives you a hard time, or spoils you fun. Well you know how to use a dagger yeah?”

“Of course Bitna, I will always have your back. So I hope you confide more in me.” His gaze softens. At his core, Sejin truly only wanted what was best for his siblings.

@❀ kim hyunji Concern flickered in her eyes as she regarded him, prompting her to inquire softly about his well-being. Ilwoo pushed away her worries with a bright smile. "All is fine, now that you are here! I almost got bored to death with all these political greetings," he joked, his words meant to lighten the mood and dispel any lingering concerns.

Hyunji's excitement bubbled forth as she shared her news about the reduced for their forest excursion. Ilwoo chuckled at her playful grin, his own spirits lifting at her infectious enthusiasm. "Should I be glad that I don't have to explain to Lord Kim why I'm friends with his daughter then?" Ilwoo quipped, joining in the jest.

He gestured towards the men preparing for the hunt, signaling the imminent start of the excursion. "I believe the hunt will start soon," he remarked, his gaze drifting towards the hunters assembling their gear. "I could lend you a horse or any gear you require," he offered graciously, eager to ensure that Hyunji felt comfortable and prepared for the hunt ahead. “But if you want to join the ladies at tea..." He gestured to the other side of the courtyard of the Jang Estate, knowing Hyunji was never one to choose tea over a good hunt.

She had a bad habit of appearing whenever he mentioned her.

"Who are you?" Eundal boldly asks, arms crossing. Normally he wouldn't dare be so forward, but they were in his home. "I don't think we have met before. I'm Jang Eundal. the youngest member of the Jang family." Eundal glances around before turning his gaze back on the other. "You shouldn't wander freely. @✿ moon hyeongwon Despite their similarities in tastes regarding fashion and other fine things, one way the two majorly differed was when it came to the outdoors. Ilseong found the outdoors relaxing, many of his favorite activities involved being out in nature. But he knew his good friend was a bit of a spoiled indoorsy type. He continued laughing as he began helping out, showing Hyeongwon some tips that he had learned while out in the field. Although, he had a feeling his friend would have no use for such advice, but perhaps he would someday.

"My father used to say, any man that's a worthy leader should be able to do on his own," Ilseong recalled. "Or something to that effect, we didn't talk much anyway."

Once the tent was set up, Ilseong took a step back to appreciate their (mostly his) handiwork. It wasn't perfect, but it would last the one night that was required. And it didn't take too much of their time either. "Yeah, let's get our things and head out. I'm sure the ladies are enjoying tea and snacks, talking up a storm about.... marriages, pregnancies, who's been caught kissing who. The usual," the Duke nodded. He checked to make sure he had his arrows and quiver, a hunting knife, and whistled for Uloe to come down from his spot on a nearby branch and onto his extended forearm.

"Do you want to take the horses? I know your delicate feet must hurt already," he snickered.

@✿ oh sejin Disappointed indeed, Bitna crossed her arms and heaved a heavy sigh. Leave it to Sejin to keep her on her toes, especially when he can definitely sense her mischief.

She was definitely up to something. And he knew it.

“Well,” Bitna spoke in a casual tone and dropped her arms back down to her sides, turning back towards her tent where she was planning to go back into to avoid the crowd of gossiping women.

The mere mentioned of her betrothed puts her in an unsettling mood, and she didn’t know how to go about it either. Sejin knew little about her relation with Marquess Seol but only what is known by the rest of the world. If she falters, he would definitely sense her unease and question her about it.

Bitna turned to her side once more, wearing a small smile in the presence of her dearest orabeoni, Lady Oh had decided to not allow her estranged engagement cloud this event, and she most certainly didn’t wish to worry Sejin before he joined the hunt either.

“Of course orabeoni, I wouldn’t root for anyone else but my dearest fiance, once we’re through here, I will find the time to converse with him and give Lord Seol my best wishes.” Lying through her teeth, Bitna attempted to maintain her composure. Sejin was no fool and she must pretend with confidence or else he’d truly question her about it. As her closest sibling Sejin knew her better than anyone else.

“Are you certain you’re telling me the truth, orabeoni?” Bitna questioned, switching the situation around on him, as she tilted her head slightly.

“As an eligible bachelor, you must not lie to me, Sejin!” The Marchioness pointed a finger directly at her brother, while every movement she made the fine silk fabric of her hanbok followed along.

“I do wish to join the hunt, however your guess is right, I would certainly go off on my own, so it is best I sit still and look beautiful for the eyes.” Lady Oh chuckled softly, stretching upwards and standing on the tips of her toes to nearly reach eye level with her dear brother.

“Thank you, for always looking out for me, orabeoni. I know I can count on you.” Delighted, the Marchioness gently pinched her older brother’s cheek. Touched by his infinite care.
❀ choi jinseok 5 days ago
@❀ choi shin Oh, he knew that look. He had felt it creeping up on his own features one too many times, in these past year and even more so these past couple of months. The distant look in a man's eyes that betrayed the fact that he was looking somewhere beyond the sight of the physical eye, mind wandering and heart yearning. Jinseok had felt that trembling inside his own chest often enough to know that there was no use in questioning his brother, right now. Sometimes, it was better to just simmer in that mutual understanding without saying it out loud. They had always been good at that, after all. It was their own form of kinship.

With a gasp, he let his brother pull him into a headlock, barely struggling as he went almost completely limp in the other man's hold, silently grumbling about his clothes getting wrinkled and his collar choking him, yet his words held little to no heat behind them, no matter if they were spoken through gritted teeth.

"Don't let him hear that or he'll have the both of us whipped", he complained, the pout on his lips turning him years younger than he actually was as he smoothed out his hair and clothing, snorting at his brother's words. "Not really? You know I don't care about hunting. But I do miss our mountain. I miss the woods there and the quiet. The capital is so... loud. And so damn nosy. Don't you feel like everybody is watching you, sometimes? It's unsettling. Listen, really, you can best me and I'd say thank you. I just want to enjoy the quiet of the forest for a little bit. And this is the /perfect/ excuse to just disappear and take a nap under a tree."

@✿ jang eundal “Oh! I apologize that your family can be a little.. hard to understand at first.” Smiling shyly, the marquess prevented the grimace from crossing his face, though he still felt pity for him. His family was far from peachy, considering he had multiple mothers on his side as well. As they distanced themselves from Dowager Countess Jang, however, Sangwook observed his friend visibly relaxing, as if he held onto these burdens for a while. In a way, he was right. People in the ton tend to be nosy, even with the mundane.

His voice returned to his normal volume as well, and not the peculiar hushed whispers they relented to. “We should be okay now! But you’re not going to the military either?” Relief swelled in his chest, as most of his friends either saw him less or abandoned him completely when they went. Although it is hard to not be swayed by the authoritative command from the Royal Army, Sangwook had a valid excuse to not participate.

As the taller man withdrew his grip from him, he stepped back to give him space as he beckoned him to the pagoda. Trailing closely behind him, he let Eundal take the lead towards their destination. Eundal walked in long strides, while he struggled with keeping the pace with his cane. Whilst strolling, he admired the neatly trimmed foliage, flowers arranged in a perfect array before taking the seat next to his friend, who was more than patient enough with his predicament.

Regarding the joviality emanated from the other, the marquess beamed at him before breaking into laughter. “Look, I would be excited to see myself too! But you should also give me some cooking lessons too. I need my future wife to appreciate my hearty meals in the future.”

@❀ choi jinseok Brotherhood meant everything to Shin, their relationship was the closest thing Shin had to be able to truly understand what being a family could possibly be about, and as he gazed upon his dearest little brother’s smile it brought him absolute joy. He couldn’t be prouder of the young man his brother has grown up to be. Jinseok may be completely oblivious to this fact, but Shin was actually the one who looked up to him with admiration. Against their father’s will, whether he had been mistreated by the elder or not, Jinseok chosed his own path despite the circumstances. At least, from Shin’s point of view, that took courage. And he ought to do the same one day.

“Is that so?” Shin’s left brow arched up out of pure curiosity and he took the pleasure for himself to make comfortable next to Jinseok.

“Glad to know my brother is full of so many capabilities. I must admit, I am a little jealous.” Lord Choi casually places a hand over his heart as he winces in fake pain upon his brother’s bold affirmation. Shin couldn’t help but laugh at his own nonsense. Something about being able to be just himself with someone he trusted more than anything felt good. And his smile has never looked more real than it does now.
“Me? Projecting my own needs?” Shin looked almost dumbstruck per Jinseok’s statement. The older lad took this moment to question himself if what his brother said were true. But deep within, what woman could he hope to impress other than the one he kept hidden in his heart? The Lord chuckled lightly and shook off the thought of the woman he had pictured, dressed in her delicate lilac hanbok with raven colored eyes. He silently clears his throat, as he then shrugged off the thought and swiftly throws an arm over Jinseok’s shoulders and pulls him towards him, locking the younger male in grasp.

“I do not care about our father's sense of approval, don’t be ridiculous!” Shin laughed light-heartedly as he ruffled Jinseok’s hair underneath his fingertips.

“So,” bringing the younger lad close, Shin whispers, “do you think you could outbeat hyung in this event?”

@✿ jin jaeha anger paints over jaeha's visage. it ought to scare jiyeon a little bit, really, when sometimes the anger in jaeha's eyes begins to resemble what she would often see from a man who was no present—the image is forever engraved in her mind, haunting her even when he's dead, and she wishes nothing more than to cut the skin from his face, if only to make herself forget.

but perhaps she has gotten used to it, the look of hostility on her former husband's eyes—she remembers being caught off guard by it the first time, when she's all too used to the hopeless, lovestruck fool he's played so well for her. or perhaps she has simply forgotten fear at this point of her life.

(but if she no longer fears, then why does she tremble? why does she tremble with a knife in her hands?)

she doesn't take a step back when he steps closer, watching. her hand twitches at his word, the urge to raise it suddenly coming in a strong wave. 'as if you don't do that already with our youngest,' he says, and she feels her temper flaring even more, the idea that she is *anything* like *them* making her want to lash out— "i've never hated onhui, jaeha. i've never detested any of our children even when i detested *you."*

her hand feels empty without the blade.

it is a struggle now, to keep her voice even. quiet. his voice rises every now and then, and for a moment, she's tempted to rile him even more, to let the world know of how he talks now. she knows they will garner attention—she knows they already do. just their presence in the same place is enough to catch the eyes of those around them. but a part of her wants to scream, wants to yell, because how *dare* he tell her about what she feels about their children? how dare he tell her how to raise the children *she* birthed herself?

"oh, my problem? is it *my* problem now to worry about the safety of my son?" she says in disbelief, unable to stop herself from rolling her eyes. "of course my priority is his safety! he's my son. it isn't as if i can just easily replace him like you're so eager on doing. i love him, and that's why i worry."

yet, as jiyeon has her way with the dagger, jaeha plays along. he crooks his head while she positions the weapon at his throat, watching how she handles it. for a moment he looks almost impressed, but it turns to one of amusement once he catches her trembling. jaeha closes the gap between them again with a step, this time it is his turn to have the blade push into him. his hand rests on top of hers as he taunts, “jiyeon, jiyeon, jiyeon. i know you’re confident, but don’t mistaken arrogance and foolishness for it. the world doesn’t revolve around you. perhaps, it’s a blessing that we never had our fourth. you would probably had detested that poor child with that awful mindset of yours, as if you don’t do that already with our youngest.”

taking the blade out of her hand, he taps the bottom of her chin with it once to lift her head up slightly, “next time, don’t hesitate when if you’re going to use a weapon on me.” he ends his words off with a haughty grin before finally fastening his knife on his belt.

despite his look of confidence, she has him in a fusion of rage and pettiness that only pisses him off more, knowing she has his emotions all over the place. still he scoffs at his ex, looking off to the side before meeting his eyes with hers, “just because you hate me, that doesn’t mean i am a terrible father. do you really think i would do something to our son?" already he is close to raising his voice, happening every few words or so. however, he stops it by biting his fist and keeping quiet before he asserts, “that’s your problem, jiyeon. you only care about him, but your priorities are in the wrong place. you’re hindering him and it will ruin him. he wants to go on this trip and you cannot accept that. you cannot accept he’s not your little boy that will cling onto you.”

@❀ choi shin It was a little bit ironic, how different brothers could appear on the outside, but were so similar on the inside, never short of a witty remark, a teasing comment. Or, well, perhaps they weren't even as different as Jinseok had always thought the two of them to be, looking at the both of them now, all grown up. They had the same angular, sharp jawline, a similar eye shape. Clad in the same navy blue, the resemblance was undeniable and Jinseok couldn't help but chuckle, albeit so softly it could pass as nothing but an exhale. He watched for a moment, how his brother fed his horse, his own stallion peacefully nuzzling the grass next to Jinseok's foot, bumping him with his head from time to time, just because he could.

"I do, in fact, but not for the reasons /you/ might think of", he rolled his eyes at his brother then, but the curl of his lips was amused enough to let the other man know that he wasn't truly annoyed at the teasing. "And my confidence has never been the issue here, brother. I know my own abilities and shortcomings good enough to not need a lady to cheer for me. No matter how nice that would surely be."

He paused, giving his horse a little bit of a shove to get the black beast a /subtle/ hint to stop munching on the bottom seam of his attire.

"Or are you projecting your own needs onto me? Why are you without female company on such a nice opportunity to impress someone? I'm sure father would be elated if you finally did."

@✿ jang ilwoo As Hyunji stepped out of the palanquin, she was greeted by the familiar sight of Ilwoo waiting for her at the gate. His jest brought a smile to her lips, momentarily lifting her spirits amidst the somber atmosphere of the estate.

"Thank you, Lord Jang," Hyunji replied with a gracious nod, acknowledging his concern. "My father insisted me to have a few guards and handmaidens, given that I'm the only girl in our family. He thought it best to ensure my safety, even though he's not here with me." she explained, her tone laced with a hint of amusement. Her father's overprotectiveness was a constant source of exasperation, but she appreciated his concern nonetheless.

As she stepped closer to Ilwoo, she couldn't help but notice the tension that seemed to linger in the air around him. Concern flickered in her eyes as she regarded him, silently wondering what troubled him so deeply.

"Is everything alright, Lord Jang?" she inquired softly, her gaze searching his face for any sign of distress. Despite their brief acquaintance, she had come to see Ilwoo as a friend, and she couldn't bear to see him troubled.

But before he could respond, Hyunji's expression brightened with excitement as she remembered the purpose of her visit. "Oh, and speaking of safety, I come bearing news," she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. "Only one guard and a servant will be accompanying me in the forest so there is no need to be worried of leaving me unattended," she added with a playful grin.

Leaning in closer, she lowered her voice conspiratorially. "So, when do we start the hunting, Lord Jang?" she asked eagerly, her adventurous spirit shining through. What he was not prepared for was the fact that he not only had to sleep outdoors, but he would also have to build the tent that he would sleep in. Hyeongwon was one to try anything once in his life and this would be his first attempt in building a tent. He preferred all things scholarly so frankly, he was out of his element. Ilseong’s statement breaks him from his frustration as he throws the rope down the ground. A frown was evident in his features.

“Oh, shut up duke Jang, be a good host and help me. Why ever do we need to build our own tents anyway. So barbaric.” He mutters in distaste.

“I need more than a hand, Ilseong. I need you to build this tent for me.” He says, suddenly grinning as he waited for Ilseong to begin with helping him. It was a jest, despite his spoiled tendencies, the marquess would not allow his dear friend and the event’s host to toil in labor on his own. As soon as the duke showed him where everything went, he was able to figure out the rest on his own, albeit imperfect, with Ilseong’s help, he was able to finish preparations soon enough.

“Now we just need to make sure we bring our gear yeah? What ever do you think the ladies are up to now?” His gaze travels back to the direction of the estate where Eunbyeol was undoubtedly engaging in gossip with her two other best friends.

@✿ oh bitna As soon as he received the invitation to partake in the hunt, Sejin wasted no time to prepare for it. Guided by the countless archery books that he’s read up and practiced with over the years, he was eager to test out his skills. Though archery was not one of his many talents, he was eager to improve, and he also hoped to perhaps see a certain lady who was undoubtedly just as enthusiastic as he was about the hunt. Despite the cease in their communication ever since that fateful event.

He was even more excited to know that Bitna would be attending as well so he offers to be the one to her to Mungyeong. For the travel from Hanseong would undoubtedly be lack luster when traversed alone. Sejin makes sure that Bitna also had the equipment necessary. A set of bow an arrows, as well as daggers just for emergency.

The nature that surrounded them reminded him of his occupation as he surveyed the territory. No imminent threats, though one can never be too cautious. Especially when he was with his dear sister.

“hmm?” He responds as he awaited for Bitna to finish speaking, listening intently as he continued to secure his own gear.

“I would wager..anyone in the military would do but especially the single ones. Though there are a lot of interesting characters present.” Sejin chuckles uncharacteristically. Perhaps only his sister can manage to rouse the inner gossiper in him.

“Look at me gossiping..How about you, are you going to be watching over your dear fiancé. Or will you be looking out for someone else?” He manages to redirect the question to her.

“You know, you can join the hunt as well. But only if you stick by me. Though I suspect you would want to go off on your own. So, I suppose joining the ladies is a safer option.” He nods to his own statement. Always prioritizing his sibling’s safety above all else. They had many enemies and he liked that Bitna is where he could protect her should anything happen.

“Would you be disappointed when I tell you that no such lassie exists for your orabeoni? In fact I may only be the one without a supporter. So I will count on you in that front.” He lies, for he still hoped that the one he secretly yearned for would show. Not to cheer him on, but to perhaps also partake in the hunt.
❀ oh jiyeon 6 days ago
@✿ jin jaeha jiyeon can almost laugh at jaeha's words, but she doesn't. instead, a smile mimicking the mockery in his voice paints itself over her lips, coy in the way her lips curve. "why should i go looking for one, really, when you've already served yourself to me on a silver platter?" it is easy, for rage to rise within her, easily flowing through her veins as it tries to consume her. she can only imagine what her lover went through at this man's mercy—if there was any. her gaze hardens, jaw clenching. her voice lowers, quiet enough for only the two of them to hear, but a threat makes itself known underneath. "touch him again, and you *will* not like what i'll do to you, jin jaeha."

she holds onto the dagger pressed against her stomach, her grasp tightening. if this were unsheathed, she's certain that the blade would have dug into her skin, would've cut her skin to bleed onto the expensive fabric of her attire. the hint of controlled violence does not go unnoticed. "this family was already destroyed the moment you asked for my hand, jaeha," she says, still with a smile on her face, and there is almost a manic glint in her eyes, dancing with anger. "do not put the blame only on me for this godforsaken mess of a family you've so terribly wished for."

she pushes jaeha away with her other hand, grabbing the dagger away from his hold. "*no,* i am upset that you let him on this hunting trip knowing exactly what happened before," she says through gritted teeth, and she points the dagger at her former husband then, pressing the sheathed tip against the base of his throat. "if something happens to jaeyong—if he so much as suffers a single scratch where there shouldn't be—!" her hand is trembling, she realizes, and the dagger leaves his throat only slightly, lowering down to his chest. "how do i trust you to keep jaeyong safe, when you've already been trying to find a replacement?"
✿ jin jaeha 6 days ago
@❀ oh jiyeon a forced smile forms when he hears her refer to him by his name and it tightens more as she goes on, but it does not take long for that to end when he hears her accusation of him not considering jaeyong’s wellbeing. instead, he throws his rag to the table, finally meeting his eye with his former wife. “and here i thought, jiyeon-ah, you were here looking for a clueless nobleman to toy with and dry. perhaps, most of them caught onto your penchant for limbless soldiers. remind me again, was it a hand or a finger? i'm always happy to add another missing limb to the list,” the mockery is thick in his voice, especially as he calls her too by her name and his reference to a particular soldier.

however, the teasing is over with a switch. if looks could kill, now would be the time. his jaw tightens for a second as he shoves his dagger back into his sheath. it is with his protected blade, he presses the tip against her stomach gently, hissing at her, “don’t you dare question my ability to protect and care for our children. remember who’s the one that destroyed this family.” with that line his anger takes over once more, not even realizing how he sinks his dagger in her, “i know what happened, you don’t think i considered that? before we left for this trip, i talked to him about this. i made sure he has everything he needs, that he has protection, more than what i need. i will be by his side. unlike you, i put all of our children first before my selfish wants.”

a sudden realization comes to him, one that has him lowering his head as he snickers once again, “he didn’t tell you he would be on this hunt. that’s why you must be here. you’re upset he went to me about this and not mother dearest first.”

@✿ moon hyeongwon As the fellow hunters were setting up their tents and checking their supplies at the encampment, Ilseong took a step back to admire his work on his own tent. It went up smoothly, no thanks to the tricks he had learned in the military all those years ago. He hated his upbringing for many reasons, but he was grateful for being able to hunt, and for being able to be in the military. His love of hunting was what motivated him to hold this event. Although, he had his concerns if whether or not the party would run smoothly, he could not let those worries be known. It did bring him a sense of comfort to see the turnout; friends and acquaintances from all over had shown up. Speaking of friends... the Duke's gaze landed on his closest friend, currently tangled up in rope.

"Now, Marquess Moon, you know this isn't /that/ type of party. Get out of the ropes," he laughed as he walked up on his friend. Taking ahold on the end of the rope, Ilseong pulled on it to unravel it from around Hyeongwon's body. He then knelt down to pick up the stakes and a mallet, standing back up. "Do you need a hand, or...? Should you figure it out?"
✿ jang ilwoo 6 days ago
@❀ kim hyunji As the sun casted a warm golden hue over the sprawling grounds of the Jang estate, the preparations for the annual hunt were in full swing. Servants hurried about, setting up tables laden with an array of delicacies and refreshing drinks, ensuring that every detail was attended to for the esteemed guests who would soon arrive.

Amidst the bustling activity, Ilwoo sat on a plush couch in the grand living room, his gaze distant as he swirled the glass of wine in his hand. He had little enthusiasm for the upcoming hunt, his thoughts clouded with a sense of apprehension. Why had his brother insisted on hosting this event? Was it merely a political maneuver, a way to curry favor with the queen and bolster the family's standing?

Meanwhile, his elder brother and current head of the household, paced about with an air of anticipation, his excitement palpable as he oversaw the final preparations. His enthusiasm was infectious, but Ilwoo couldn't shake the feeling of unease gnawing at him from within. He was dreading this hunt.

Lost in his thoughts, Ilwoo was jolted from his reverie by the voice of a servant. "My Lord, Lady Kim has arrived," the servant announced, breaking the silence that had settled over the room.

Quickly rising from his seat, Ilwoo handed his half-empty wine glass to the servant and made his way to the gate to greet his friend. As Hyunji's carriage pulled into view, he couldn't help but feel a surge of relief at seeing her safe.

" Hyun- Lady Kim, I'm glad you've arrived in one piece," Ilwoo greeted her with a hint of jest, a warm smile gracing his features. Despite the turmoil swirling within him, he was determined to maintain a facade of composure for Hyunji's sake, offering her a sense of welcome amidst the chaos of the estate.

@❀ choi jinseok Shin, the oldest of the Choi brother’s, finely clothed in his favorite navy blue hunting attire with a well-sculpted bow resting along his fit figurine, the older man turned to his younger brother and wore an elegant grin before the lad.

“This event is no different from when we go out hunting ourselves, brother.” The dauntless Lord Choi made a firm and truthful declaration as he turned away to tend to his horse. The strong black animal began to nimble at the carrot Shin held before her and the investigator could not help, but simply smiled softly upon his obedient friend.

“You speak as if you have a lady in mind, Jinseok.” Once again turning in the direction of his little brother, after his horse had finished the rest of the veggestable Shin then looked up to meet Jinseok’s gaze.

“Should I seek the woman you are thinking of and ask her to join you? Maybe if she were here, it may help boost my little brother here’s confidence in this hunt.” Lord Choi gestured towards Jinseok with a teasing grin, almost feeling guilty for messing around with his little brother.

However, this was just how things were between the pair. Two brothers arm in arm till the end.

@✿ oh sejin Bitna exits the comfort of her tent to take a break away from the claustrophobic atmosphere in her personal housing. Instead of taking the pleasure of enjoying senseless gossiping with others and drinking fine winery, Bitna could not be more disappointed in the idea that she could not join the suitors in their competition of the hunting event.

There was nothing particularly difficult about wielding a bow and expertly shooting the expected target. Over the years, Lady Oh’s father Duke Jiwoon had made certain his children all excelled in their expertise in regards to the arts of military. The weapon of choice did not matter, for as long as the user knows how to wield it, they have absolutely nothing to fear.

The bow was one of Bitna’s favorite.
It is such a shame she does not get the opportunity to show her skills.

“Say Orabeoni,” Bitna turns to her side to speak with her dearest old brother, “since I must join the fellow suitress’s in a few mere moments for ridiculous conversing, which bachelor should I place my bet on to attract the attention of these gossiping women for a pleasurable entertainment?” A conniving smirk crept its way across the Marchioness' lovely visage as she gazed upon Sejin for an answer? She knew he would most likely scold her for even muttering such an absurd statement.

But Oh Bitna was bold. Although she does treasure her reputation greatly, sometimes, it does not hurt to have a little fun.

“Surely, my dearest orabeoni should be rooted on by another lovely lassie here today, I believe you do not need me to voice my support for you in this game. Father trained us well, wouldn’t you agree?”
✿ park yeongho 6 days ago
@❁ hong yeoreum yeongho was excited about this hunting event, but unfortunately for him, one of his arms was wounded by a sword with his friend. it's nothing big as yul helped him with the bandages under his hanbok, so nobody would find him actually in pain. hence, he can't join it. yul was staying by his side all the time to ensure his young lord wasn't trying to do something rash because, knowing yeongho, his young lord might suddenly grab the bows and leave him alone. that man doesn't even care about himself, even though he's hurt or not.

yeongho looked around the place in envy before he sighed. "i wish i could participate this time." yul could only smile at his young lord's remarks before he assured him, "don't worry, my lord, we can definitely go hunting when your condition gets better. i will be happy to accompany you!" yeongho rolled his eyes in a playful way. "you should just leave me alone for today, you know."

hearing that made yul laugh. "aye, my lord, don't say that. i need to tag along because of your condition, and you're being stubborn about going here." yeongho sighed, and somehow his gaze fell upon a certain lady, which took him aback.

it was her. right?

his eyes couldn't play these tricks again. that lady isn't dasom, for sure, but their resemblance is so uncanny it got yeongho's heart to skip a beat. yul followed his gaze to the certain lady and gasped. "oh my, isn't that lady hong, the acupuncturist." yeongho diverted his gaze away and cleared his throat. "i don't remember her."

lies. there's no way he could forget about the embarrassing incidents between them. yul turned to look at yeongho in disbelief. "my lord, why are you having this amnesia so early? you're only 27 years old." yeongho scoffed. "shut up. why would i remember her? so what if i'm 27? i can't forget things or something?" yul chuckled. "my lord, you're so unbelievable. maybe i'll let her remind you about herself," said yul before he made his way first towards the said lady and her female friend. yeongho hissed in annoyance. aish. this is not how he wants it to be.

yul went to lady hong and greeted her in excitement. "my lady, it's a pleasure to meet you. i came here with my lord, but it seems like he's forgotten about you. do you want to help him remember? because i genuinely think he's lying," he uttered nonchalantly. yeongho, who was not far from them, could only sigh at yul's remarks.

@❀ choi shin "It's been a while, hm?", Jinseok remarked as he gazed out across the slowly gathering crowd of nobles, absentmindedly plucking the string of the hunting bow their father had sent for him. So he wouldn't embarrass himself, the letter said. "Us, going out for a hunting trip, I mean." The smile he sent his brother was slightly crooked when he placed the bow back down, fingers lingering on the intricate designs carved into the hardened wood, polished by the hands that held it before them. For a brief moment, he wondered if the last time had been when Jinseok had still been dead-set at becoming a soldier, or if Shin had managed to needle him enough to get him out into the woods after that. He chuckled, shaking his head at his own thoughts. "One of us should have brought a lovely lady to tag along. We look kind of sad. The ladyless Choi brothers."
